I'm following this Roadmap for all of 2022.   This is the spring edition.

Body

Spring weather is here.  Time to get outside and enjoy it and get that summer bod ready!

Maintain an average calorie deficit.   I have a daily calorie goal set according to my Noom app.  I'll log food daily and as long as the average daily calories stays in a deficit I'm hitting my target.  This allows me to go over some days with much less guilt or stress. 

 

Move (almost) daily.  Daily movement counts if its either 10 minutes of intention fitness or at least hitting a calorie burn of 2400 according to my Fitbit.  I intended to increase the minimum burn this challenge but as I'm just recovering from Covid and still tire easily I'll stick with this threshold a bit longer.   The goal is to get 32 total days with movement, 22 of those will hopefully be workouts.  

 

Mind

Spring is such a beautiful time of year.  Time to be inspired by nature and enjoy my surroundings.

Painting.  I want to set aside some time to devote to painting.  There are a couple of acrylic tutorials I want to work through.  The goal is to complete 2 during this challenge.  

 

Reading. Maintain my reading streak on my kindle.

It's also time for some spring cleaning.

Fly Lady Zones.  I struggle to keep up and just keep dusting the top layer.  Fly Lady knows what's up.  I'd like to make her system work for me and not just work her system.  For this challenge I just want to be aware of the current zone and do something for that zone as I can.  

 

Projects.  I still have some leftover projects from 2021.  For this challenge I want to repaint the kids' bathroom.  Now that Mario stays over some time I'd like it to look nice.

Day 1 - Monday

Average Deficit: 127

Daily Movement/Fitness:  (2259 calories) 0/32 | 0/22

Yesterday was a great start to the challenge.  I moved my calorie target back down to my standard challenge deficit and ate well below that.  On the one hand it felt really good to stick to the usual meals and not overeat but I also woke up this morning dreaming about eating a Poptart and I woke up hungry.  I may need to move the calorie deficit down a notch while I continue to recover.  I was also expecting a nice nudge on the scale to coincide with switching back down to a deficit but the scale did not get the memo.  My weigh ins have been off kilter and unpredictable since Covid.   Lunch was ham and cheese followed by a couple Heath minis.  I had a banana for an afternoon snack before class and then we made porcupine meatballs for dinner.  I serve them over mashed potatoes but I mixed mashed cauliflower in and had green beans on the side.  

 

No fitness happened and my daily burn was low - I guess this might explain the unpredictable weigh ins.  I'm not taking this into account.   I worked from home so the only activity I got was walking to class and back.  I had to log into work again after class so there was no fitness time nor did I have anything planned.  We spent the evening starting to rewatch Ozark in preparation for the new season.  

 

The fly lady zone is the master area.  I hadn't even remembered to look at it until my update but better late than never.  Luckily DDG happen to wash all bath mats and sheets yesterday so that's something crossed off the list already.  Maybe I'll go through my floordrobe and get stuff put away this week.  And vacuum.   Those seem like good ideas.

Tuesday

Another solid day.  I worked from home again so activity was pretty low.  I did force myself to do a pilates workout from the app.  I wasn't into it at all and had to take a couple breaks.  I'm not sure if it's from having less energy from Covid or just because I haven't really worked out in 2 weeks.  But it got done and I felt better for it.  

 

I woke up quite hungry and decided I hadn't eaten enough the day before.  I bumped my calorie target up a notch but in the end I didn't really need it.  I did skip fasting and had a toasted english muffin for breakfast.  Lunch was a bowl of Raisin Bran crunch and a banana.  I had the munchies in the afternoon but limited my snacking to a bag of low cal white cheddar popcorn.  Dinner was leftover porcupine meatballs over mashed potatoes and cauliflower with green beans on the side.  I ended up just 11 under my calorie target.  

 

The rest of the evening was watching Ozarks.  No cleaning got done.  

 

It's supposed to snow here today.  It's supposed to be spring so here's some spring vibes as a reminder.

Wednesday

My first day back in the office.  It's a lot more work being in the office.  I was only average 1100-1500 steps wfh plus being sick and not doing much fitness.  Yesterday I had 5500 by the time I got home.  Unfortunately I got a migraine just as class ended (I guess its fortunate that it waited that long) so once I got home I wasn't up long.  I medicated with my typical over the counter meds but then also with some under the counter but totally legal in my parts medication and I overdid it a bit and ended up sleeping it off.   But it worked and I woke up migraine free this morning. 

 

Somehow I didn't eat much so I was way under calories.  Lunch was the usual with 2 mini Reese's.  The afternoon was busy so I never got around to a snack but was hungry when I got home.  Since I was hungry and had the migraine we just threw some Totino's pizzas in the oven and had an early dinner.  It helped but I was still 300 under target for the day.  I'm sure I would have snacked more in the evening had I stayed awake.   I did 2400 calorie burn so that counts towards daily movement.  It sure is easier when going to work.  I'd still prefer wfh.

