This is me nowadays... Though not nearly that cute...

 

I feel like i have lost my capability of getting shit done. Like i lost my mojo... And if i have lost my mojo, well, where does that leave me? Cause i am that dude, that just get's shit done!

 

One part of me wants to break the cycle, by trying to kick all the ass at once, cause i thrive on accomplishments.

... The other ...

Just wants to take it slowly to not burn up right away when a little thing jams my cogs of awesomeness. Slowly adding stuff that will aid me.

 

I also have to be truthful in painting the picture. I'm not a lost cause by any means. My weight is only slowly creeping up, but it's at a certain milestone for me (83 KG).

And it's not that i have stopped doing things. Last weeks have been the most productive with regards to working out with Protegé™. I have even snuck in a run or 2.

Which could be a quite viable explanation as to why i feel hungry all the time. I just need to make sure i don't put all that bad stuff into me.

 

I am eating and drinking like a complete bastard, and it shows! I feel hungry ALL THE TIME!!! And just cannot say no to drinking a beer most days of the week. And my sweet tooth (that has always been underdeveloped) as showing up more and more. I need to get grips on it!

 

I wanted to start with one thing, next to just keep on doing what i am doing with working out. The working out department seems pretty solid, so that's not my point of focus.

The one thing i wanted to start with is simple. Only eat at meal times. No more in between snacking. The only exception to that rule will be a protein shake.

 

I want to have an escape for when things get rough. The protein shake is pretty low KCAL and generally i know i don't get enough protein anyway. Trying to be smart and creating stuff that helps me with the big picture.

 

So the specific challenge goals:

 

  • Do not eat outside the standard meal windows
    • Breakfast
    • Lunch
    • Dinner
  • Only for the irresistible urge: Protein shake
  • Dry January

Simple is good. Eating only at meal times is tricky enough, in my experience. Good luck with it! And I hope you spot some signs of your mojo so you can track it down and recapture it.

I'm sure my Mojo will come back to me, it's usually just gathering up some momentum with stuff i do. The eating part is a very tricky thing. I struggle so hard with it. That's also why i am actually looking forward to dry-january. That's "simple" just no alcohol. And i actually want to do no KCAL-drinks. So much easier than having to pick WHAT to eat. Thanx for the reply Harriet!

This has been me for the last 2-3 months. Which is why I am also doing a dry January, but playing it on hardcore - no alcohol AND no sweets. Just trying to reset my brain, lol

Yeah, the thing is. It's a fine line with going supernova, or just building momentum with awesomeness. That's a thing i struggle with. I like saying that i ran over a marathon through the week (3 runs to accomplish that) but if want to stay on my lifting a bit my body just seems to shut down or something. And, OOW BOY, all the hunger...

 

So it's a delicate game to play. Some doable guidelines will work. Like the thing with the meals and the Dry January (in which i am leaving room for a splurge here and there).

Like Puck said above here, don't set yourself up for failure. I know for me no sweets is not that big of a thing. But i know for a lot of people its hard as hell!

Not to worry, I have done long bouts without sweets before. I like to do a "reset" every January, because I tend to go a little wild in the last quarter of every year 😂 And fully cutting out things like sugar and alcohol helps me just kinda recalibrate my mind for getting back into a healthier routine. Giving up sugar isn't particularly hard for me, it just isn't fun for the first week or so, then my brain is like "ok, I remember this. We got this."

LOL at the not-actually-funny fact that hubs and I have been joking about this. Because several of our friends gave us a combination of sweets and booze for Christmas.  We've been wondering if people just like us better when we are fat and tipsy ... ?

Dry January is actually starting to seem like a heckin' good idea. I generally have one bourbon drink a day, that's ~140 calories that I don't necessarily need. Leaving room for the *occaisional* splurge also sounds quite smart

That's good to hear! I'm actually really glad to hear that, cause that gave me some confidence, remembering i did this kinda stuff regularly before and had pretty good results with it. My mind just has to click into the right setting.

I know if i set my mind to it i can do it. I know there will be some hard times. Also i'm leaving the occasional splurge open. Last year i had a hard long think about what it means for me. And having a good time enjoying a beer with some friends i see rarely for example.  Mentally outweighs the bad that is done with having a few of said beers. It's certainly gonna be a exception, but i am not gonna let this thing spoil that moment. Same goes for having a drink with my sis and BIL who i only see every few months. My BIL is a real beer fan, and it's always nice enjoying something together. But that's it.

Why do you think this is? Is it just the Christmas time splurge? Are you eating out of habit, or out of boredom? I only ask because knowing why you're eating like this might make it easier to avoid.

Boredom, stuff being readily available, social events almost solely being about food and drinking. That's why i'm feeling optimistic for January. And i want to combine dry-january into it. Trying to make january about eating for fuel, not for fun.

I burned out a bit on squatting last time cause it got too hard too fast. So now i'm super gently going up:

Session1: 3x3 reps

Session2: 3x4 reps

Session3: 3x5 reps

Session4: add 2.5 KG 3x3 reps

 

It's also the rep scheme i advised Protegé™ to use cause he is just about out of newbie gains. We are doing about 3 sessions a week, so keep on going up with 2.5 KG still means a 10 KG increase in a month...

 

Just to make progress much easier and keep on looking forward to the next session.

 

Also we are gonna mix up the bicep work with deadlifts cause the 10x10 i did last sunday showed me a lot of muscles are missing out right now (with no deadlifting).

Yeah, that's sounds familiar. I feel like you'll have no problem getting things sorted in dry January in that case.

Sounds like a solid plan. You've already well surpassed my squats - last attempt was 102.5kg x 3. I'll try and keep being your deadlift target for a while - haven't recorded deadlifts in a while, last time was 147.5kg x 5, but then last week I managed 5 reps of farmers handle picks at 164kg.

Well farmer handles does give you a much better stance. I know i did farmer walks with 80 KG (on each side) when i was deadlifting around 140...

Big part of why I love and loathe the holidays.  We had SO much rich and extravagant food at my work holiday party - and had so many leftovers... ughh...
