Oh, nice! I did read that purrs have a frequency thought to promote tissue healing but it never occurred to me to get recordings. Do recordings vibrate as much as a real cat? Or would you have to, like, put headphones on the body part in need of healing and turn the volume up?

I have no expertise in the healing powers of cats' purrs and Youtube gives me all kinds of frequencies for "healing music" but that half of them are "for cats" may explain that. Unless someone more expert than I am states the opposite, the way sound works and all other things being equal, a recording should work as well as a real cat. We're not in a lab and cats aren't perfect spheres in a vacuum, so the recording would show artifacts that hinder the powers it may have, this should be a small effect and most of the properties of the purr should remain.

 

I do expect that the actual petting and just the sheer cuteness of cats participates in the process too, though, so radios should not be ready to replace real cats just yet.

The act of petting a cat has actually been shown in studies to improve health and reduce stress. Petting a dog does as well, as does a hug from a loved one.  It's almost as if we humans are social creatures who need physical affection to thrive, or something. Very strange.

I do have a therapeutic cat. She's chonky and orange and the softest soft in the world. She's so soft she makes other cats seem hard and hairy, like terriers. She likes to sleep on my stomach.

And because it's been a while since there were kitten pictures, I'm also posting this proof that if you're worried about your cat climbing your Christmas tree, you can simply buy an artificial tree, and then your cat won't be interested in climbing it.

Yes, that is the Feisty Sidekick, sitting shamelessly right there on the tree branch and studying the big chandelier ornament. No doubt he is trying to figure out how to pounce on the The Sparkly Thing without falling out of the tree in the process. (Husband removed Feisty Sidekick from the tree right after I took this picture. No ornaments were harmed in the making of this memory.)

He must be lightweight if Christmas tree branches can hold him! Or it's a sturdy tree.