Thursday

I ended up using the extra calories from the day before and went way over Thursday.  But that's how it works.  Sometimes you just gotta do.  I had the usual lunch with 2, no 3 mini Reese's.  I didn't get hungry in the afternoon for a snack so I skipped the banana.  But that didn't stop me from having a mini Snickers and a mini Mr Goodbar. 

 

Peach and I had plans for the evening, which included dinner.  We were going to go dress shopping for a fake prom dress.  Her and her bestie don't want to go to prom but they want to go out in prom wear for dinner.  There was no time for fitnessing but I figured the shopping would at least count as daily movement.  But she changed plans at the last minute and planned to order on online.  Instead we went to see Death on the River Nile.  We ate dinner at the theater and I had a big juicy smash burger and fries.  We didn't do any walking around so I came up short on my calorie burn.  Calories were over 316 but since the day before was over by 300 my average is safely back at 30 below target.  

 

I did get some reading done but no housework.

Friday

Friday was uneventful.  Work was work. I had to have an uncomfortable conversation with an employee but the rest of the day was productive. I had the usual ham and cheese and pita chips and hummus followed by some bits of chocolate.  
The weather wasn’t  great after work but it wasn’t cold so I went out for a short walk. I started up the hill like a bad bitch because I was feeling better but my lungs quickly informed

me that I’m a bad bitch that still needs to take it easy. I made the walk a bit shorter than I planned and skipped the big hill at the end. 
 

Dinner was the last of the porcupine meatballs. I had lots of calories left so we indulged for dessert. The employee I had that conversation with at work had brought me a decadent salted caramel sesame cashew bar the day before. Awkward. DDG and I split it for dessert.  I still had almost 300 calories left over. 
 

Saturday

i slept in a bit and spent most of the morning on the couch with DDG watching Ozark. After a sixteen hour fast we had grilled cheese with egg and bacon. My egg was over easy so my grilled cheese was wonderfully gooey. I had a blood orange on the side.  
 

DDG went out to run some errands in the afternoon. I stayed home and did some cleaning in our bedroom and then watched some trash tv. I got all my floordrobe put away and cleaned out DDGs nightstand. I purged 3 more items, including some old floppy disks I hadn’t been able to part with previously despite not having a floppy drive. 
 

We went out for another walk once DDG got home and then we relaxed until dinner out with his brother’s. We met them at a local pizza place and split an Alfredo pepperoni pizza and some appetizers. It was a very good time.  I definitely went over my calorie target. It ended up being 250 over.  I was tired afterward with a food coma. We managed 2 more episodes of tv before I had to call it.

Sunday

I did sleep in but woke up groggy and foggy headed.  I has some tea and some Zyrtek.  It either helped eventually or I just needed to zone out in front of the TV for a bit.  We were both hungry early too so we just had eggs over cheese toast.  I was low on energy all day and had planned a busy day so I decided to skip a workout and make it a rest day.  We alternated watching Ozark and getting stuff done.  We ran a few errands and I picked up some paint samples for the kids' bathroom, I baked a babka twisted bread loaf*, and Peach stopped over and we painted sample swatches on the wall and originally didn't like any of them**.    Mario was coming over to watch the US v Panama game and that meant we'd be ordering pizza so batch cooking got bumped to Monday, which is busy.  I did a little bit of prep for that too.   Dinner was Domino's and we tasted the bread when it came out of the oven.  I was over by 388 calories and my daily average is now in the tank.  

 

No fitness happened but I felt busy enough to count the day for daily movement.  My Fitbit seems to be off.  My calorie burn has seemed lower than expected all week.  I'm not sure if it's the Fitbit or my perception.  Covid seems to have slowed me down some and workouts are less intense, slower, shorter, etc.  But I didn't expect it to be this low.  I walked twice over the weekend, 1.4 miles each, a little slower than usual but not much, and I barely hit the 2400 calorie burn.  That's usually where I am on a busy day with no fitnessing.   Walk days are usually more like 2600.  

 

Fly Lady zone is not the living room and game room.  DDG swept s that counts but I haven't done anything yet towards those areas.

ETA: I counted baking as creativity time since I bake from the heart and it's something I've been wanting to do that I don't normally make time for.  

 

**An idea hit me later in the evening.  None of the greens I picked out felt like they'd work for the entire room so I'm going to paint a wide horizontal stripe of green.  All the art work and shelving will end up on the wall against the green.  I think it'll be divine.

Monday

The day was uneventful.  I worked and had class.  I didn't have time for an afternoon snack so I was tired and hungry when I got home.  We took a well needed break from pizza and I did the batch cooking despite being tired.  I made Millionaire Gnocchi.  We made a Bolognese with Italian sausage and tossed the gnocchi in it, then topped with a dollop of whipped ricotta and some homemade seasoned pancko with garlic and some fried herbs.  We had the garlic herb babka on the side.  It was incredible.    I finished the day with 120 calories left over.  My daily average is almost recovered.  

