I usually have a protein shake in my normal calorie intake.  The extra hundred on lifting or running days can be anything.  If I get to the end of the day and I'm more than a hundred cals under target, I'll usually have some trail mix to make up the difference.

 

 

 

Saturday update

 

I didn't strictly track today, but I'm pretty confident that I didn't go over calories.  I did get a run in, so that was good.  The running is progressing nicely.

Sunday Update

 

I tracked calories and came in on target.  I did not exercise, but I always take Sunday off so that was normal.  Back in the saddle today!

Monday Update

 

Food was mostly good.  I did a little estimating at the end, and I might have gone slightly over, but not bad.

 

I did get a weightlifting session in the evening, so that was pretty good.

Phew, caught up.   Man, take a few days off the forums at the start of first challenge of a new year and  you miss a lot!

Glad to see you picked up some momentum!   I for SURE blew off Zero week and only used it for light calculations of future thoughts!

Tuesday Update

 

Food was good until I had an extra bagel in the evening.  So I went over calories by one bagel and cream cheese, probably 400 cals?  Not the worst thing I've ever done.  I did not manage to get a run in yesterday.  The day was just too busy and I didn't make time for it.   By the time I got to the end I was just wiped out.  So, no excuses and no regrets, it just didn't happen.  It's a lot harder this week, because I'm covering class for an instructor who is out.  I don't know if I will lift today, because I'm still covering class and that means I can't go home and lift at lunch, and after work I have to go to a church kids thing I volunteer to help with.  So it won't be until 8.30 that I'll have a chance to lift, and I don't honestly know if I'm going to want to bother with it.  But I will do my best; I'm not going to make any progress if I don't get more lifts in.  And I'd really like to keep making progress, however slow it is.

Do compromise lifts through out the day if you think you won't get to your lift tonight.

Some desk push ups / dips.   A few body weight squats or lunges on the top of the hour.    Little increments of lifts might at least make you feel as if the effort was there amidst chaos scheduling.

Saturday update

 

Food was good.  I think I can make IE work, and I'm going to do my best with it.

 

I got a run in, and also some weight lifting, so that was good.

 

This week is going to be really difficult again, because I'm covering classes again, so I can't go home and lift at lunch.  I'll just have to use my evenings, and not let a late hour be an excuse.

Monday Update

 

Food was good.  I ate well and in a reasonable fashion.

 

I got weightlifting done in the evening.  So overall a successful day.

 

 

Work stress is real.  I'm starting a new initiative to try to change the culture in my school.  Right now our students accept failure as the normal course of events, and I want to change that.  I want success to be normal, and I want students engaged in successful behaviors to be the normal mode of operation, instead of the exception.  I have some ideas about how to do this, and it has to do with shifting how instructors interact with them, the kind of language we use, and how we connect with and encourage and support our students.  It's going to be a really big job causing the kind of cultural shift that I am envisioning, but I think we can do it.  If we want to be successful as a school, we have no choice, really.  I'm struggling to find the pace of the change that I want.  I'm having to accept that it's going go at the pace it's going to go at, and if I try to force it too fast, it won't stick.  I have to pour it on and let it soak in, then stand back and wait for results.

I love this and think it will make a huge difference to your students expectations of themselves and therefore their self esteem. Good luck!

That sounds like a lovely change to make.   I hope you are able to get the buy in from instructors.  That's always key.

Good luck with the changes at work, it sounds like a really positive direction you're trying to take the place in.

I need help with something. I need a short, memorable phrase that captures the essence of "the job isn't done until you clean up after yourself and put everything away". I'm trying to develop mantras for my school to live by, and I'm a little stuck on this one. Any suggestions?

I thought of my tie-dying projects when I read this, and having done it 3x now - I can say for certainty, that patience, and care in application, make all the difference in the end result.  So I also love this analogy!   I am also so glad to see, and so supportive and grateful,  you embarking on this journey to work toward a culture shift in your school.  That's big stuff that means a lot!

Not great, not too bad.

 

I've been really busy during the times when I usually check in and update here, so that's why the long absence.  Things should be better now.

 

I've been doing okay with food, but not great.  Today is my birthday, so I'm doing whatever the F* I want with food today, and tomorrow I'll get back on my BS.

 

I've done okay with exercise; I think the only days I missed last week were Friday And Saturday, because I got my covid booster and I was all messed up and didn't feel like doing anything.  Otherwise, exercises progress as planned.

 

So overall, things are good.  Thanks for checking in everyone!
