Daily Quests

  • Molding Mobility 5x/wk I was only able to achieve this one week of five last time, so I’m going to keep this as is and see if I can get there.
    • Commitment: Molding Mobility 5x/wk
  • Daily steps (avg 6000) - My steps decreased on average over the last challenge, so I need to keep focusing on this. I’m going to try to break it down and work towards 425 steps an hour to see if that makes it easier
    • Commitment: Daily steps (avg 6000)
  • Read in Kindle - I’m starting to use Kindle Insights. My goal is to break both my daily and weekly streaks.
    • Current: Weekly - 24 weeks, Daily, 30 days. Goal: Weekly - 104 weeks, Daily, 51 days.
    • Commitment: Read in the Kindle every day

Quests

  • Gain clarity on one of my strategic milestones by shifting gears to focus on my mission more. Deliverable is to rewrite my strategic milestone and identify some tasks and objectives. To do that I plan to interview hobbyists, host a conversation amongst hobbyists, and keep up my weekly newsletter and the book club.
    • Commitment: Newsletter plus one activity per week
  • My mission states that I see myself becoming a creator of shared, adventurous experiences of craftiness, creativity, learning, and community. I want to keep track and see how much I’m doing that.
    • Commitment: Participate in 1 shared experience per wk of Craft Lunch, Book Club, SF, etc.
  • Update our home living spaces to match who we are and how we’re living now. I was trying to do too much, so I’ve simplified this and set up motivation. Our daughter is coming home for a visit in September, so while most days the space I’m working on is my home office, while she’s here it will be the guest room, so I need to get it ready.
    • Commitment: Complete 1 item from the list in the home office per week
      • List
        • Consolidate paperwork in the file cabinet
        • Put Neotropolis craft supplies and props away
        • Organize things from my old work office to keep, throw away, donate or sell
        • Organize and store office supplies
        • Organize the closet
  • Bring elements of adventure into life in big ways and small. One of my values is adventure, last quarter I tried to do something adventurous every week. If I’m honest that got to be a bit much, so I’m dialing it back, even though I believe it’s what helped keep me sane. This time I’m looking at one adventure each month. An adventure counts if it is multi-day and involves travel. This month I’ll be spending 4 days and 3 nights in the San Diego area enjoying some fun in the sun, a wedding, and cheering for my husband and friends at a triathlon.
    • Commitment: Complete a monthly travel multi-day adventure 200.gif
  • Prepare for a retirement that will allow us to live comfortably with funds for regular adventures. Our next adventure is a family cruise including my parents, step-siblings, and spouses. It will not include our children. I want to make sure that IF something should happen I’ve done the pre-work to make that go smoother for our adult daughter if she should have to deal with that.
    • Commitment: 20% progress from the wizard/tutorial to complete Will each week before we go to Alaska
  • Commit to mental, physical, and spiritual growth so I can be content, active, and aligned. My objective is to create a toolkit journal that I can thumb through when I have time or need to practice self-care.
    • Commitment: Add 1 self-care practice to my journal per weekHappy Summer GIF by Build-A-Bear Workshop

But, I'm on vacation now! Spring Break Travel GIF by Expedia

We're heading off to a wedding/race (triathlon) adventure for the next few days and for me that will include some fun in the sun because we're going to be near the beach. I have a ton of things to do still, but have laptop, will travel, so here we go. :)

The challenge is going, mediocrely... is that a thing?Meh Kinda GIF by Cultura

Hopefully the vacation time will get me all caught up and rested, recuperated, reinvigorated all those things.

So that's my story and I'm sticking to it. I'll try to post some fun shots while I'm away.

I was able to get in my movement yesterday, even as a travel day, so that was good. Hoping to sneak it in again after I finish some writing here.

I almost made my 6000 step goal yesterday, finally. But my average is not getting there. This is my true challenge apparently.

The wedding last night was beautiful. I hope things work out for them and they're open to all the kinds of love in their lives. I do have concerns about this one...

Today we're moving hotels and getting settled in to the area where my husband's triathlon will be on Sunday. It's a new part of San Diego for us, we've visited but never spent a lot of time, so it'll be an adventure to explore and see what there is to see.

Oh, and Wednesday night we had a surprise thunder and lightning storm that brought some rain. I was able to catch a few videos of lightning so that was fun. I'll post them from my phone.

I only did about half of one item because of our travel, but considering we've been gone for three days of the week I'm feeling really good about all that I've accomplished here.

Blech, this week.

Yesterday - had to go into to the office to finish packing to move out. The AC was out and it was over 100, it reached 87 inside before I gave up and left. Also when I got there my work laptop was missing. It turned up eventually. The people moving into our offices thought we were already moved out and so had started to claim things.

New Girl Facepalm GIF by HULU

Today - planning transitions, department strategy, dealing with a disaster drill, covid protocol updates and so much more. I didn't finish work until 7. I try to never work overtime. :(

Tonight - I still haven't finished reading for book club tomorrow... two and a half chapters to get in so I can be ready to lead out, and last time no one even showed up. I hate people that RSVP they're coming and don't show up.

