Chesire figures out how this side quest works.

Recommended Posts

Last challenge I had a revamp mid-way through when I realized I'd misjudged the demand of my side quest.  Big ol' duh on that one.  Of course selling and moving is huge.  In my defense, we pushed up the time frame a lot.  Like by over a year.  Once the idea was out in wild we kinda decided to chase it.

So packing and moving overtook continuing education as priority.  Easy enough.  But this last week was a doozy.  A major cold, then a huge allergy reaction to spring in general...  Felt well, ran 6 miles easily for the first time, then somehow I contracted the plague.  Yep, that plague.  Tested positive yesterday, the day after the run.  So far I'm just a little run down, but not any different from what I'd expect after last week.  Fingers crossed it stays that way.

That's what's up as of today.  Let's look forward instead.

This side quest;  selling this house and buy another.  We plan to transition where we live this weekend.  We move to my parents place for the foreseeable future while we sell this house asap and then have some actual money and no contingencies to find a new house.

I'm not concerned about living with my parents for a bit.  They respect the roommate situation, not the parent/child situation.

Here's the challenge.  Learning how to apply all the skills I've learned through my main quest challenges to this side quest.  I feel like the tutorial didn't sufficiently cover 'how to use this fancy magic or artifact in a highly unusual and specific situation.'  Therefore the goals this challenge are deceptively simple.

House stuff:

- move living situation.  Mostly this isn't too hard.  Just need to keep clothing and toiletries available.  Move MrC's wfh setup.  The hardest part is move the sidekicks 🐶 🐱

- continue to move stuff out to the various basements available to us.  Sometimes people are very generous like that!  This is mostly a time challenge as all the basements are about an hour away.

-get house on the market asap

keep myself on track:

-maintain the progress I've made reducing meat from my life and general nutrition upkeep.  This could be a bit interesting.  Breakfast and lunch will need to be on point since dinner will be a bit beyond my control, though not bad.  Mom is good about balanced meals.

-maintain fitness.  Different challenges in that I'm losing my pull up gym and a great park for running.  We'll see what happens.  I had to put my DB Hero's Journey aside last week and this week.  I will jump back in when I am able to do so safely.

-Don't drink more!  I've worked so hard to reduce alcohol and don't want to backslide.  If I do it right, mom will follow my lead.

other happenings:

-wedding 2.0 on May 21

-try to find a house when we can

-start my machine tech apprenticeship in earnest

No points this time around.  I don't know how I'd assign points!  Instead I will do a simple checklist in my planner and try to keep up here as I can.

Here to watch your sidequest that sounds more like a story quest... But understand.

I know!  It developed way more quickly than expected and I may have misunderstood when I accepted it

So, I've never really tracked my own normal body temp.  Turns out this is a good thing to know since I've hit 98°F once this week.  So maybe that was a fever for me.  Maybe?  I think this will be a tracking challenge at some point.

You have a ton in your quest log!

I am amazed at how well thought out and detailed your goals are :D simply amazing!!

I am sorry that you got the plague, be kind to yourself and don't push too hard! You got this!!

Also about the fever thing - the other day I actually looked up what a fever temp was and was surprised to see a range, some people run cooler and things like 98 can be considered a fever. Get lots of water and rest!

Thank you.  I'm almost ready to consider exercise again.  But, maybe not?  hehe  Day by day.

Looks like I'm one of the low ones.  Kind of a good thing to know.  Now I'm testing out of curiosity and so I can get a good idea of my healthy normal.

Busy, busy.  We successfully transferred living situation.  Now to finish emptying the house and clean it.  Whee.  All I want is one day when I can just do things I want.  What bliss!  One of these days, and if I push now it comes sooner, right?

So far, nutrition is good.  Alcohol needs an attention bump, but not bad.  I'll get back to organized fitness soon, when time and health allow.  I miss it, so I know I'll go back.

I think that's the big things for now.

I'm also on the lower side. I did almost daily temperature tracking at the start of the pandemic (because I had to check a box for work that said I don't have a fever or other symptoms, and how would I know if I didn't measure it) and it was really interesting to see the pattern. I basically have two different normal temperatures depending on the time of month. Apparently time of day also affects temperature, but I almost always measured it first thing in the morning  so I don't have a good idea of how that part of the equation works for me.

This is the wedding weekend.  all things wedding, all the time.  I can already feel stress settling down and we've only had one event.  I'm hoping Monday will be a blissful day even if I have lots of things to do.

Happened to have a conversation with my cousin last night;  apparently we are definitely a low body temp fam.  LOL

We're almost done with moving and prepping the house for sale and it seems we'll be right on goal of June first.  I can not wait to be done with driving and hour, cleaning and packing for hours, driving an hour, unloading, walking the dog, taking care of the things I ignored to do the packing, and doing it all again the next possible day.  I haven't had time for 'real' exercise and I just want to go for a run dagnabit.

Other specific challenge goals.  I've been doing ok with alcohol, not the best but absolutely not terrible.

I'll have time and energy for exercise when both of those are no longer devoured by house and wedding.  And while I'm no longer technically sick and feel pretty healthy, I do still have some of the pesky cough and wonder how that and running will work together.

And finally my first sewing machine tech training is schedule for the end of next challenge.  I curious to see how that goes.  Apparently usually there is one or two people who realize about two days in that nope, nope, nope, they hate it, a few no-nothing know-it-alls, a few old guys who've been working machines for ever and are over the top, and a few like me who are just there to work and learn and have to endure the evening socializing dinners when we'd rather just be in our rooms.   You know, the classic set-up for all training sessions.

