Jupiter Stays Afloat

Recommended Posts

Dealing with some friend drama at the moment, so this challenge will be small, but I want to make sure I at least do something and try to stay above water. Anyway, goals:

- Workout 4 times a week, doesn't matter what it is. As long as I spend at least 10 minutes on it, it counts.

- Cook 2 times a week. Right now, I'm sticking mainly to breakfast foods. I'm fairly decent with scrambled eggs, simple breakfast burritos, and breakfast sandwiches at this point so now I'm working on omelets.

- Do writing-related things 4 times a week. Doesn't matter what it is, as long as I spend at least 20 minutes on it.

That's all I've got. Happy challenge, nerds.

Welp, I made the mistake of watching the news this morning and was...not pleased. So, after work I ate my feelings with brownies and watched Obi-Wan Kenobi. Solid story-telling, didn't quite buy some of the big emotional moments like I'd hoped, but otherwise it was pretty good. Little Leia pretty much stole the show. Anyway. Tomorrow will be better.

Living life as a Druid is about walking with the beasts. It's about being scared, looking your fears in the eyes and going on anyway. Dread doesn't go away, you just learn to know it. It's still a beast, it still has fangs, but you walk among it.

-hugs- That news was  horrible in so many ways, I don't know how I'd have dealt with it if I'd live in the US either. I'm glad you enjoyed Obi-Wan Kenobi, and hope that today was indeed better.

*hugs* Thanks, today was better, though I admit to doing a bit of doom scrolling for a little while before I made myself stop.

Today was busy. Ran some errands and went to the dentist. They told me there is a shadow on one of my teeth in my x-rays, which is concerning. I thought it might be a cavity, but the dental assistant said it could be an infection and I might need a root canal, which kind of freaked me out a little. But the dentist didn't see anything in my mouth or on the tooth itself, and other than a bit of discomfort every once in a while, it doesn't cause me any pain, so he didn't seem too concerned about it. I've been clenching my teeth a lot lately so he said it could be attributed to that, but I don't know. They saw the shadow last time too and just told me to keep an eye on it. I'll just have to keep doing that, I guess.

Anyway, after all that I went home and ran the dish washer, then a load of laundry, did some magazine research and did some lessons on Duo. I'm learning that French is hard.

More friend drama happened today, so I didn't get as much done as I wanted to. Still, I managed to get a little bit of research/work done, did a few lessons on Duo, and I cooked a cheese omelet and toast for lunch. The first time I tried making the omelet I tried to flip it and it broke apart a bit on me. Second time around it looked better, and more like an actual omelet. Pretty proud of myself.

Had a headache all day so I just played a few minutes of beat saber. Which maybe I shouldn't have done given said headache but with all the stress I've been dealing with in the past week I just really needed to hit some fake boxes. Anyway, the new yard guys came out today to work on the yard, and they did a good job, except they sprayed weed killer in my backyard, which I did not want them to do. I have never had a yard service spray weed killer in my backyard, always just the front yard. I don't know why they would do that, it made me so mad. Since I have a dog (and neighbors' cats running around), I prefer to have as few chemicals sprayed around my backyard as possible. And since I've never had weed killer sprayed back there, I had no idea how long I was supposed to wait for it to dry and when it would be safe for her. The internet said anywhere from 30 minutes to 3 hours, to 48 hours, which made me start to freak out, but a friend said to wait 20 to 30 minutes and it would be fine. I gave it a bit longer than that, and it seemed fine, but still. I was not happy.

I hope the friend-drama will die down soon 🙄. Anyway, I'm proud of your omelet as well, it sounds really nice :).

Thanks, me too. This whole thing has become seriously exhausting. And thanks re: the omelet. I think what helped was using a bigger spatula. I was able to flip it pretty nicely without it breaking apart on me. :)

Well, my dog woke me at what felt like the crack of dawn this morning because she was moving around more than she usually does, which is usually a bad sign. So I went and checked and sure enough, she'd pooped all over my floor. After I cleaned it up, I went back to bed but then I heard her pacing for like the next hour, at which point I finally gave up on sleep and just got up. I have felt like a zombie all day. I managed to send out a short story submission to a magazine, but otherwise, that's it. The sum total of my productivity for today.

Well, I didn't do much the last few days, though I suppose the week wasn't a complete wash. Quick recap of the last week:

- Workout 4 times a week: 1/4 -- Not great, but at least I did one.

- Cook 2 times a week: 1/2 -- Well, I'm halfway there.

- Do writing-related things 4 times a week: .5/4 -- Did terribly on this last one, but I guess considering everything going on right now I can't be too hard on myself...Okay, I will try not to be too hard on myself...I can't believe that's all I did...Okay, I'm stopping now.

