J3NN Has a Vision and can make it come true

Hi,

I'm J3NN. I'm recovering from covid and have a vacation planned this challenge so I'm probably going to be quiet and slow this time. But I want to keep on keeping on, so I have set up a challenge and tried to dial it back, or make the recovery and fun more of a focus.

So here's what I came up with this time...

Bring elements of adventure into life in big ways and small

  • Gish scavenger hunt
  • 1 shared experience per wk of Craft Lunch, Book Club, SF, etc.
  • Complete a monthly travel multi-day adventure - Alaskan Cruise

Become a creator of shared, adventurous experiences of craftiness, creativity, learning, and community

  • Newsletter
  • Hobby Hunter series activity

Become a person who practices self-care daily

  • Molding Mobility 3x/wk
  • Daily steps (avg 4000)
  • Add 1 self-care practice to my journal per week
  • Read in Kindle

Become a person who believes in the vision of my future and makes my story come true

  • 1 item from list to in my  home office
  • Complete Will and share

For the above, this is what my actually commitments will look like.
Bring elements of adventure into life in big ways and small

  • Participate in a shared experience - 6
  • Complete a monthly travel multi-day adventure - 8

Become a person who believes in the vision of my future and makes my story come true

  • Complete Will and share - 2

Become a person who practices self-care daily

I haven't figured out how to handle what's going on at work, recovering from covid and just doing the things. I'm spending so much time trying to strategize, make things clear for people and simplify as much as possible. I just keep finding more to do, not less. I don't know how you take a big transition and boil it down into bite size pieces that are manageable and achievable. I'm taking all this in trying to make it SO SUPER easy for those that are affected, but taking it all in is weighing me down and I don't know how to get out from under the weight so that I'm not so burnt out I can't even enjoy my vacation.

I can't wait until I get to the part where I can start delegating. But that won't be until after I return sadly.

Weekly review and wrap-up

  • Gish ☑️
  • Newsletter ☑️
  • Hobby Hunter series activity ☑️
  • 1 shared experience per wk of Craft Lunch, Book Club, SF, etc. ☑️
  • 1 item from list to in home office - not this week
  • Complete a monthly travel multi-day adventure - not this week
  • Complete Will -  - debating now
  • Molding Mobility 3x/wk -
  • Daily steps (avg 4000) -  Only made 2,966 avg.
  • Add 1 self-care practice to my journal per week -
  • Read in Kindle - ☑️☑️☑️☑️☑️☑️☑️

So I did 5/9 tasks to success rate. And two are monthly, not weekly and those are up coming to do's.

I guess more than half counts for something...

I'm giving myself through this vacation to kind of decide who or what I want to be so that I can come back and say I'm going to be a person that gets up earlier and does some of this stuff in the morning, or I'm going to be a person who stays up later and does some of this stuff at night, or I'm going to a person who doesn't commit to so much stuff.

With some potential big changes still in my near future, I'm thinking it may have to be option 3 no matter what I want.  I just wish I could come back and see I'm going to a person who really is healthy and does my exercise stuff, but in spite of all the great advice here on Nerd Fitness I am just not that person yet.

Quick check-in to say I won't be checking-in until after my vacation, unless I'm so bored I need something to look at, or I see something so amazing that I can't wait to share.

More from me after the 14th.

Here's to coming back re:

  • freshed
  • cuperated
  • juvenated
  • and any other re words that would fit here.

Weekly review and wrap-up

  • Gish - N/A
  • Newsletter
  • Hobby Hunter series activity
  • 1 shared experience per wk of Craft Lunch, Book Club, SF, etc. ☑️☑️☑️☑️☑️☑️☑️
  • 1 item from list to in home office - N/A
  • Complete a monthly travel multi-day adventure - ☑️☑️☑️☑️☑️☑️☑️
  • Complete Will - I got it written and shared, but never got it signed... thankfully I made it home safe, but I still want to finish this
  • Molding Mobility 3x/wk -
  • Daily steps (avg 4000) - Finally made this goal, avg 8,920 steps for the vacation week
  • Add 1 self-care practice to my journal per week -
  • Read in Kindle - ☑️☑️☑️☑️☑️☑️☑️

With regards to coming back re:

  • freshed - travel days that are 22 hours long do not lead to feeling refreshed
  • cuperated - Definitely got some rest and recuperation, but I think I was so far in the hole it only just made a dent.
  • juvenated - there's something to the majesties of nature that makes this happen without even doing anything.

The vacation was wonderful, the travel not so much. But I guess it was worth it.  I'm starting to understand why first class might be worth the extra costs.

Good times with family, amazing weather, good excursions and great views. Can't ask for anything more.

So now I'm back and trying to get back into the rhythm of normal life. Wish me luck.

you hopefully won't see this for a bit, but have a great trip!  re-all the things

Also I had to look up GISH and that looks pretty cool.

Thank you!

GISH is awesome, I love doing it every year, I was so sad to not get to participate fully this year, but I still had fun. I only got one item done but it inspired me to learn more how to do it and get better and use it for gifts for the holidays. So that's always a win.

I was just debating even coming here to update, but I'm so glad I did, I loved learning about your storytelling.

For my week/update... I'm floating along and not in a good way. I haven't been focused on my goals at all. I want to clean up everything, but it's so hot and I get overwhelmed and don't know where to start, so I read and play Best Fiends instead.

My walking the last two days has barely broken 1000 steps.

I need to regroup, so I'll probably scale back for the rest of this challenge and try to decide what I need.

I kind of had the same slump.  Only did the bare minimum and that was simply because I had to walk the dog anyway so steps happened.  Somehow life has just been hard and I can't put any explanation than 'it just is.'

Last week regrouping and re-scaling buddies?

Also, do you have suggestions on where to learn more about journaling in general?  I'm rather taken by the idea of story journaling, and yes, I could just wing it, but having a small basis to work from can be helpful.

If you just want to look at pictures Instagram, search #naturejournaling or the variations of that #naturejournal, #naturesketch, #naturestudy, #urbansketching. Oh another good one would be #internationalnaturejournalingweek.

If you want more details, John Muir Laws and he has a YouTube channel with tons of video how-to's and Bethan at Journaling with Nature - she has a podcast I really enjoy and is also on YouTube. So pick your poison. I'm considering buying one of the books out there for that reason, sometimes it's just easier to have someone show me how first...

If you're into SketchNotes as a quick drawing style, John Muir Laws did a workshop on that style and there's an artist Kate Rutter who uses that style more.

You'll have to be creative to adapt it to storytelling, but I don't feel like that will be a huge leap for you.

  • Thanks 1
