Jupiter's Recovery Challenge

Recommended Posts

Hey, nerds, I'm back for the final challenge of the year (if a bit late). Had a big deadline I needed to make this month so everything just sort of blew up the last few weeks, but luckily that's over and done now. This challenge will be about recovering from deadline stress and easing back into all the habits that I let fall by the wayside. Anyway, goals:

- Track my food

- Light workouts

- Do easy, writing-related things

- Dog training

- Read

That should be plenty for now. I'm going to try to aim for every day, but even some days will work. Anyway, happy challenge and happy holidays. :)

How's it going?

Hi! :) It's going. Some things got done and some things didn't, but there's still some time left in the day. Thanks for asking. :)

Dealt with a lot of stress today, but I think that was more my own brain gremlins getting to me than anything else. Trying to work past them but it has not been fun. Anyway, stats for today:

- Track my food - Done. So many snacks. Ugh.

- Light workout - Done. I had to drag my tired butt through it, but I did 15 minutes of a fairly easy workout.

- Do easy, writing-related things - Finished reading a writing how-to book, "How to Write a Series". It was okay. I felt like the information was a little too general and not specific enough. I already knew a lot of it and I didn't get as much out of it as I was hoping. Good for beginners, though, I think.

- Dog training - Done. She did really well, remembered all the commands. Especially sit. We practiced that one a lot LOL.

- Read - Done. Just started a new fiction book, but I don't know if I like it yet.

Well, there are a couple of things. I'm writing up a book bible for my novel, which is basically just putting all my notes and details about the book in one place. I started it a few months ago but had to put it on pause for a short story and now I'm getting back to it. I need to fix a few things on the story I submitted and then create a list of other places to send it. I also have 2 other short stories that I need to polish up and start submitting. So, not necessarily writing, but writing-related.

Ah, now I understand your avatar. You are a storymancer (or novelmancer, if you prefer).

Today has been a very long day and I'm exhausted. And ready to kick some of my co-workers. But anyway. Stats for today:

- Track my food - Done. Need to order groceries and actually try to cook something. I'm sick of takeout.

- Light workout - Done. Did 15 minutes.

- Do easy, writing-related things - Done. Read through a short story that I have been neglecting. I think it's pretty decent, just need to tweak a few phrases and then it's ready to submit. I also went and ahead and got the email ready.

- Dog training - Done, sort of. I let her play with a puzzle game for a few minutes. That was about the extent of my energy.

- Read - Nope. I don't even want to read tonight, I'm that tired.

- Track my food - Done.

- Light workout - Done. I actually did some strength training today. I haven't done it in a few weeks so it was nice to finally get back to it.

- Do easy, writing-related things - Nope, too tired.

- Dog training - Done, sort of. I woke her out of a dead sleep to do a few minutes of training so she wasn't that with it, LOL. Poor baby.

- Read - Not yet. Will try to read a little before bed.

What's the book you're reading?

Black Hat, White Witch by Hailey Edwards. It's just kind of meh. I may move on to a different book instead.

Small rant below, feel free to skip:

Spoiler

Well, this week's been rough. Besides the usual work stuff, I was charged for my annual exam even though it's supposed to be covered by my insurance, and my doctor's office neglected to tell me until after the bill was overdue. They didn't even send me a bill. I just got a random email notification over a month later. I've been trying to get ahold of them all week, but I can't get ahold of anyone. They don't respond to online messages anymore, they don't return phone calls when you leave them your number, and when I called them today I was on hold for an hour before I gave up because I had to focus on work. I can't even contact my doctor's office directly anymore, it's all done through a corporate office in some other state. And this isn't the first issue I've had with them either. This doctor's office used to be so great, a nice family practice, but ever since they got bought out by some big company, they've been crap. I am so frustrated right now. Anyway, didn't do much beyond a workout for 24 minutes. And now I'm going to try to go read something, because I'm fried.

yeah you should enjoy your fiction. No shame in giving up on a book that's not enjoyable.

re: rant

That's SO frustrating!!!

I had a doctor once that would schedule me without my asking, not inform me of when the appointment was or that I even had one, and then fine me for "no-show."

That was when I knew it was time to jump ship on that office.

Are there any other doctors in your area you could switch to? I know in so many places there's basically no choice.

That's sooo their fault! Very frustrating.

Yikes, I'm with Harriet, that's not right.

I looked around a little bit but most of the doctor's offices here are owned by big companies now, which means I'll likely run into the same or similar issues. I think I may be stuck where I am.

Finally got ahold of someone at the doctor's office yesterday, who told me that the issue is an insurance thing and to call my insurance. So I called my insurance, who said the coding was wrong and kicked me back to the doctor's office, who told me that the coding is correct. Apparently, what they did was put in 2 codes. One for the annual exam, which my insurance did cover, and the other they coded as a regular office visit, because my doctor brought up some things that we had talked about at an actual "office visit" a few months ago, and this is apparently a reason to charge me extra. So basically, I have to pay. Fun times. The only bright side is that the bill is not actually overdue like the website says. They told me to ignore that, so I am.

So, nothing happened Friday. No matter. Things happened today:

- Track my food - Done.

- Light workout - Double done. I walked around 30 minutes while running errands and did an almost 30 minute workout and I survived. I'm not sure how I managed this, but I need to figure out how to duplicate it.

- Do easy, writing-related things - Done. Watched a learning webinar.

- Dog training - Done. Pup did really well. I actually got her to stay sitting for a whole 10 seconds, which is a long time for her.

- Read - Done. Tried a few different books and I wasn't happy with them, but I started reading this YA fantasy called Incendiary and I like it so far. I think it may be a winner.

Not much to report today. I was really distracted and couldn't focus enough to do much. But I did get groceries. After so many weeks of nothing but takeout, I can't tell you how happy and excited I am to have groceries. And to cook. I'm never excited to cook. The end times must be coming.

Anyway, I did things today:

- Track my food - Done.

- Light workout - Done. Did 20 minutes of yoga and tweaked my knee. I was going to try to do something else too but I may table that for tomorrow. Stupid knees.

- Do easy, writing-related things - Sort of. Was super distracted all day and only managed to watch a 30 minute learning video.

- Dog training - Nope. Too distracted. Not sure what was with me today.

- Read - Done. Read for an hour.

Nice. Yes, home cooked food is nice after lots of takeaway, which loses its charm on repeat exposure.

That's indubitably a thing!

Today was an interesting day. Someone from my doctor's office (not the operator from another state, someone at the actual office) finally responded to the message I had sent through their website. The guy said he re-coded the appointment and re-billed my insurance, so now I don't have to pay extra. Yay!

Stats for today:

- Track my food - Done. My stomach was a black hole and my brain covered in fog. No cooking today and lots of junk food.

- Light workout - Done. Did 25 minutes.

- Do easy, writing-related things - Done. Finished some light edits on another short story. I was unfocused and my brain fought me the whole time, but I think it's just about done and ready to submit.

- Dog training - Done. Did a few minutes. We're still working on "stay", especially when she is excited. She just can't contain herself and likes to go all over the place. You would think she was only 3 instead of 13.

- Read - Done. Read for 30 minutes.

Ah, how satisfying to see this fairly resolved!

Very productive despite the brain/stomach uncooperation!
