To Be A Hero Vol 0.5: Jedi Endures

Happy 2022 everyone - or almost anyway. Welcome to the first challenge of the year!

 

I can already tell you that I’m going to be focusing on endurance this challenge. Not the physical kind, the mental and emotional kind. During this challenge, I’ll be moving halfway across the country. Well not quite but I’ll be moving from the mediocre state of Virginia to the great state of Indiana. Pending my house selling. 

 

My husband is going to be moving.. Literally this weekend. So for most of this challenge, I’ll be living alone in my house, which is.. Not great for my mental health. So I’ll just be trying to keep up with the basics. I’m not going to throw myself into a bunch of new stuff when I’m just trying to survive. 

 

This challenge is still My Hero Academia themed, just a little bit more generically than my previous ones are. My idea is to create a character for the next challenge and be “trained” by my favorite character over the course of however many challenges the theme series sticks for. This series has been the best one for making me want to take care of myself, interestingly enough. But I’ll be doing my best for the first challenge to just keep myself functional.

 

I’ve been doing fairly well recently, last I checked I was down about 10lbs total, and I’m down a pants size. I’d like to just continue maintenance-y, but also I’d like to get back into the habit of doing a form of workout. If possible - my ankle seems to be misbehaving right now.

But here are my challenge goals:

 

Drink Water

In winter, I’m really bad about drinking water because all I want is coffee and tea; warm beverages. But I want to drink at least a liter of water a day, preferably two. That’s about right for me as far as I’ve been able to tell. 

 

One point per liter of water.

Work Out

I haven’t been working out enough. I need to keep moving. It helps my mental health as well as my physical health. Plus, I can use that time to hang out with my best friend virtually as we play beatsaber together. The goal is twice a week.

Track Food

My food intake has been.. Shady. I need to do better. So I’ll keep tracking what I’m eating and keep moving forward. I probably need to eat more but I need it to be healthy stuff. No more days where all I consume is coffee and a plate of chicken strips. Bad Jedi.

Stretch

Still want to work on flexibility, even though I’ve seen sooooo much improvement. I’ve found a few places where I’m pretty stiff so I want to work on those, as well as keep my flexibility that I’ve gained. If I stop stretching, it all goes away. My goal is 5-7 times per week.

 

One point per stretching session.

Ankle PT

Still struggling with my ankle. If I skip my exercises for a few days, it will start misbehaving. I am getting new health insurance soon, so once I’m settled in with my move I’m going to be going to talk to a doctor about the whole thing and trying to get it fixed, but in the meantime I need to do my daily PT that my cousin gave me. Goal here is also 5-7 days each week.

 

One point per PT session.

Pushups & Planking

I’ve been seeing a lot of improvement here as well. My core workout is now planks rather than situps, and my length of time that I can plank has increased significantly. I also can do pushups from a lower elevation, and I’m slowly building up the strength needed to do my first real pushup. It actually could be something I achieve this year if I work on it! Goal here is 5-7 days each week.

 

One point per exercise session.

Whelp, there’s my maintenance challenge. It looks like a lot, but it’s almost all things I’m already doing or just want to get back into the habit of. Wish me luck this month!

Oh wow you are moving!!!  Oh wow that is BIG STUFF!  How do you feel about it, especially going to a whole new place?  Moving is always so stressful to me, especially with a house sale in the mix…

yeah, it's.. it's huge. A 10 hour drive from one place to another. 

 

I feel.. a lot of ways. I'm excited, because my best friend lives near there. Her family loves Mr. Right and I, so we're not starting without community. But on the other hand, I'm a creature of habit and routine. The changeup is going to be hard, I know. And the actual moving process has been obnoxious thus far because we're doing some downsizing. I'm having to be brutal with our furniture and just random crap that we'd acquired over the 2k sqft we have presently.  

 

Thank you!! ❤️❤️ I'm definitely just ready for the process to be over. The hardest part was telling my parents, honestly. And they took it well so I'm looking to getting the actual moving done.

I COOKED DINNER LAST NIGHT.

 

Not much, just a taco casserole thing but there were MULTIPLE VEGETABLES. 

 

And I did a single workout. Not much but I did my pushups. It was better than nothing and a START ❤️

Happy Day 1 of the challenge, I guess.

 

Today is a Hard Day.

 

After what basically amounted to a 2 hour nap, I drove my husband to the airport and dropped him off to go start his new job tomorrow in Indianapolis. I managed to get home but once I did I sat in my driveway for 15 minutes and cried. Then I went back inside and curled up in my too large bed under my weighted blanket and cried myself to sleep. 

 

Like I said, a Hard Day.

