J3NN Dials Back on moving toward her Strategic Future

Recommended Posts

I haven't been here in a LONG time, But I miss the accountability, and NEED it, so I'm back to try to get back in the habit of moving my body. I went through a program to create a fifteen year plan, and I've been overwhelmed by trying to do all the things, so I'm trying to do a little less... with better balance. Or something. Still figuring it out

Stealing Rookie's format because when it works it works.

Welcome back! 15 year plan sounds like an intense but also valuable exercise.

Your life goals all sound great, wishing you the best with this challenge.

Update, let's see if I remember how to do this.

Challenge Quests

  • Do at least 15 min of  “Molding Mobility” routine 5x / week
  • Walk 2x / week - to get 10,000 steps in a day

Molding Mobility

I spent some time yesterday learning how to do all the movements and stretches. I want to create a cheat sheet list to use as reference. I made a YouTube playlist, but it takes too long and I have to deal with commercials, so I want something better suited to a quick reference. As to the effort itself, it was doable and made me feel good afterwards. I'm sore in a few spots today, which should tell you something about how little I move every day... but that's why I'm doing this. Gotta start somewhere.

Walk

Steps have been low, highest was 4415, so I'll have to make a concerted effort to get that goal twice this coming week.

@Rebel Pilot Gar It was incredibly emotional and so intense in that way, that was unexpected, but it was so worth it in the end. I would recommend it, and I'm hoping to become a coach in the program so I can help others go through it.

I've done Molding Mobility twice more. I made a presentation that auto advances every 30 seconds, with the name of each mobility movement/stretch. IT works out to 12 1/2 minutes, which is close enough to 15 that I'm going to count it.  I've got it down now to know what equipment I need and can get through it quickly. I'm not as sore, so continuing to do it seems to be paying off.

I find myself looking forward to doing it, this is not normal for me. Also, today was just a better day all around. I woke up early, I did a meditation, and my mood overall was much better today.

Today was so good, I decided to try for a 10,000 step day so I went for a walk. I only had a little time, about 30 minutes, so I was only able to get in about a mile. That took my steps to just over 5300, not even close. So I decided to re-evaluate that goal to make it more realistic. I took the average daily steps for April, and calculated what a week would be if I had been able to get two days of 10,000 steps, and then took that as an average.  So my new goal is to get an average of 5,988 steps daily, which is a 36% increase, and will definitely be moving in the right direction.

Challenge Quests

  • Do at least 15 min of  “Molding Mobility” routine 5x / week
    • I was on a roll and got a streak of four days, then took two days off and got back to it today. I'm curious to see how this goes if I can get it into a routine, I think I'm feeling better physically for even doing just this little bit.
  •  Edited Walk Goal = Increase monthly daily average steps by 36% from 4,383 steps to 5988 steps average (In Huawei Health App)
    • Avg steps last week was 3,982, so I didn't make my goal, I didn't even make my normal average. I was out of the house a lot too, so that's kind of concerning. I've been really busy and tied to my computer for a lot of it, but I need to do better. Today I had to charge my watch, so I didn't get those steps in. I maybe should adjust for that, but I'm not going to worry about it right now.

I have put most of the things on hold as Thursday night into Friday I woke up with a pinched nerve and have been in pain and had limited mobility.

Yesterday I had to take off work and did nothing, today I'm trying to move a little bit more, but I don't think I'll get to any stretches yet.

Challenge Quests

  • *Note Week starts on Sunday
  • Do at least 15 min of  “Molding Mobility” routine 5x / week
    • Week 1 - 4/5
    • Week 2 - 2/5
  •  Edited Walk Goal = Increase monthly daily average steps by 36% from 4,383 steps to 5988 steps average (In Huawei Health App)
    • Week 1 - 3477/5988
    • Week 2 - 1298/5988

Thoughts... It looks like I'm not even trying. I need to use my atomic habits habit building skills to figure out how to get these things as something I'm doing. Just saying I'm going to clearly isn't working. To be fair the pinched nerve took out 2 days of activity, and being at Ren Faire made it hard to get the molding mobility done on Sunday, but I did get well over 10,000 steps in for the first time in weeks if not months.

I'm going to try setting a reminder in my phone to walk every hour during working hours. I wish my watch did that. I have my molding mobility built into my new morning routine, so we'll how that goes. I didn't do it today because I slept poorly last night so opted to snooze instead of bite the bullet. Tomorrow I just need to get up regardless.

Challenge Quests

  • Do at least 15 min of  “Molding Mobility” routine 5x / week
    • I'm gong strong this week 3 for3. Today I added in a focus on breathing to see if that does anything. It made it feel much more like a yoga workout so that was interesting. I think I got in less reps per 30 seconds, but that's probably okay.
  •  Edited Walk Goal = Increase monthly daily average steps by 36% from 4,383 steps to 5988 steps average (In Huawei Health App)
    • Yesterday I remembered to use an alarm on my phone to remind me to walk and I did double the steps the day before; today I didn't use the alarm and I'm less than half of yesterday. So the alarm is a good idea. I just wish I could set it for one hour instead of 30 minutes.

    • Week 3 - 4,233 steps... so not even better than my old average, but better, the alarm is helping
    • I reported wrong for the other weeks I think
      • Week 1 - 3,092/5988 avg. steps
      • Week 2 - 2,468/5988 avg. steps
    • So at least I'm increasing week over week...

A general monologue...

Gosh, I don't even know where to start. The challenge model still works for me, but I'm not being engaged enough to get the moral support. The timing is also off from how I've been running my personal challenges and that's proving harder to manage than I thought it would be. I'm debating, as it's the eve of a new month, if I want to set up something specific for June... if I just want to keep going this week and next, then set up something for the Summer. I've been feeling pretty lost and want to get back into more structure. But I've also been overwhelmed so I've been rebelling against that idea. My work issues may get a bit easier in July, so maybe I should just ride things out a little while longer...

Oh, that's a tough one.  Would a check-in buddy help?  I've had a super tough challenge from the personal life side of things this time and am definitely feeling the difference from not participating with others as much.  Or is more that your brain is rebelling against 'requirements,' like a teenager saying "I don't want to do it because you want me to do it"?  Or just life being what it is?  If it's the first, we could set up a very, very small check-in with each other routine, like once or twice per week.  Maybe one "like" and one comment per week?  The other two, I don't have much to work with beyond suggesting the tiniest of baby-step goals for pure diffiicult brain training, but would support you however you choose to work with it.

Here for you if you need it.

I was thinking something along that line. Making myself post on other's posts instead of just coming here, dropping an update and leaving. You have to give if you want to get right?  I'd love to try it with a check-in buddy :) to get started.

Your mountain day trip looks like a lovely, well=spent day.

Why does work always have to get in the way of life?  Meetings :(  bleh

It was, and it evaporates so quickly... I really need to be a better morning person so I can still enjoy nature before it gets too hot. While I love the mountain/beach trips, they're not realistic everyday and I suspect if I could get myself outside everyday I might have a better tolerance.

Work...meetings... repeat. I guess I'm just lucky it's not ALL meetings and I can actually get some work done so I don't have to stay on all night too :)