I just want time for me.   *Whine*  Soon, I hope

Finally got around to looking at some other folks' challenges, so this is my first time seeing that you're getting married today (I've been gone a little while)! Congratulations to you and MrC!

How about I'll accept 10 year anniversary congrats :)  since I had that a few days ago.   My brother got married/remarried/had the party after getting married in the height of 2020 madness this weekend and I was matron of honor.

And nice to see you again.  I'll take a swing into see what's up in your challenge very soon.

10 years, huh? Nice! My wife and I are coming up on number 5 in June.

Maybe Copy / Paste my congrats, swap out the names, and...we're good!

Good to see you too. I'm hoping now that I've figured out a methodology for quickly and easily updating these challenges that I'll be able to stick around a lot longer. Or maybe I'll see something shiny and go wander off again. Who knows? It's a crap shoot at this point. ;)

I had time to sit in the sun a read for a bit on Sunday afternoon.  It was bliss and necessary recovery time from too many people and too much noise.

I'm definitely mentally ready to get back on the Hero's path and return to organized exercise, but still need to reserve energy for the final packing and cleaning marathon this weekend.   I'll have to modify pull up training, or even drop it all-together if I can't find a suitable place around here.  And as I type that I remembered there is a playground less than 1/2 mile away.  There must be something I can use there.  Oh!  Excited again!

Slightly unrelated but it is still activity; there was a golf outing last Friday.   It was my first of the year so I was amazed that, for me, I was playing pretty darn well.  I may even actually, for really reals, track my score this year.  I never have to make sure I still had fun, and double digits on individual holes can be demoralizing.  :D

Finally, I have the bandwidth to focus on nutrition again.  Without analyzing too deeply I feel I held on by the tips of my fingers up to the wedding and just survived the weekend.   But I don't feel like crap and that's my best measure.  Funny thing, I told the ladies at work that I'm progressing toward flexitarian without being obsessive about it.  Of course, in at least 2 brains that became vegetarian, so when one of the brains started to ask me a meat related question, she stopped herself, paused, and said 'oh, you don't really eat meat, but you used to eat meat, so here's my question.'  No guys, I do still eat it, I'm just choosing to spend time and money on decent stuff (quality and care.)

Anyway, looking forward to returning to my hero training and starting the search for our new base.  Also having time to check in around here will be lovely.

I finally was able to go for a run today.  My last 'official' exercise was exactly 4 weeks ago and it was a run.  I didn't push it today, 2.5 miles, but man it felt good to get out there.  Looking forward to the day I can do 6 miles again, though that was a huge achievement so it will take some work to do it again.

I did the same yesterday, well, we had lunch outside and I swear it was the first time I'd had the sun on me in weeks. It made me feel so much better.

Cheering for you getting back on the Hero's journey. 👏

That's a major accomplishment! Congratulations :)

I'll be curious to see how it goes from here. The housing market sure has been crazy of late.

How's the rest of the challenge going? Hope you're feeling better now that you're about a month out from the plague. Numbers are ramping up here...expecting the mask mandates to be reinstituted this month...Yay. 🙄

How's the rest of the challenge going?

I didn't have super high goals on this round and that was a smart plan. :)  Thanks for asking!

I did a foolish thing though.  Finally went back to DB Hero's Journey after a month, didn't really consider that I hadn't trained pull ups in a while and did all the things....  So sore.  But super happy to be able to find time again.

Food has been decent.  Though last week I prepped my meals for the week on Mon, and on Tues I couldn't find my protein.  Turns out MrC found 'leftovers' in the fridge and put them into his pasta, pasta that I couldn't eat for dairy reasons.  I didn't ask how there could be leftovers of something he'd never eaten in the first place, but let it go and grumbled to myself.  Clearly pointed out this week's lunches to him though.

I'm definitely already thinking of the next challenge and whether I want to return to my point system of not.  I like that points give me clear direction and feedback, but being all loose-y goose-y  was kind of fun this time around.

I want to hear the next part of my audio book, so off for a run/walk.

I've been revisiting Garth Nix and his Keys to the Kingdom series,  but now I need to find something to keep in the wings since it's almost done.  MIght be time for a personal growth or exploring something/learning related book.  Don't know what that looks like just yet.

I'm up for suggestions and I know you'd been exploring interesting topics before your hiatus!

let's do a recap

House stuff:

- move living situation.  Mostly this isn't too hard.  Just need to keep clothing and toiletries available.  Move MrC's wfh setup.  The hardest part is move the sidekicks 🐶 🐱

- continue to move stuff out to the various basements available to us.  Sometimes people are very generous like that!  This is mostly a time challenge as all the basements are about an hour away.

-get house on the market asap

This worked out quite well.  There has already been a shift in the market so alas no bidding war.  Darn.   All that's left is cleaning out the last of the limited 'staging' furniture and some patio/outdoor stuff.  Annoying that I can't just be done with it right now, but that's my inner child being a brat. :)

keep myself on track:

All in all, not too shabby.  Mostly nutrition continues well.  It's just amazing how a change of living space really interrupts routine and planning!

We know fitness took a break between being sick and literally all my time and energy going to packing and moving.  I hit DB to hard upon return and my DOMS have been out of control, needing 3 days to recover.  Eh, whatever, just roll with it.

Alcohol, hanging in there.  More but not terrible.

other happenings:

-wedding 2.0 on May 21

-try to find a house when we can later

-start my machine tech apprenticeship in earnest been absorbing all I can from the outgoing tech.  I think I'd be able to do some basics cleaning on my own, but I'm not allowed yet.  I think my training week falls into the last week or following zero week next time.  Getting excited to try something new

I'd classify this one as a success.  And I have no idea what my next one will look like.   Whatever AchingLastAmphibian-size_restricted.gif  :)
