For modern concept art and game art ArtStation is great. Or check the credits to find the artists. I bet there’s loads of art history channels on YT too that could give you ideas for names.

Thank you! And thank you for the recommendation! I'll have a dig on youtube, too.

Did single leg DB RDLs and art.

I tried collecting pictures of rocks with the idea I would do 5-10 studies in an hour. Ugh. Firstly, I only got three pictures done. Secondly, they were terrible pictures. I couldn't decide whether to paint or sketch. I thought rocks would be easy, but in fact they are difficult. I think discrete objects might be easier than landscape textures. I also started looking for classes on art history but nothing pops out. I don't want lectures on how to look at things, I want visual overviews of different styles.

It's got a bit of a repuation and I was worried it would be, um, gigantic anime breasts (with small ladies/anthropomorphised animals attached) but there are some nice things. There is a winzig sculpture of a black cat on a yellow chair on the front page, and I love it.

Maybe try Pinterest?  You can search things like Alice Neel and it will show her paintings mixed with similar ones and suggest related searches.   You can also make certain "boards" (albums or collections) private, so if you don't want people who follow you to see physique photos, they can't.

I do have a pinterest board! I just need some names or historical styles to feed it.

I can only assume the 'we don't link between the apps if you don't want us to' is in fact a lie.

Ah yes, I did tend to just follow the people I actually knew, and people they knew. It doesn't surprise me it's a lot of gigantic anime breasts though :D

Video appointment with doctor. Will go in tomorrow to test for legionella. Must generate sufficient urine to pee in cup. Quite tired and a bit nauseous now. Will catch up with you all soon but not just now--need a nap. Wish I could have a shower.

Did DB bent over rows and a small amount of art--maybe 1.5 hours, just watching critiques of forearms--before going to the doctor. Still counts.

Got tested for legionella, got vitamin injection, got a nose spray and tablets for the cold. And the doctor told me to try steam inhalation instead of salt water inhalation. She said the water can get trapped in my sinuses (absolutely true... it comes out later during the day, all in one go, when I move my head in a certain way) and can make things worse if there is already a infection because... stagnant pools of tepid water.

Feeling tired and a little nauseous. Eating might help but nothing seems appealing. Drinking more tea will probably make the nausea worse but will probably do it anyway because I'm addicted. Will put something in stomach first. Noodles? Wait, no, that's what I ate last time I was sick. I got hooked again, ate them every day for a week, and got my anxiety back. Potatoes maybe.

Ginger is good for nausea.  Could you make a ginger tea?

I could! I've heard it works but have never experienced it. The potatoes were successful though.

Did some DB reverse lunges and my art.

I sometimes feel like my art is getting worse, but I'm fairly sure that's because I'm trying to implement multiple things I've learned about gesture, form, anatomy, and shading. It's super hard to focus on them all at once, and actually results in me losing some of my intuitive line and gesture quality. I might need to pick mostly exercises that are a little bit challenging, instead of very challenging.

I can definitely see how taking on too many changes at once could be detrimental rather than helpful.  Maybe focus on one or two particular aspects for each piece?  Or attempt the same one a few times, each time with a different focus so you can see how it would apply to that situation without the other factors adding to the confusion?

Glad you went to the doctor, and super that you got several things done at once, saves more trips! When will you get the test results?

This might be too much work but could you do 2 sketches. The first one to focus on line and gesture. Then the second one more structured like your blocked out animals?

Both good ideas. I think I should drop all shading for the anatomy studies. They already incorporate gesture, structure and anatomy details. I just have to accept it's going to be a little ugly as focusing on the structure (which I need) interferes a little with my shape design, but I'll try to do both. Sometimes I do layers with different things: gesture first, then structure, then details.

I actually do this to some extent! On different layers. It's not too much work, I just need to be patient because you can't incorporate new skills when rushing, I guess. I suppose it's just going to take time to come together, like a sauce that starts out wet and lumpy. I'm not afraid of going through ugly phases any more, because something really just shifted gears in my brain and it's the process and the practice I want (of course I still like nice outcomes, but I can wait).

Thanks! It was all for the same thing--the six week cold! Results in a week they said, so maybe Wednesday. But if it's negative, they probably won't call at all. So I can just assume I don't have a legionella infection unless I'm notified otherwise.

Oh they give you a vitamin shot for that? Interesting!

Yeah it was less 'this will cure you!' and more 'do you want a vitamin shot? It might help.' Probably not a bad idea as cream currently makes up the majority of my calories.

Thank you, and for sure you can try again! I don't know if you're a beginner or more intermediate, but I know that painting as a beginner can be frustrating because there are so many skills to learn (observation, line quality, light and shading, colour, form/construction, composition, design, subject specific knowledge and medium specific knowledge). In particular, watercolour is a comparatively difficult medium to master, so it might be too difficult and distracting to use if you haven't got basic drawing skills. Acrylic or gouache would be easier, or drawing with any medium. In fact, for a beginner, drawing is probably the best. If you want to improve your skills we can troubleshoot together. Or if you just want to use art as a way to relax, then don't worry about any of that and just find a practice you enjoy!

Definitely just a beginner. And I'm sure I suck at drawing, lol. . . so that kinda sucks if I need to know how to draw in order to watercolor. Hahahaha. Loose watercoloring looks so easy. You just have to give the impression of a tree, lol, not actually know how to draw a tree. At least that's what one of the YouTube videos I watched implied, lol. But it all seriousness, yes, I would LOVE to troubleshoot together when I can give it the time it deserves. But for now,  I am swamped with work projects. But it is high on my list of priorities for next quarter as a way to step back from work and relax. So I will def touch base with you then. Thanks!!! <3

Oh, I mean you can definitely start painting. It might just be hard to get the results you want. Landscapes should be more forgiving, though.