Anyway, new week, new day. The past two days I tried to make up a little for lost time. Yesterday I did some squats and wrote on a potential new project for a few minutes. I ended up with I think around 300 words? Other than that, I read for most of the day, which I sorely needed. Almost finished an entire book of short stories, and it was amazing. Today, I did some maintenance things, though not as much as I would have liked. I didn't do laundry, and I still need to clean the fridge and the pantry. I did some beat saber for 10 minutes and tai chi for 10 minutes. I didn't like the tai chi app/game at first, but it's growing on me. If only it didn't treat me as if I'm ten feet tall. Anyway, I wrote another 500-ish words, and worked on my outline, which I've been neglecting for a few weeks. I was stuck on this one plot point, but now I think I've figured it out.

I'm pretty sure I need to go back to the dentist, too. The slight discomfort turned into an intense burning sensation today, and it's not pleasant. Of course, this led me to look up everything about infected teeth and what a root canal entails and all the potential problems, and I fell down the internet rabbit hole and freaked myself out and had to tell myself to stop reading. I don't know why I do this to myself.

Now my dog is pacing because of the fireworks so I'd better go cuddle her. Night, nerds.

Didn't do too badly today. Played 10 minutes of beat saber and then did 10 minutes of tai chi. Also wrote for around 10-ish minutes on the new story project. No cooking, but I've written up my grocery list, so I'll be going to the store in the next day or two.

I think it's time to finally switch doctor's offices. This one used to be really good, but ever since they got bought out, dealing with them has become super frustrating. I've gone through 4 doctors in the last 3 years. One of them I never even got a chance to see because they quit before my appointment. And every time a doctor quits, I have to make a new appointment with a new doctor, which I have to pay for, just to get my prescriptions refilled. Plus, the waiting times seem to get longer and longer. I ended up waiting 30 minutes today just to talk to my new doctor for 5 minutes about my prescriptions. There weren't even that many people there. And don't even get me started on getting ahold of the office, which I can't do anymore unless they call me, because all of my calls go through a third party now in some other state (I think I talked about this a little bit before). Anyway, I need to start doing some research and see where else I can go.

If they can't keep their doctors, that's all the red flags you need. Get away from that place as soon as you can.

I hope you can find a good doctor you can stay with. :)

...wait, did you have to pay for the appointment with the doctor you never even saw?! If so, that's absolutely ridiculous. Sounds like whatever parent company bought out the clinic is pretty bad if they're having that much turnover, I'd definitely bail and find another clinic.

Thankfully no, that one just got canceled. For the ones I did see, they billed me as a new patient, and those I did have to pay for. I started doing some research on other doctors/offices, so hopefully I can find one soon and I can finally quit this place.

Meh, not the best day today. Was really tired so all I did was 10 minutes of tai chi and spent maybe 5 minutes with a dumbbell. Did 2 sets of 5 for dumbbell deadlift, single arm overhead, and one arm row with a 15-pound weight. Also wrote for a few minutes. That's all I've got tonight. Hoping to go to bed early.

Quick recap of today: Was super exhausted so only did 10 minutes of beat saber, and managed to write for around 40-50 minutes, though really it only ended up being around 600-ish words. Also ordered groceries to pick up tomorrow. Oh, and received another rejection for a short story, but instead of wallowing for a few days like I usually do I'm already researching and getting ready to submit to the next place.

Recap of the last few days:

Spoiler

Friday sucked royally. I had a few rush files at work and the person who asked for them made a last-minute change on the first, which didn't even need to be done, but she did it anyway, and messed things up to the point where I had to spend a bunch of extra time on it fixing her mistakes just as things started to implode and people started freaking out. Then she asked me to do another rush, while I was still fixing the last one. This file was literally imploding on me because of her, and she was just like, "Oh, hey, I have this other file, too, I need it in twenty minutes, you can do that, right?" I swear I almost went off on her. I like her and she's usually really great and on top of things, except of course when it comes to rush files. She seems to think that things on my end take less time than they actually do, and it's no big deal if things change at the last minute, and it just drives me crazy. I complained to my manager about it, but I doubt anything will come of it. I have complained about this problem multiple times before and things have yet to change. Anyway, because of the crap at work I didn't do much the past two days.

Goals were a mixed bag last week:

- Workout 4 times a week: 5/4 -- This kind of surprised me, I didn't expect that.

- Cook 2 times a week: 0/2 -- Nope. Zero. Zilch. Nada.

- Do writing-related things 4 times a week: 2/4 -- Wasn't really sure how to calculate this one, because on the one day I did like 50 minutes and on one or two other days I only did like 5-10 minutes instead of the 20 I'd planned/hoped for. I'll just go with halfway there.

Ugh, I was so tired and had a headache, so I barely did anything today. I feel like every time I try to change things, even a little bit, I just keep falling back into the same habits and never really progressing. It's so frustrating. Anyway, stats:

- Workout 4 times a week: 1/4 -- Did 10 minutes of beat saber and 10 minutes of tai chi.

- Cook 2 times a week: 0/2 -- Nothing yet.

- Do writing-related things 4 times a week: 1/4 -- Sort of. Did some research on a few magazines and tinkered with the first page of my novel.
