Some are old, some are new (or new versions of old things). Search and Rescue training covers a variety of topics: navigation, survival skills, search techniques, rescue equipment, etc. Most of that was covered in the basic training when I joined the unit, but we occasionally have refresher courses to practice our skills or learn more specific or advanced skills like snow skills, rigging (rope rescue), or how to use metal detectors. The rigging training is the most likely to come up during this challenge because we have a regularly scheduled evening practice session. I've only tried it once a few years ago but remember it being exciting to find anything at all. Now that my kid is bigger, it might be fun to try again. He's really into camping and hiking so adding another outdoors activity would be great, but he's also still young enough that he loves the type of little trinkets people leave. Thanks for the idea! Workouts: Did good on the NF workouts. I'm a little worried that the jump rope was what caused my foot to be sore later. I'll have to take things slow there. Readings: Pretty good. Clean Counter: It's nice having only the day's dishes to do. Clean/Put Away/Repair: Got a couple of good things done. Need to keep up the work. Brush Teeth: Still needs some work. Adventures: The beach didn't really feel like an adventure because my church went there to do a blessing of the waters. I was only going to count it as half an adventure, but then we got a late evening SAR call, so I'm going to call it good for this week. I need to do better, though, because I can't count on last minute SAR calls to check this box. I think I'm going to add some stretching going forward. The window was acting weird on the way down and got stuck, so I had to drive home with it a few inches open. Less than ideal, but at least it wasn't raining. I took apart the door when I got home and the problem was pretty obvious: the window had come out of the bracket on its bottom edge. However, getting the window back into the bracket was not so easy. I didn't think I'd be able to do it, but eventually worked it out. I'm not sure the window will go up and down smoothly, so it's probably not entirely fixed, but at least it's in the closed position now. I can live with that, especially in winter. I didn't create a lot of dishes, so the counter is pretty clean. I opted not to wash them today because I sliced my finger on something sharp (small cut, not serious) while fixing the window and didn't want to get the band aid wet for like one dish and a couple of utensils. My experience with aging vehicles is that once the windows don't work right, they have to be left in position or else. Seeing your struggles with getting out the door in the morning makes me glad I can work from home. When I bought the truck, that window didn't work because the gear that connects to the handle that rolls the window up and down was stripped. Last summer, I decided to repair it and put in a new part (youtube was very helpful) and the window went up and down, but it wasn't smooth. I didn't worry about it too much because I rarely have passengers, so that window doesn't get used much anyway. And then the window came out of the bracket this week when I tried to roll it down, so clearly I didn't fix it as well as I should have. And living alone, it's not good for me to sit at home all day and evening by myself. Even if I don't see anyone in the office, it's healthier for me work there. Nobody at work has complained about my start times (if they even notice), but if I start late, I have to stay late as well and I don't like the way things have been trending later. I always seem to forget that I need to wear my knee wraps to remind my knee cap to stay where it's supposed to so my knees stop hurting. My drain pipes are clogged and it's not the easy, if slightly gross, fix of a clog at the inlet baffle in the septic tank. My pipes don't have much slope on them, so they clog up every year or two, but after the plumber showed me the clog at the septic tank the first time, I was able to fix it on my own because the only tool required was a stick for poking icky things. This clog is somewhere in the pipe and fixing it is going to take tools that I don't have, so I will need to call the plumber. And until then, I'll have to use as little water as possible. Well, I can use all the water I want, I just can't put it down the drain. I just did laundry and I have enough clean dishes to last a few days. And while not having a functional toilet is a bit annoying, I live alone (I shudder thinking about having this problem with like 5 people in the house) and learned how to climb glaciers last year which includes having a dedicated container for taking care of #1 without leaving the tent and blue bags for #2 (although I'm hoping it won't come to that and I can just use the toilets at work).
