Ugh, I hope the unemployment office gets their ducks in order so you can start getting your benefits

Thanks. Didn't really happen today. I'm hoping for tomorrow.

I managed to get ahold of someone at the unemployment office, and they confirmed that they have everything they need, but I have to do some kind of interview first before I start receiving benefits (I'm not sure why I have to do an interview, my documentation should be more than enough, but okay). So, they transferred me to a different line, where I proceeded to wait on hold for an hour before the call got disconnected. I called three more times throughout the day, but the line was so full that I couldn't even get on the call waiting list. So, I'll be calling them again tomorrow. I also got an email from the recruiter I talked to on Friday, and she wants to do a follow up call and asked me to let her know what time would be good today. I emailed her and let her know, but she never called or emailed me back. Hopefully I'll hear something tomorrow. I feel a bit "one step forward, one step back" today. I did manage to do 20 minutes of beat saber, but I haven't been to the grocery store in a few weeks and the idea of cooking made my head want to explode, so I picked up a pizza. At least I had points, so it was free.

So, lots happened in the last two weeks. I got a job offer and I accepted, and I start in a few weeks. I wasn't super excited at first. It's a big pay cut, and it's not really the job that I wanted. But I couldn't really turn it down either. And after giving it some thought for a few days, I think this will be good for me. I just need to give it a chance. I also managed to finally get ahold of someone at the unemployment office. I was hoping to at least get back pay for the month I was unemployed, but I'm not eligible. Also got another rejection for a short story, and I'm wondering if I need to just set it aside and focus on other projects. On the bright side, since I've been unemployed, I've had a chance to actually talk to my IRL friends, including one that I haven't talked to in a while. I took one friend out to lunch for her birthday, and I've talked to another friend a couple times on the phone. It's been nice. There has unfortunately not been much cooking or exercising, though my scale says that I've somehow lost 8 pounds. I'm not sure I trust it.

Congratulations on the job offer!  I hope it is a lot less toxic than your last place, because that place was beyond the pale

I was tired and stressing about all the things today (mostly things that I really had no reason to stress over, but I did it anyway), so I decided to do nothing, which only stressed me out even more, which just made me more tired. I hate this cycle.

Understandably unpleasant. Where is the exit? No one knows.

Yup, it's not a fun cycle.

Congratultions on your new job! I wouldn't worry too much about the "not doing"-cycle too much;  as soon as you'll start working the cycle'll probably be broken.

Thanks! :) And yeah, true.

Today I cleaned/cleaned out my fridge and part of my pantry. I've been avoiding it for a while, but I finally got it (mostly) done. Also did a load of laundry and went to the grocery store. I wanted to get boneless chicken thighs, but they didn't have them, so I grabbed chicken breasts instead. Hopefully I can still use them for this recipe. 😕 Anyway, that's about as far as I got today.

Congratulations on the job. Sucks that the pay is lower, but I'm really hoping for a non toxic environment.

Bummer about not having any boneless thighs.  Did the breast work out as a substitute?

Thanks, and eh, not really. My meat thermometer wasn't working right so I ended up overcooking it and it came out super dry.

Thanks, and me too. It's going to be hard, but I'm hoping the trade-off will be worth it.

Echoing! Sorry to hear about the pay cut, but having seen some of the horror stories, it sounds like this is a potentially net positive thing. And hopefully the pay cut is temporary.

Thanks. And yeah, that's what I'm hoping for.

Did not get much writing work done today, just found it hard to focus for some reason. I did play close to 20 minutes of beat saber and did some strength training for a few minutes. The dumbbell felt harder to lift today, but I made sure to at least get through half of my sets. Was also planning to cook today but didn't. It was a pretty quiet day otherwise, which was nice.

The lack of toxicity will. It might not be immediate or obvious, but it will.

The Great Reading Thread of 2023

“I've always believed that failure is non-existent. What is failure? You go to the end of the season, then you lose the Super Bowl. Is that failing? To most people, maybe. But when you're picking apart why you failed, and now you're learning from that, then is that really failing? I don't think so." - Kobe Bryant, 1978-2020. Rest in peace, great warrior.

Glad you got out of that hell which was your previous workplace

I hate when the meat thermometer is missing or not working when you need it. :(  No  one wants a dry breast.

Thanks. :)

Yeah, for sure. Of course, I remembered afterwards that I bought a new one, but I couldn't remember where I'd put it. I went looking and found it in my desk drawer of all places.

Well, yesterday was interesting. I woke up to a flooded backyard in the morning and have to admit, kind of freaked out a little. At first, I thought something had happened to my waterline, but I realized it was actually coming from my neighbor's house. I went over and talked to her (luckily, she was still home), and it turns out her husband had left the hose on all night, and neither of them noticed. She was able to turn it off no problem so thankfully no more water. It's going to take a few days for my yard to dry out, though. Anyway, after all that I managed to cook some breakfast (just some scrambled eggs with a banana and orange juice) and did beat saber for 10 minutes. I'm still having trouble focusing on writing stuff, I'm not sure what my problem is. I fiddled with a short story for a few minutes, but that's all I managed to do. I figured at that point it was a good time to read a book, which I did. Today was a little easier, focus-wise, but I still feel like I didn't get much done. I meant to cook today but didn't manage it. I did play 20 minutes of beat saber though.

LOL, yeah, for sure! I'm not quite sure how it ended up there.

Well, looks like I made it to the end of the challenge. Yay. :)  I didn't post every day, but I posted more often, so I'll call that a win. See you nerds in the next challenge. :)

That's definitely a win. Consistency is one heck of a challenge by itself. Hope you're able to hop in the new challenge soon!