So yeah...

Let's see, this week, where did it go?

Confused Wile E Coyote GIF by Looney Tunes

The plague has entered our home. After all this time... My husband started having symptoms Thursday night, tested positive today. I'm not having symptoms. But we haven't been isolated from each other so I'm guessing it's when, not if. (In other news my parents have both tested positive after returning from a European cruise. Yay.) We are staying isolated at home. I'm expecting that to get bumpy in a few days, my spouse is not one that does well with isolation, lack of exercise or staying in.

I ordered some easy groceries and snacks and stuff and order pizza so we're good for the weekend. Trying to figure out what to do, if anything for beyond that. Since I've been feeling okay I've been trying to stay on top of chores at least in case I get knocked down. I also did manage a lot of my challenge items, but with my focus, I haven't done the physical stuff. I honestly don't know if it would be better for me or worse and I've been busy at work with my butt in a chair, so I just haven't been good about being active.

I have my will mostly done, I need to get it notarized. That went a lot more smoothly than I had expected.

I was able to completely move out of  my work office, AND I even got all that stuff put away in my home office. AND I was able to tackle this task "Put Neotropolis craft supplies and props away" away, at least mostly. This gives me access to the futon in my office, so if I had to find separate sleeping arrangements due to the plague, that will now be a whole lot easier.

I got my second self-care routine added in my journal.

I had a couple shared experiences this week, but not the one I had planned. My book club had 6 people RSVP attending and not one showed. For two meetings in a row. It's disappointing. I posted a message to the group and asked for some feedback on why. I only had four responses, and they're all different.

Bored Where Are You GIF by Odreii

These are the reasons I got, and I don't know what to do with that.

  • Time is inconvenient
  • Day is inconvenient
  • Didn't finish the reading
  • Too many meetings for one book

I decided to try doing two meetings in a month for one book, and offered some other days/times, or even to just do discussion questions in our message board instead of holding a live meeting. We'll see if I get a better turnout for July. Here's hoping. At the very least it keeps me reading books I wouldn't normally pick, so it takes me out of my comfort zone and keeps me learning. Even if I don't get to talk to anyone about it.

I got my first interview returned and turned into a blog post, so I will be able to begin my Hobby Hunter series in my newsletter this week.

Happy Art GIF by La Guarimba Film Festival

I've managed to read every day, and of course we did our multi-day travel adventure last weekend. So this has been a full week.

Here's to the mildest of the plagues and some work stuff wrapping up here very soon.

Oh no!  May you get lucky like MrC did when I had it a few weeks ago.  Obviously we didn't isolate from each other before my positive test, and after... we already sleep in separate beds and just ran with the idea he'd get it from me...  but that lucky bugger never contracted it.  I hope your house isn't knocked down and out by it.  Is your husband the sort of person that can survive on walks as a form of exercise?  Dog walks are what got me through it

😠 :(   annoyed for you.  Maybe everyone just wants to play outside now that it's summertime?

Sounds like you are tackling a whole host of challenges well, even if not the ones you planned on.

You've gone quiet.  Is that a bad sign?

Yes, sadly. The week was lost to the plague. Hubby bounced back pretty quickly, I got hit harder. But I believe I'm on the mend now. Trying to take it easy so there's no relapse. I missed work all week, and everything else.

We're going to call whatever week that was another Zero week and start over this week, but slower/smaller. So here's my new plan to finish out this challenge.

Commitments

  • Newsletter plus 1 Hobby Hunter activity per week
  • 1 shared experience per wk of Craft Lunch, Book Club, SF, etc.
  • Work on 1 item from list to in home office per week
  • 20% progress in wizard/tutorial  to complete Will
  • Molding Mobility 2x/wk
  • Daily steps (avg 2000)
  • Add 1 self-care practice to my journal per week
  • Read in Kindle daily

I read such a good book while I was resting. Bob Proehl, A Hundred Thousand Worlds: A novel. I was looking for a super hero book, (as opposed to comic) and this showed up in my search so I gave it a shot. It wasn't a superhero book at all... but it wasn't not a superhero book. If you like the comic book industry, comic cons, or stories about stories... you'd like this book. I'm going to check out his other stories now, glad I found a new author as part of this plague.

The week is not going as healthily as I had hoped. I've gone back to work (thank heavens for working remote) but that's about all the energy I've had, so I'm not sure I'm up to even those few commitments I had hoped to get to.

Focusing on health and healing for now and will see if I can find my way back to normal for the next challenge.

So the healing was hard work, and continues to be. I was not able to even meet my minimum requirements I had pared down to. But... I did make a little progress. And I made some progress feeling better. So it's better than nothing.

I'll regroup and do something more scaled back for next time I guess until I get back on my feet.
