It's so pretty!!! Ranger Hal Posted Monday at 04:49 PM Author Report Share Posted Monday at 04:49 PM Week 5, Sunday 1) Workout: Went hiking 2) Sleep: actually went to bed just after 11pm! 3) Hydrate: over 1.5L There's a local mountain hike that's used a lot for training, and the standard time for minimum fitness in the local mountaineering groups is usually 2 hours to a spot near the top. For my basic mountaineering class, we had to do it carrying a pack that was 20% of our weight. For me, that was around 27 lb. For the intermediate class (which I haven't taken), it's a flat 35 lb. I decided to see where I'm at, so I tried it with 36 lb in my pack and I did it in 2 hours and 1 minute! I feel strong and powerful! Now I just have to maintain this for the next couple of months and I'll be in good shape for climbs this year. I think a lot of it was getting out on hikes and snowshoes most weeks in the last month. I wish there was a way to tell how much the almost daily workouts are helping. Or if there are workouts that would be more effective. Most of the mountaineering specific workout programs I've seen either take a huge amount of time or involve things I don't want to do right now like running (or both). And I'm not at the point of being able to cobble together my own workout program from the pieces I like. So I'll just carry on since it seems to be working!
