Nice. Very nice!

Twisting bear is rapidly becoming one of my favorite movement patterns.

Thank you :). It is one of my favourite movements too! I feel like it needs some sort of impressive sound effect for every rep.

Whoops - forgot my supplements. Getting my act together on the routine side, though - I earned my extra time and spent an hour chipping away at the thesis. Super tired and looking forward to just having a regular work schedule soon.

I am having way too much fun choosing the emojis for it!

I actually started working at 8:30 am today and was super on track with my routine, but had to deal with super stressful house stuff around the time I was going to start my workout. Didn't get to it until about 7 pm in the end 😬. Have the feeling that winding down tonight may be tricky with the stress.

The non-mobility parts of the workout:

  • Practice
    • front scales (3 minutes with rests)
    • back scales (3 minutes with rests)
    • elevated deep lunge (on box of books): bw x 5 x 3, each leg. These make Bulgarian split squats seem easy 😅. First time trying them - they are kinda like beginner shrimp squats, but with extra range of motion. It's a little tricky making sure I don't vary the assistance from my other leg when it is on the ground, but I videoed a set and it seemed decent. It's also a nice exercise for this cycle since it has a balance component, too.
  • Push
    • Bulgarian split squat: bw x 8 x 2 each leg

No DB deadlifts yet - still working on building up the work capacity for the extra volume. Unilateral work is tricky from a cardio perspective because it feels pretty much like doubling the number of reps since I do left and right back to back.

We actually have done everything we can (we got some paperwork together a few days ago because we thought this stressful situation might arise), but we're waiting on other people now until next week. Waiting is hard because there is nothing we can do at this point to feel like we have more control!

When you do the scales, are you doing reps for 3 minutes or holding as long as possible?

Hope you can unwind!!! I've been enjoying nighttime chamomile tea lately....

You could try to spin this to "We have done everything possible, now we lean back and drink tea and chill" (so with some positive mindset in the background) if you want. :) Less about loosing control and more about sitting back after you already did everything.

Reps! I did play with holding them for a few seconds, though - I'll have to ease in to it since holding it makes my quads cramp. It's probably great practice for the position needed by pistol squats.

Well, I did think of a few more things to do today 😅. I wish I could chill, but it's not the not-being-able-to-do-stuff that's causing the stress as much as the fact that how this plays out will impact our lives so much over the next 5, 10, 20 years, and also determine how much energy we need to spend on sorting out housing over the next year. And we've been in a state of housing uncertainty for about half a year now. It would be easier if the housing market wasn't so ridiculous, as then we'd be more confident that we could get another house if this one fell through.

But I will try to practice this mindset on smaller stressful things so I can start weathering the bigger stressors more gracefully!

As anticipated, sleep last night was poor. I ended up reading a lot. I'm a decent amount of the way through Goldenhand, but I decided to skip the parts from another point of view because most chapters were ending on cliffhangers and it was really frustrating. So I've basically collated the book by POV. I'm going to go back and read the parts I skipped and treat it as a short story/novella.

Put a four leaf clover in my garden because I could use some good luck right now.

Saturday: Oof, I am tired. But I'm less stressed about the house stuff because the vendors aren't worried about the delay. I still want to get things sorted and moving asap, but we have some breathing room.

My training session today was a light day for upper body pull movements and a heavy day for push-ups. Besides the push-ups, I kept the workout extra light in volume and intensity so I didn't overdue it. Main parts were

  • Practice: prone swimmers for 2 minutes, with rests
  • Push:
    • push-ups: on the ground x 4 x 3
    • inverted row scapular shrugs (overhand grip on one dip bar): bw x 8 x 3, with a short pause at the top of the rep. These probably aren't technically scapular shrugs, but I figured I can carry over pull-up progression strategies to inverted rows, too.
  • Play: cross-step bear for 1:30 min. I did it backwards for the first time, too, which was interesting to figure out coordination-wise, but doable.

As for the week overall: 4/3 strength training sessions, 3/2 bonus practice of locomotion movements, 4/7 for keeping to my routine with 5 bonus early starts, and 6/7 supplements. Still getting things together on the routine side, but I suspect that issue will solve itself soon when my workload lightens. And I also got to completely fill out my garden!