 

No fitnessing and technically my Fitbit didn't quite register 2400 calories but I was busy all day so I'm counting it.   No cleaning happened either.  Once dinner was done we parked ourselves on the couch and still only managed a couple episodes before I started falling asleep.

This is why it’s good that you’re measuring. People almost universally overestimate calorie burn and underestimate calories eaten.

Great point.   Having the data though it seems strange that the calorie burn seems lower when what I'm doing seems about the same.  However, I have been eating over target and struggling to keep the scale number where it should be.  A lower calorie burn is certainly consistent with my results.

Tuesday

I had to break my fast early as I had a two hour meeting scheduled over lunch.  I had a banana around 10:30.  The meeting ended up finishing after an hour and I would have been able to eat at noon, which wouldn't have been much past sixteen hours.  No biggie.   

 

I tentatively planned a walk for yesterday since it was the warmest day of the week but then switched it to a strength workout due to storms.  But after work the storms hadn't materialized and it was only barely a little murky.  We decided to get the walk done.  It was very windy but we didn't get rained on.  The walk was a great choice to help counteract dinner.  And candy.  I didn't eat a LOT of candy at work but more than I really have room for habitually and it will definitely develop into a habit if I don't reign it in soon.  It was back to pizza for dinner.  We had leftovers still hanging around and not enough gnocchi for the week.  The obvious solution was to sub in some pizza.   I finished over target by 400 calories doing additional damage to my daily average.  It will take a string of good days to fix that.  And a long string of good days is exactly what I need.  Mario is coming over again tonight to watch the US game.  I'm hoping we don't order pizza. 

 

We spent the evening on the couch watching Ozark.  I multitasked and played stupid games on my phone while we watched.  I used to do that regularly when I was home alone watching trash TV.  I haven't really done it much with DDG and I watch TV together.  I can definitely see the impact on sleep.  Without looking at my phone all evening I get tired sooner and end up falling asleep during TV.  With the phone I don't notice how tired I am getting until I put it down and am too tired to move up to the bedroom.  I never really noticed the impact it had when I was doing it all the time and didn't have a frame of reference.

Wednesday

There was entirely too much candy.  I may have lost track of how much.  I did fast sixteen hours.  I skipped my afternoon snack, or rather I replaced it with candy.   I had class after work and then intended to get a workout in at home before dinner.  Once I got home and sat on the couch to catch up with DDG all my motivation dissipated and the workout never happened.  Dinner was leftover Millionaire Gnocchi.  DDG dished it up while I made garlic bread using the garlic babka.  He didn't measure it and just eyeballed it.  I'm sure we had a little too much because there isn't enough left for dinner for both of us tonight.  But the garlic cheese bread was amazaballs!  I was careful with the candy after dinner and just had a mini Heath bar.  I went over but technically only by 40 calories although the margin of error was high yesterday.  

 

Mario did come over to watch the game.  He stayed pretty late afterwards but luckily I played on my phone during most of the game so I didn't realize how tired I was.  We did just a tiny bit of cleaning and folded and put away some of the extra blankets on the couch. I have so many blankets everywhere.  I really love blankets.  I also really like to keep my house really cold in the winter (63F) so I can use those blankets.  I like to keep it cold in the summer too so I can use blankets but it's just more expensive to keep it that cold.

Thursday

In an effort to curtail eating candy, I resorted to squares of dark chocolate after lunch.  I had 3 squares.  But later in the afternoon I saw someone eating a white chocolate mini Reese's so I had one too.  The same candy dish also had almond hershey kisses so I had 2 of those.  It's still an improvement.  I had scheduled a workout today but also had to cook dinner and wash my hair and I had better ways I wanted to spend my time.  I planned to skip the workout and partake in some adult activities with DDG when I got home only to find that Peach had come home early.   Adult activities thwarted but I skipped my workout anyway.  I spent some time checking up on Peach (She's been sick again) and catching up with DDG and the evening got away from us.  Before dinner I did clean up a mess from painting samples in the bathroom and a few other tidying jobs in the living room.  

 

Dinner was taco salads.  I cut up some bell peppers and sautéed them, then added a pound of lean turkey and hamburger to brown.  Once that was ready I added a can of diced tomatoes and 2 packets of taco seasoning.  In the meantime, DDG cut up some romaine lettuce and whipped up a dressing with some taco seasoning, taco sauce, and Caesar dressing (I wanted ranch but we were out), and shredded some monterey jack cheese.  Then we just assembled.  I started to toast a slice of the babka but then realized if I had the calories for that I had enough calories to add extra Doritos to my taco salad so I opted for that instead.  They were yummy.  I almost skipped candy for dessert but had a single mini Heath bar.  I was under my calorie target by only 15 but my calorie target was a little low.  My calorie burn was low too.  A workout would have helped.  

 

yesterday was the last day of the Living Room/game room.   I didn't really get the few things done I intended but the zone didn't last long and I get more done on Fridays and Saturdays. That certainly doesn't mean I can't do those things now but it's probably less likely.  The new zone is the entrance area, porch/deck, and the half bath. those are all areas that need a little work so it's well timed.
