Klutch
Hail Friends, I let the last 6ish months really kick my butt. So, here I am, trying to build some momentum, in the hopes that maybe I can do some of the butt kicking down the line. Still working on dialing in my Big Why, but part of it includes building strength and flexibility so I can maintain mobility as I get older. I see family members and people in my community as young as 50 struggle to walk down the street or manage stairs. I want to avoid that if at all possible, and since I just hit 30 I'm starting to realize I can't coast anymore. That being said my goal for this time around is simple: Complete a >10 minute yoga routine 3x per week I am planning on Tuesday/Thursday/Sunday but will leave room to adjust as needed (it is in my calendar!) I searched YouTube for some flows/routines I can do at home and put them in this playlist to choose from to start until I find a few that I enjoy the most I do not have access to a gym/studio so I will complete the routines in my home. I am not completely new to yoga and hope to get my children (elementary bordering on middle school aged) involved as well if they are interested. Any and all resource or video recommendations are welcome! And... that's it! A known struggle of mine is that I tend to attempt too much, get overwhelmed, and bail. One goal to rule them all for now. 6 Quote “She can't help it,' he said. 'She's got the soul of a poet and the emotional makeup of a junkyard dog.” ― Stephen King, Under the Dome Link to comment

I'm 55, and not in particularly terrific shape (work in progress!) but it straight up terrifies me to see how many of my friends my age or even younger are having back surgery, complaining about their knees when standing up for 15 minutes, or just thinking of themselves as "old" already. Dudes, I'm just getting started! Huzzah to you for recognizing now that this is not the future you want for yourself. 13 hours ago, Pockets said: And... that's it! Rookie
You got this new friend! Oh yeah, great idea to start with this earlier, since muscle loss starts in the forties (if we don't exercise, that is), and it's just easier to build strength earlier. Glad to not be on this journey alone! Slight challenge update: I reconsidered my work schedule and realized that Monday - Wednesday - Friday makes more logistical sense. So that's the new plan. Adjusted and in my calendar. Today I and the young ones did this mobility routine I found on YouTube: https://youtu.be/R3WDe7byUXo Pretty similar to one of my favorite older NF posts - The Ninja Turtle Workout, Mobility Section: https://www.nerdfitness.com/blog/the-teenage-mutant-ninja-turtles-workout/ Speaking of shinies, I do love an unnecessarily intense tracking method. Going to try to keep this as simple as possible this time around as well. Rookie
Ohhh so smart to adapt as you go! I like you even more. I was looking at the TMNT workout and I was like "Oh thats not too bad!" I was only reading the warm up LOL That is my fitness in a nutshell. 1 Quote {Chase the wind and touch the sky; I will fly} Link to comment

I like that I don't need anything but a doorpost or something similar to use as support on the leg swings. Then I read the rest of the sections and say: As I add more habits over time, my general plan for the physical fitness aspect is to build on this Mobility - Balance - Power - Strength idea. Also, let's be real, there will be pizza. I know it is an older and unupdated post and that the NF team probably wishes I would drop more relevant links, but this is the one that really got me hooked on the site. Maybe it's the 90s kid I once was. Maybe it's the supersets. Maybe I just want to be a ninja and cartoon ninjas seem less intimidating as aspirational figures than live action ninjas. Or real life ninjas. Maybe it's all of these. And I think I hit my GIF limit for today. Until next time. 1 1 Quote “She can't help it,' he said. I used to work at a pre-school and this channel was a must on indoor recess days. I remember the banana one being a huge hit (I worked with 3-year-olds so anything more than 10 minutes usually didn't land as well). Now that you have reminded me, I do recall that there were some longer videos targeting older kids. I will revisit, thanks for the recommendation! 2 Quote “She can't help it,' he said. Klutch
Yeah, archery was a complete win. Very glad we found the place. Today I was not on my A game. Klutch
Again, yesterday was not my best today and I skipped doing a mobility routine. Then, woke up today and my shoulder hurt (ongoing issue since high school) so I did this shoulder specific routine. https://youtu.be/R0J_aPs-Jgo I also did some of the resistance band shoulder exercises I'm supposed to do regularly anyway... Klutch
This flow was a bit too advanced for me in terms of upper body strength. I did my best (which meant a bit more tabletop than downward dog variations) but, again, good enough to count. It's not too far out of my reach though, so I might use this as a bit of a benchmark for leveling up. 2 Quote “She can't help it,' he said. Honestly, I don't think so, mostly because it didn't hurt until 6 days later. Sometimes seemingly insignificant things will set it off. I probably either slept weird or picked up something awkwardly the day before. But, who knows? The short version of the story is I injured my rotator cuff as a teenager playing volleyball. But I did it at the end of the season in my senior year and then I didn't play club (more competitive, winter/spring season) that year so I never properly rehabbed it. 17-year-old me underestimated the long-term effects of not actively seeking medical diagnosis/treatment. All data to that point led me to believe I had a comic book hero type healing factor. I was misinformed. But, thanks for asking/brainstorming! Quote “She can't help it,' he said.
