Silmarilliane's Thirtieth Challenge

Happy holiday seasons people! I'm going to run this challenge from 1st to 24th December, to go along with a walking/step county challenge at work, and also because I have been eating pretty badly since the last challenge finished...

Pretty sure I've got a bunch of overeaty days in the calendar in December, so I just need to work out a simple way to keep the exercise up and minimise the gorging! I'm going to go basic, and no two-day-in-a-row bonuses as it'll probably bum me out :D 

 

FOOD

  • Under 1600 calories for the day = 10pts
  • Overeating one meal = 5pts
  • Overeating dinner and then eating more for the sake of it = -10pts
  • Splurging all day for no reason = -20pts

Maximum = 240pts, expected ~100pts

 

SLEEP

  • No phone scrolling before bed = 10pts

Maximum = 240pts, expected 200pts

 

EXERCISE

  • Walking 2.5 miles per day = 10pts
  • Home workout/cycling = 5pts
  • Rolling five days with no extra exercise = -10pts

Maximum = 360pts, expected 250pts

 

To pass this challenge I need to get more than 500pts, which should be easy, but hopefully will keep me on track.

So, now for the overeaty days:

  • 1st Dec: meeting a friend for dinner
  • 2nd Dec: Team away day (going out for lunch)
  • 3rd Dec: Christmas concerts, so likely no tracking at all
  • 4th Dec: roast dinner at my parent's
  • 7th Dec: quartet Christmas dinner
  • 8th Dec: work Christmas party
  • 18th Dec: World Cup final
  • 21st Dec: Family pre-Christmas gift exchange and takeaway
  • 22nd Dec: IRL games (and obv will want a drink)
  • 24th Dec: hopefully traditional Christmas Eve curry!

A tough start to the challenge, and I'm sure more stuff will be added in, but I think it's manageable.

I love the idea of a Christmas Eve curry! Dave ate way too much curry during a deployment and won't eat it now, so I only really get it when he's away and I'm cooking for myself. 😅 I hope it's awesome!

It has become tradition! We used to sing Nine Lessons and Carols at around 6pm, then people from choir would go for curry/drinks before Midnight Mass (overeating and drinking helps hit the descants haha)

Oh it is VERY hard not to snack at home when you have been a snacky mcsnackface for the last few days. Staying strong though and holding out for my dinner this evening. Yuhmmy. Even managed a cycle today, to drop off some Christmas things my friend asked me to make, though haven't done any walking yet.

I love that you have this tradition. The older I get the more I love the deeply personalized traditions that we grow our celebrations into. They’re always unique and refreshing.

Time does fly when you're at a team away day (morning) and then have to catch up and do a day's work in an afternoon... But we did have a lovely Thai meal out, and although I had a few chocolates after, I'm planning on just having my 'lunch' (overnight oats) for dinner this evening to minimise overeatyness. I did have a burger and a Veggnog cocktail last night, both of which were yummy, but when I got home I did not eat a lindor chocolate even though they were right there and I wanted one.

Quicky update as I'm about to head into town to sing not one, but two Christmas Concerts 🎄💈🎶

I did manage to just have the porridge for dinner, but I did then have a few more biscuits, and when I got home I ate a few lindors while rolling my hair around a dressing gown belt (really is the best way to make my very straight hair curly!)

I'm not convinced I'll get much actual walking in today - I'm trekking an urn into town for the mulled wine and so definitely going to bus/tube as much as I can. If I could be arsed to get a pedometer I'm sure it would count all the running around setting up but 🤷‍♀️

My hair is also super straight and dry or wet setting with curlers/rags/socks/whatever is the only way to make it curl, too. I hope your curls turned out beautifully!

 

The pedometer is interesting to have and I suspect you walk a lot in a day just from how busy you seem to be in your reports. :D

Yeah, my hair is that kind of hair that gets flatter and thinner in humidity! They did thanks, and lasted all day 🙌

Haha, yeah I do a lot 😅 though I think from my upbringing it's what I think is normal!

Quick update as about to watch the footballs. Concerts yesterday went really well, amazing fun and actually performing in front of people for Christmas for the first time since 2019! I don't think I actually ate that much seeing as I was running around most of the day, but a couple of beers after and the type of food probably meant I ate over calories. I don't think I did overeating for the sake of it so much so will just go with 0pts rather than -10. I was a bit adrenalined when I got home so stayed up a bit catching up on socials and concert chat and then read before bed. I said quick update right? 😅

Only a couple of miles actually walking though, so that wasn't successful, ah well.

It's crazy easy and comes out so nicely (at least in my hair!) - you can also use a pair of leggings, and then pull the waist bit over your head so it all stays in place while you're asleep! Just make sure to either partially dry it or set it early in the evening, as otherwise it'll still be wet when you take it out and be a bit meh!

Absolutely zero walking yesterday! Drove to my folks for pre-Christmas roast dinner with my other half, as he's heading to Oz a week before Christmas. I ate far too much food (nut roast, roast veg, yule log and Christmas pudding), and also had lindor for both breakfast and pre-bed snack. Oops. I might count out how many I have left and limit myself to [days ÷ lindors remaining] per day, otherwise every day I overeat I will probably just chug through them. After so many days overeaty, I feel a bit bleh today, but have already had to walk nearly 4miles this morning to and from an appt and am staying within 1600 calories today. Also I have to do some extra exercise today or I'll miss my 5 day rolling without exercise as I definitely can't tomorrow as I'm on site!

*Seems depressingly low at the moment but I knew it was going to be a tough start!

He is not, but his brother (and family) live there. I have only been once before, in 2018, and it was Jan/Feb so also very hot... possibly hotter than it will be in December/January. Which part are you from? I'm heading to Sydney :)

Felt much more normal yesterday after the actual exercise (walking and bike ride) and staying in calories. I'm on site today and so have had some chocolates, but they're in my calorie allowance so that's fine. Next overeaty is quartet Christmas dinner tomorrow evening!

Feel like I'm coming down with something. Meh. Office yesterday and calorie counting, walking and the like. Looking forward to my quartet dinner this evening, which is a vegan place that includes SQUASHAGE ROLLS (full festive menu in spoiler window), and I've crocheted them some little Christmas presents so will post photos of those tomorrow!
