Crazy neighbors are a wonderful thing...to leave behind.

Such a relief! The first couple of days in the new house Jaap would keep asking me "do you hear that?" and I'd say "no?" and he'd be all :D :D:D "me either".

It was not a good street for kids growing up. We have already let them play outside more (riding their bikes and rollerskating) more in the past week then we have the entire summer. With supervision of course, but that was not even an option in our ex-neighbourhood.

Wow, you are doing great at being a cargo bike mom! That's a lot of biking.

Thanks :) the real test is yet to come, so much rain!

Friday we had a homeschool group event, building things out of cardboard. It was too far to go by bike so no biking happened. I had planned to go to work in the evening by bike but I was attacked by a shark and Jaap offered to take my shift which I gratefully accepted.

Saturday Emma (my 5yo) had swimming class in the morning and I want to go by bike in the future, but I have to go to work after and I wouldn't be on time so that will take some different planning. In the afternoon we went to an event in our city about the history of the war with the Spanish. The cathedral was open and they had a choir singing which was really beautiful and actors telling tales of those times. Someone was demonstrating woodworking skills, there was a pig over a fire and a geese herder, a fire breathing demonstration and a falconer. Really good event, hopefully they'll repeat it.

Sunday there was a kettlebell competition which my team went to but I didn't go with them.. this was... difficult for me. Jaap really did not want me to go because of all the things we still have to do at the old house and also in the new house- and I think mostly that he has just felt really busy and this would have been one thing too many. So I had to respect his feelings about it by not going but.. well.. I did not like not going.

I had a biking win though- it was raining pretty heavily, but I went to work by bike anyway. Put on Jaap's rain gear, I'll have to get my own soon.

Oh on Saturday I did backsquats (3x35, 3x50, 2x60, 4x55, 6x50) and snatches (14kg, 20 sec work, 10 sec break x12). On Sunday I did KB jerks (2x14kg, 1:00 work, 1:00 break x9). Those squats were me testing the waters, had a spotter for the last three sets and went to complete failure on them.. it's not as bad as I feared, but still further away from where I was in June than I would have preferred. Jerks also weren't too bad, snatches are always bad.

Very psyched for you & your cargo bike! I see them all the time around the city. It sounds like you've also got great bike infrastructure in your area :D

We really do! So lucky with that :) it’s good for the kids too, i feel a lot more comfortable here to let my eldest ride her bike. Do you have/use a bike?

Monday was uneventful, didn’t leave the house much except to pick up the eldest which was really just 5 minutes by bike both ways.

Today, Tuesday, I went to work with the cargo bike so i could drop by the old house and pick up some stuff. On the way home I go past my brothers office and he spotted me and took a picture.

Then I took the eldest for a bike ride, she rode her bike and I was jogging/walking beside her. We ended up going 3km so quite a bit. Stopped on the way to pick some apples.
Picked up the youngest from daycare in the afternoon by bike again. Oh and I did 10 x 1:00 intervals of 12kg snatch with 30second breaks. I think I definitely got enough cardio today.

Yeah! I'm an adventure cyclist, and I spent a good chunk of last year touring. I'm settled down for now, but I still commute on my touring bike & ride a few days a week.

That's a fun picture, that plant looks really impressive as well :).

That is a lot of cardio if you do it on top of biking, well done!

It’s a good plant :) it didn’t like riding the bike very much though, it’ll need some loving care.

Wednesday I woke up with a cold gifted to me by my youngest. Took those little germ monsters to my moms by cargo bike and went on to work. Had a headache but with some ibuprofen made it through morning appointments. Scratched my original lifting plans and just did some pull-up work and some kettlebell deadlifts instead. Went home for a nap. Got my own bike fixed (saddle was broken) so I don’t have to keep stealing Jaap’s bike or ride the cargo bike without cargo. And then took said bike and some more ibuprofen to work for the evening shift. Pretty dead when I came back.

Thursday was thankfully no work apart from some admin things done from the kitchen table. Feeling awful with a face full of snot. Took the kids outside for two hours to a playground and foraging for chestnuts and acorns. No energy left for cooking so got some take out instead. Should do some cleaning up and laundry before bed but I probably won’t 😌

thank you very much! De-snotting brings to mind those little suck thingies they have for getting snot out of baby noses. Maybe I should get an adult version of that x)

Friday I went to work and back by bike, then went to the garden and back, then went to city centre and back and then for the evening shift to work and back again. A total of 95 minutes on the bike. Definitely feeling that in my legs. Plus the Bulgarian split squats I did in my mini all or something workout in the morning. (I did not yet know I would be on the bike that much at that point or I might have made different exercise choices 😋).

Saturday after work I went back to the old house because there is still stuff to be done. Was feeling a bit low and alone… but then the ex-neighbours started yelling and I felt much better x)

At around what age can kids start using sharp tools? Obv it'll depend on how coordinated they are but ballpark?

Their ability to focus is probably even more important than how coordinated they are. But I'd say under heavy supervision 3-4 years old. That's when I let Emma use kitchen knives. I think she was almost 5 when she got her pocket knife for sharpening sticks etc that she gets to use with less supervision, but it's a special kid version, less sharp. She can use the smallest knives now without supervision and she has recently started to use the stove by herself.

Sunday was work (by bike) and then cleaning and removing lamps/curtains etc at the old house until late at night. Got mcdonalds for me and my mom who came to help, I don't know why I can't seem to remember that its always a waste of money, blergh. Give me a year or so and I'll have forgotten that and somehow think it's a good idea to go get some. Ugh.

Today, Monday, I spend with the kids at home doing all the chores and unpacking stuff while Jaap was at the old house. Made two trips with the kids in the bike through the rain. We also made apple turnovers. I had to google the English name for those and then didn't trust the result, because.. apple turnovers, really? x)
