Sugar Steps and Swings: Tanktimus' Fall Challenge

I had my A1C checked for my upcoming physical on Tuesday, and it read 5.9, which is right in the middle of the pre-diabetes range. This happened two years ago after too much candy during the early days of the lock down, and it went away after I stopped eating candy and sweets. That's the plan again. I work as a hospital chaplain in a city with some of the worst diabetes rates in the nation. I see people living with dialysis, blindness, and amputations every day. That won't be me.

 

Steps is something I've made a priority recently. Last challenge my target was 6500 steps every day. In the process of writing this challenge I set my target to 7,000 steps per day. I had originally planned to keep increasing my target by 500 steps every challenge till I got to 10,000, till it was pointed out that is an arbitrary number set by the people who invented the first pedometer in Japan in the 60s. Somewhere between 7-8 thousand steps a day seems to be enough to get the benefit of a step-goal, so I'll probably go up to 8,000 and just keep it there.

 

Swings is about Kettlebells. I modified the NF Beginnner KB workout to something that works for me. Three rounds of:
8 halos each direction

10 squats (Bodyweight for now till I drop some pounds)

10 Overhead Press each arm

15 swings

8 Bent over Rows each arm

 

I also do the cooking in our house and write about it, so don't come to my thread hungry. I've been told my descriptions of dinner are hunger inducing.

I read your title as "sugar-steps". You know, as opposed to gentle sugar slopes. In any case, I am sure your meals will still be delicious and hunger inducing in readers. After all, bacon has no sugar. Or does it? oh... sometimes it does. Okay, well, lots of delicious things have no sugar. Olives, cheese, red wine reductions. Taco seasoning. Anyway, happy walking and swinging!

Some bacon does, I remember hearing people doing whole 30 bemoan how careful they had to be with bacon choices.

Today is a good day. I did not do swings. I am a bit stiff in my lower back on the left side, and decided to stretch. I have not been stretching consistently and I don't want to get down in my back. I did lots of posterior chain stuff and hip openers. I must have done something cause I had to put some tiger balm on it after my shower before getting ready for work. Lunch was good. I roasted some butternut squash with salt, pepper, garlic powder, smoked paprika, salt, pepper, olive oil and white wine vinegar. I also cooked some high quality ground beef in a skillet with salt and pepper, then added some spinach and wilted it, then some farro, then some hummus, then the squash. It was very good. I got my steps last night, hope to do the same today.

She did, and we needed the date night.

 

Today is a good day. I had a doctor's appointment, they are ok with my plan to deal with the A1C. They also asked I get a CT Scan to check for calcium in my coronary arteries. I have three risk factors, age, family history of heart disease, and weight. I'm ok with it. I got a long walk in (over two miles) and am at more than 10k steps. Dinner was good, but I'm on a time crunch and don't have time to describe it.
