This is like that thought experiment with the cat and the toxin inside a box. It only works as a thought experiment, because the moment you put it into reality it falls apart. For one, the cat will know if it's alive or dead. For another, good luck forcing the cat into the box. Similarly in this experiment - if you put bacon and candy in front of me, I will eat all of it. That said, as a thought experiment the logic is sound and goes a long way towards proving the relative worth of bacon over candy. Scaly Freak
Recover HP (physical health) Completed Day 22 of Square One. Restore Mana (Mental Health) Meditated to Breathe out the B.S Regenerate Stamina (emotional bandwidth) Spent a disproportionate amount of time on skin care, hair care, on sleeping in, and on fantasy football. Also went for a spontaneous evening walk with Husband and talked about things that had nothing to do with Happy Sidekick's health = a nice change of pace. After the walk, I went to catch up with my YouTube subs while doing my workout. As I was doing this, Happy Sidekick approached, carrying her favorite toy, and headbutted me with it. This means "play with me!" and this is the first time this has happened since she started being ill, so it made me very happy. and yes, I paused in my workout to play with her, because obviously. 8 Quote The Great Reading Thread of 2023 “I've always believed that failure is non-existent. Scaly Freak
So these last few days went off the rails. Happy Sidekick had a significant relapse on Sunday, including the part where she refused to drink water for, as far as we could tell, over 24 hours. So on Monday morning we were on the phone with the vet again, and they squeezed her in as a priority urgent appointment the same day. Another round subcutaneous fluids and anti-nausea injections later, we picked her back up along with a prescription for medication, and one for a specific type of "biome" food that will help her gastric system regrow its bacteria eco system. While that was happen there was also a communication breakdown between Happy Sidekick's two humans, which is another way of saying that some of those relationship struggles that we all have but that I typically never talk about here, were also happening in tandem with the dog thing, so we are working on that as well. Can we pause the adulting train please? I'd like to get off at the next station. 1 5 Quote The Great Reading Thread of 2023 “I've always believed that failure is non-existent. What is failure? Scaly Freak
Thank you, all of you. Every post you made helped. Happy Sidekick is doing much better. The second round of anti-diarrhea medications combined with the prescription probiotic food into a powerful two-hit combo against her illness, and both her general behavior and her stool indicates she is healing. We have orders from the vet to keep her on this new diet for two weeks, to really give her gastric system every opportunity to heal, before making any changes. We are fine with this, and relieved to see her begin to be herself again. The communication breakdown has been addressed and relocated to The Past. Adjustments are being made by both sides, in close coordination with the Other Human in both cases. All shall be well. We will make it so. And that is i-... No, wait. It's not. We adopted a kitten. 🐈⬛ Bouncy Sidekick is adorable and sweet and has enough energy to power the Enterprise holodeck all by himself. He's currently living alone in a spare room, so we can introduce him to the other pets slowly and gradually, when they're all ready for it. We take turns spending time with him, occasionally go in there together, and he's always happy to see us. We've been meaning to do this for a while, and were just waiting for the right kitten to come along. The timing is not entirely optimal, but we can and will make this work.
