I think she was almost 5 when she got her pocket knife for sharpening sticks etc that she gets to use with less supervision, but it's a special kid version, less sharp. She can use the smallest knives now without supervision and she has recently started to use the stove by herself. Hah thanks for validating my opinion. I may or may not have upset some parents when I suggested giving kids a knife to open a package. 😆 1 Quote Link to comment

Oh yes, I think I'm the only one riding an old fashioned cargo bike.. and that's what we're saving up for. I don't know yet if we'll outfit this one with an electric kit (cheapest option) or if we'll try to buy second hand or maybe even something new since they resell so well. And I really like having the 'bak' in the front but my partner is eying a bike with a larger seat in the back that could hold 2 kid seats instead of just one.... they're far less charming, but cheaper. KB Girl
A week flew by.. Friday I turned in the keys to our old house, which was mostly a relief but also slightly emotional, we did live there for 12 years and had 2 kids and all the memories. On Saturday we had our powerlifting event 'max-day' (I promise it sounds better in dutch) which was fun, or gezellig as we would say. I always participate no matter what, last time I was 7 months pregnant and this time I hadn't deadlifted in 3 months and training was a bit lacklustre in general during the moving process. So basically it was an experiment in what happens when you just do a bit of maintenance work. Surprise surprise, you maintain I squatted 75kg, bench 50kg, deadlift 105kg which was mostly the same as the last time I tested approximately 6-7 months ago. I figured I'd take two rest days and then try to get back into serious training sessions, but alas today I feel a bit sick. I thought I'd just sweep the floor (the gym has quite a bit of floor) and see how I felt. And I feel like training would be unwise. Jaap was sick yesterday, so it figures. Biking is still going well, even went to swimming class by bike. 20 minutes on the way there and 30 on the way back, downhill/uphill. The way back felt like quite a workout Finished another page in my trainings log; Spoiler Lost my darkest orange pencil somewhere, so anything that isn't coloured in is meant to be dark orange.. x) I switched to no white space in september because training sessions would be short anyway due to moving. I really want to get back to full training sessions but I'm trying to be pleased that I did something a lot. 3 2 Quote KB Quest: becoming a decent kettlebell lifter and an excellent coach 2023 goals tracker; cycling: 1047,7/5000km & reading to my kids: 58/365 days (updated may 1st) my instagram - my gym's instagram Link to comment
Elastigirl
That's pretty good that you are at the point where you can maintain your powerlifting even when you aren't actively working it. Woot for biking to and from swimming! I still remember our first house. It was very small, and on a busy road. So, I was very ready to leave. But, it was kind of hard, and sometimes I still have this nostalgic missing of it. So many sweet memories of when my son was little! So, I totally get what you are saying about being happy to leave, but being slightly emotional. Kishi
Echoing that maintenance is cool! I'm not terribly familiar with your training journey, but it sounds like you're at a place where you're able to hold without even a lot of specific work, which sounds to me like you've got enough strength to lead the life you want to lead. What more can we ask for, really? Of course, if the answer is "More Strength!" then, well, I reckon you know what to do. :D Quote Work like a farmer, train like an athlete, fight like a soldier. 2 Tim. 2:3-6 BATTLE! Link to comment

I'm a bit jealous that you lifted more or less the same weights as me even though I trained for it specifically, but without training for it, but on the other hand you probably trained way more than me in previous years 😆. I'm glad we lifted on the same platform all the way though, it made it much more fun to me to have someone I knew in the same group . Can you believe that one of the powerlifters told me today that I should continue powerlifting and not do such nonsense as body-control training? 🙃 Your workout log is beautiful, it's really interesting to see your weights and "program" over all. It also gives me some insight about myself, mostly that even things like biking an hour per day is not trivial and that your weights are really reallty similar to mine . Your log is very pretty though, way prettier than mine . Quote Link to comment

KB Girl
The sickness from last week lasted a couple of days. We tested frequently, especially as we learned last Tuesday that both my mom and sister tested positive for covid, but our results remained negative. My sister was really not doing well for a while there (she has Addison's disease which does not mix well with any type of stress really) but she's all better now. My mom is still not great, but will probably be fine. Saturday I felt a lot better and did some back squats, but biking home I felt very drained and then the very sunny blue sky suddenly dumped a bunch of water on me and ugh. Sunday Jaap was also feeling a lot better and we went for a 90 minute walk through the woods with the girls. Monday we went to the garden by bike and did a bunch of work (so many things were neglected during the moving) and I was very much looking forward to getting back to serious training the next day (our nationals are coming up and I want to at least participate and also long term goals and this looong effing about has just been.. it's been alright, because it was the only option, but I am done with it and it has been frustrating!).. anyway... I woke up this morning and reached to grab something next to me and *pang* and now I can't move my neck. Can't look to the left at all and any movement hurts... so I cried a bunch out of pure frustration. Went to work. After class I put on my big girl panties and did some basic things that hurt minimally like Bulgarian split squats. Sigh. 4 Quote KB Quest: becoming a decent kettlebell lifter and an excellent coach 2023 goals tracker; cycling: 1047,7/5000km & reading to my kids: 58/365 days (updated may 1st) my instagram - my gym's instagram Link to comment

KB Girl
Ok challenge over- I wasn't here as much as would be ideal, but I don't feel like I dropped out either, so that's something. Wrap up! My challenge goals were; Quote As a cargo bike mom I will; - go everywhere with the kids by bike (also without the kids) - save up for a new cargo bike - make plans for dealing with rain and cold and flat tires As a newly moved mom I will try to re-establish some equilibrium by; - finding a new routine with help from my bujo - really plan trips to the garden (since they will take longer now) - go for 2 walks (or runs!) in the new neighbourhood every week - find a new routine for my training at the gym I think I did quite well with biking everywhere. Took the car a few times due to time constraints and while I was sickish, but otherwise went by bike even through the rain. I got myself rain gear and made sure the kids rain gear is easily accessible. We're looking at a new (and electric) cargo bike, but it's not an easy choice, the options are endless and the wallet is not bottomless. We did go for all the walks in the neighbourhood and I even went running twice, trips to the garden were made when there was time.. but training hasn't been great yet and I don't feel like we've settled in yet or found a 'routine' for all the things. We mostly need some rest really. But I'm hopeful! 4 Quote KB Quest: becoming a decent kettlebell lifter and an excellent coach 2023 goals tracker; cycling: 1047,7/5000km & reading to my kids: 58/365 days (updated may 1st) my instagram - my gym's instagram Link to comment
KB Girl
I want to make a new challenge but ever since my mom got sick we're missing out on 2 days a week of babysitting and I am soooo tired now. Jaap and I are working those days by taking turns watching the kids, but that leaves us much less free time and then we go to bed later because we do crave the free time and it's all not ideal. Also I spend a bunch of time with my mom at the doctors office. She's probably just got post-covid issues (shortness of breath etc) but since she's a heart patient they're extra careful so they made heart films and lung photos and blood draws for things. Just wanted to come complain here for a bit x) it'll all be fine. But I do want my 2 days a week of babysitting back. Also I would strongly prefer a super healthy mom. 1 1 Quote KB Quest: becoming a decent kettlebell lifter and an excellent coach 2023 goals tracker; cycling: 1047,7/5000km & reading to my kids: 58/365 days (updated may 1st) my instagram - my gym's instagram Link to comment
