Wow ... can you really feed them everything?  I usually do worm composting, but I have to be careful about what I can give the little guys.

Pretty much, yeah. I don't usually give them meat, but you could as long as you don't overdo it (for adults. Peeps are a firm no on the meat). Basically if it fits in the beak, they are good to go.

But, I do leave food, especially the "plate-filler" fries.

Good for you! I have such a hard time leaving fries on the plate. Not out of guilt, I just love them so!

How's this week treating you?

How's this week treating you?

It ended up being an interesting week.  I came down with something cold-like and  my vision blurred ...  ALOT.  Gave it a couple of days after I apparently recovered, but the vision in one eye didn't return to normal. It was so blurry that I couldn't read, which is a no-go for a professor.

When I went to the optometrist, my blood pressure was very elevated.  Nothing else seemed to be wrong, and so I went to my doctor and am now on blood pressure medication.  Normally,  my labs and blood pressure are great, and so this is a bit of a surprise.  In fact, I've had one day on the meds, and my blood pressure is textbook perfect (and vision is pretty much back to normal) .... we'll see what the results are after a month.

I'm blaming it on stress.  Retiring, moving, new grandson on the way ... and after multiple mental health crises amongst students last semester, I way beyond ready to get out of teaching after this coming semester is done in May.

We showed our house to one of my husband's co-workers.  Their family is growing, and they are looking for something in this size.  If we didn't have to list it and put up with the showings, that would be awesome.

On the challenge front:

  • Been doing well with points in WW.  Blue and green dots all the way!!!  And, with the diuretic medication, I've lost 3 pounds so far.
  • I have been getting exercise daily.  If nothing else, I get in a walk.  My running pace is down to 4 mph!!  And my lat pulldown max is 3 x 82.5

So, I am happy with my efforts and the results.  I'm within a couple pounds of being "normal" weight, and I really hope that - after I retire - I can get off blood pressure medication again.

Meanwhile .... I'm off to try some new pottery glazing combinations.

Well done on reaching your challenge goals in spite of the cold and blood pressure issues. Here's to hoping for good news and no more bp meds!

That was an interesting week! Glad the issue was quickly resolved. Did you take any medicine when you were sick? Some of those can raise your blood pressure, and maybe you had a reaction to it. Decongestants especially can do this.

Yeap.  I got ill with some sort of respiratory illness at the end of the semester and was taking decongestants and ibuprofen for a couple of weeks.    When  I got an eye infection on top of it all, and ended up with blurred vision, that became a big problem.

So, we'll see what the future brings.  At the moment, my blood pressure is great.  Although I got a bit lightheaded at the end of the winter "bootcamp" fitness session yesterday.  By the time I was doing kickboxing, I was pretty darn tired and had to take some breaks.  I've been fine at Pound and yoga classes.  Walking and even jogging up stairs has been no issue.  But I haven't tried CrossFit or running yet and think I need to be a bit careful to avoid getting dizzy at the wrong time .... like when a bar is over my head.

Efforts have been great:

  • I have been staying within WW Points limits, and my weight is almost to goal!!  Since I dropped two pounds immediately after starting medication, I'm going to work toward goal - 2 pounds for a buffer.
  • I have been getting in some intentional exercise daily.

After yesterday's boot camp reboot, I'm pretty stiff and will take today a bit easy.  Maybe just walking or elliptical and do some rolling afterwards.

And tomorrow, it's back to the classroom for me.  Praying for a semester without drama.  No cheating.  No student mental health crises.

End of Challenge Wrap Up

My blood pressure meds were a combination of lisinopril and a diuretic, which started to edge my potassium levels down.  I didn't feel well and got increasingly light-headed, crampy, achey, etc...   My doctor has taken me off the diuretic, yea!!  And at the same dose of lisinopril, I'm feeling much better.

WW Points: I went over budget + buffer 5 times in 39 days.  Off the diuretic, my weight bumped up a pound, but I'm happy with 150 and change.  I want to keep that steady and build up muscle next challenge.

Exercise: I got in some sort of intentional movement 37 out of the last 39 days!!  I was feeling pretty rubbish for more than a week, but I walked a mile those days.

Students have been typical.  So far, nothing dramatic .... a little boredom would not be amiss.

And .... I have a grandson!!  Joey was born this afternoon.  My daughter and her son are doing well.  Son in law was relaying news all day today.