 

My best friend and frequent support is who my husband is staying with (they're friends as well) and they're hanging out (which is a good thing, don't get me wrong) and I'm feeling particularly lonely and sad today. I'm trying to combat that feeling by hardcore controlling life. On the up side, I've done several items on my to-do list and am wearing actual pants today. On the down side, I've somewhat run out of things to do and I'm starving because there's no food in my house.  Currently, I'm sitting on my couch listening to sad music and drinking coffee. I may call my mom to see how she's doing and just so I'm not sitting here in mostly silence with my own thoughts echoing in my head. Not a good place to be. 

 

But we'll see. 

 

Given the day, I don't plan on working out today. I'm exhausted both mentally and physically, so I'm just going to focus on my stretching and my basics. And just otherwise get my shit together for the week. 

 

I'm hoping that I can use this opportunity to shift my sleep schedule a little bit; as well as my work schedule. My goal is to work 9:30-4 every day with time between 9 and 9:30 for study as well as the time between 4 and 4:30 for studying too. That means I have some actual time in the evenings that I can use to leave my house, pack, work out, or just do whatever else I'm going to do. 

 

Well that's my life right now. Hope everyone has a better day ❤️

I am so so so sorry to hear today is Hard. I can't even imagine the mix of emotions you are dealing with.  But as sucky as they are they are all completely normal, and it will be okay.

 

HEY I am also wearing actual pants today!!  AND I washed my hair!!  Duuuude we GOT this thing! :D ❤️

There were a lot of emotions for sure. I'm feeling better today though, even though my ability to sleep is very low RN.

So... it's snowing. Very large snowing. Fun fact, I was never taught to drive in this mess so I'm stuck at home for a bit. It's very pretty at least though. 

 

Husband's first day of work has been today and so far he seems happy. I'm feeling productive today, and trying really hard to not get super anxious about work. It's a new year; all I can do is my best.

Oh I love the big flakes 😊 driving isn’t too bad if you have AWD. Snow is one time I don’t miss my van that was FWD haha. They are 2 different ball games haha.  Especially if you don’t have snow tires and you have a FWD. 
 

The basics are in case you ever need to drive in it…. Drive a bit slower and go slower/more carefully around turns or curves. Start to stop  sooner and if you start to skid or slide don’t hammer your brakes just give them small light pumps until you get some traction.  When you accelerate at a light or stop sign just ease off the brake and lightly move forward with light pressure on the gas until you know you have traction. And if you are fish tailing then foot off the gas and steer in the direction of your car butt until you get traction and move forward.  Be extra looky in intersections to make sure everyone can stop before you continue through.  And if you have FWD car then avoid super steep hills until you know they are salted lol😬 but the main thing is if you don’t feel comfortable then don’t go out if you don’t have to.

So I've got a VW jetta and FWD... 

 

I grew up in a ding dang swamp with no snow. First time I saw more than like 3 inches of snow at one time was when I was like 16.  The highs are over freezing every day this week, and a lot of the stuff has melted off the roads. Unfortunately, I live LITERALLY on the side of a mountain so it's a bit of a struggle to get anywhere. I don't need to go anywhere until tomorrow though, I have a meeting tomorrow afternoon so I have plenty of time to get myself out of the mountains and into town. Honestly, I shouldn't have more than like one non salted road to deal with. I live very close to where they store the local salt/sand trucks and they have to get the buggers out so... yeah. By tomorrow I should be okay. Fingers crossed!

I was going to work out yesterday but my internet wasn't cooperating so beatsaber was a no. I'm going to have to fiddle with the playstation when I get a minute today; something about my license for my copy of the game?? I think it's because I brought my stuff to my parents house a while back and set beatsaber up on my brother's PS4 so I could play with them.

Be safe and take that extra time you need just in case! :) You got this. My friend has a VW Jetta and she was fine in the snow but she did have winter tires I believe.

I actually ate yesterday which is nice. It was a rough day yesterday though. I really tried, but most of the day I felt like I was walking through wet cement. Today hasn't started very differently if we're being honest. But we'll see.

Haha I don't measure very closely at this point so that's the best I can do xD

Week one was... okay. It went well initially and then fell off. Friday was an entire emotional nightmare and I've been trying to recover. I even took a day off work Friday it was so bad. So... it really do be like that. 

 

I'm just taking life a day at a time right now, and just doing my best. I'll keep pushing and doing what I can. I want to get as much packing done as possible this week.

 

I need to get my food situation a little better but that's... a moderately small issue right now considering.

I've found that a larger water bottle helps me. Less to keep track of :)

Well, happy monday? Yesterday was a pretty good day, and productive to boot. It was nice to feel like I had my shit together. I packed up a bunch of stuff and also finished sorting through my kitchen. 

 

Today I'm hoping to get most of my office packed up (aside from what I need of course) and I have soup in my crock pot. At lunch today I plan to start a loaf of crusty bread to have with my soup. 

 

Yesterday's food log

mac n skillet with bacon

2 frozen cheeseburgers

a bag of grandma utz chips

4 cupcakes

 

Yesterday was a day, clearly, as far as food is concerned. Today will be better
