Silmarilliane's Twenty-fifth Challenge

Happy May! Last challenge went well and I levelled up – I’m going to be sticking to the ‘simplified’ daily checking rather than complicated weekly buckets. Again, not counting the current embedded exercise stuff I’ve built into my routine already.


Things to improve

I have been cycling more because of last challenge, but not consistently, and I did 2+ miles walking every day bar one in the last challenge, but definitely feel I need the motivation to keep it up.

Food as ever is the worst part – what I found last challenge is if I knew I had the ‘day off’ counting calories, I overate and snacked all day long, which I’d like to avoid.

Not looking at my phone before bed has also been good last challenge, but again I feel I need the prompt to stick at it.

 

The Challenge (additions from last one in italics)

 

Food

  • Under 1600 calories = 10 points per day
  • Two days in a row = 5 points
  • Not counting/overeating one meal = 0pts
  • Overeating the whole day for the sake of it = -10pts

Total possible points = 520

 

Sleep

  • No phone before bed = 10 points per day
  • Two days in a row = 5 points

Total points = 520

 

Walking

  • Two miles walking = 10 points per day
  • Two days in a row = 5 points

Total points = 520

 

Cycling

  • Any cycling in a day = 5 points

 

Total possible challenge points = 1735 (I think...)

To pass the challenge I need to get at least 1000 points

Day 1 yesterday, still feels weird to start on a Sunday but also good as I otherwise would have splurged unnecessarily! We had a little wander around the local fields and woods and up to a pub for a roast and cider which was deelish. I tracked calories as well as I could and came in under - I only had a couple of bits of toast beforehand, and a mint aero for pudding after I got home so am happy that I was sensible despite the roast. Walking was >2miles and I finished a Duolingo lesson after I got in bed, but seeing as I then decided to put the phone down instead of opening some sort of socials app I'm giving myself the points for it.

Yesterday felt more normal to be challengey, it being Monday. Working from home so had lunch very early... managed to stay under calories though, had a lunch walk and then walked to pilates and back. Headachy so definitely went to bed without phone!

I like how you can get points for two days in a row of walking! Hope you got a good night's sleep and the headache went away

Having the two day bonus gives me more incentive when I have a day 'off' :D

Yesterday was office and chorus day - I got my standard falafel wrap for dinner but they went and put halloumi in it. As I didn't ask for it, I don't think the calories should count, so ner. Especially as yesterday was ~6 miles walking. Also no phone before bed, woo!

Tomorrow I'm off to a singing convention, so I have no idea what food/drink is going to be like, and I don't know how I'll track walking as it's all on a uni campus. We shall see...

So yeah, far too much food and snacking yesterday and today so far... Got a decent amount of walking in both though so at least that's something...

Swift update - yes no tracking food, but walked a lot (also got a swim in at the conference centre!) Hard to judge phone as it's not a normal weekend, staying in a hotel and replying to messages etc. None of it was senseless scrolling through, and when I went to sleep the phone went away so I don't think I'll mark myself down.

Yesterday I had hotel breakfast, a few snacks in the car and thought I was doing sensibly having soup and pasta for dinner, but then I got post-convention-blues being by myself at home for hours and ate some chocolate and crisps from the car snacks... Oh well... Still managed a couple of turns around the lake at the hotel, and did no phone scrolling before sleep.

I feel like the no phone is almost setting in as a habit after getting back in to this challenge, woo.

Yesterday was a day of all success, though I say that sightly worse for beer in my way home from someone's leaving drinks haha!

Where is the time going... yester I did lots of walking and no phone in bed. I started the day solidly and had a low-cal dinner on my way to some leaving drinks, but then yes had several beers. As this was limited to the evening though, this is a zero-pointer rather than a minus.

Obv every day I'm like I will catch up on everyone else's challenges and then work gets away with me and here we are at 5pm...

Went to the theatre yesterday and for dinner beforehand. I ate sensibly through the day and have just gone to add the things I ate out of interest - 300 calories over, of which ~200 was a pint of Guinness. I've definitely found that separating out 'binge all day' and 'binge one meal' is making new make much better choices. I even got home late thinking of what I could eat and decided I really didn't need anything 🙌
