I haven’t heard food described this way, but it resonated deep within when I read it.

I found a picture of it.  Quite aggressive.

Tuesday - 6/6 goals

Nothing spectacular happened.  I ate my usual lunch and had the batch cooked stir fry for dinner.  There was cookies and a small bag of Doritos and I felt gross afterwards.  I got really tired in the evening and was sore from our Sunday walk so I really didn't want to do any fitnessing but I made myself do 20 minutes on Ringfit.   It wasn't much but it was something and that's more than nothing.   I forgot to check the stats at the end to see how many squats and other movements I did but it seemed like enough to count it as a strength day too.

Wednesday - 6/6 goals met

I don't know how I managed to get all 6 goals.  I didn't tidy but as an afterthought I tagged an item for purging.  I didn't *actually* purge it as it's a stuffed Christmas decoration and the dog would just chew it up.  But it's mentally tagged and no longer mine.   And overall I wouldn't count it as an overly successful day but I guess I did at least technically hit all 6 daily goals.

I didn't do any fitnessing as I ran an errand with Peach after work and then was just tired and lazy.  But I had to box up all the items from the work food and clothing drive and it was more work than I expected.  So I counted it as my daily movement.

I had planned to have more stir fry for dinner but I had forgotten about a belated holiday lunch with my boss and coworkers.  We went out for lunch, which triggers another life hack.  🌟There have been so many already this challenge and I'm honestly tired of them and this makes me want to just give up and eat what I want.  That's precisely what we're trying to avoid!  😲  So here we go..

Uh...uh... I really struggled with this one....

Ditch the Fries

Eat Only Half

I hadn't really decided how to approach this one.  I debated ordering a salad with some soup but it was a new place and I don't want to try a new restaurant and not really give the menu a try.   So I went with the fire chicken sandwich but instead of fries I ordered the side soup.  The soup of the day was loaded potato and that is one of my favorites.  I ate the soup first and let me tell you that was the best potato soup I've ever tried.  I have to go again and slow down and bit and try to figure out what's different about it so I can recreate it.  3 of us at the table (out of 8 ) ordered the fire chicken sandwich and we all gasped when it arrived.  It was huge!  It was a standard sized brioche hamburger bun with the thickest and juiciest piece of fried chicken spilling out from all over, and covered in swiss cheese and bacon!   I decided to cut it in half and just eat half.  Except, It.Was.So.Delicious.  And fried.  You can't just take that home and reheat it and expect it to be as good.  That would be a shame.  And it wasn't as filling as it looked like it would be.  So I started on the 2nd half and then was committed to finishing.  I don't regret picking up that 2nd half but I did regret finishing it.  Alas, I was stuffed so I wasn't as hungry for dinner.  We just had a light dinner with some fruit and chips.

Overall, ditching the fries is rated 8/10.  It was successful but only works if there is a suitable choice on the menu.  In this case it worked but replacing fries with sad overcooked mushy vegetables won't due.  Eat only Half is rated 4/10 due to difficulty.   I think it probably works quite well if you can actually follow through with it.  It would work better if I were sharing.

I usually choose broccoli if they have it. It's really hard to make broccoli inedible, although a couple places tried :D   I used to order applesauce but sometimes I'd get pie filling, and I'm like "Are y'all okay?"

Eating half is a good strategy too. That chicken sandwich sounds good, and I'd probably finish it too. I feel like you're working out what is gonna be sustainable for you in the long run. Like, you checked in with yourself halfway through, so you're not eating mindlessly, and you're still caring for yourself.  That's pretty darn great :)

I’d have to disagree on the broccoli situation. At home it might be easy to make them but out at restaurants I’d venture they struggle to make them remotely edible. I mean, they can’t even do applesauce.

Thursday - 4/6 goals met

The only think I remember from Thursday was that DDG and I drove an hour to have dinner out with Luigi.  He picked a BBQ place.  I knew the BBQ would be good because the place was an absolute dive.

🌟Eating out triggers a Life Hack.   I reused a recent hack and Skip the Fries Sides.   I'm a sucker for burnt ends and almost got the burnt end sandwich, which comes with a side.  I would have grabbed fries or some other potato side.  But then I found the BBQ baked potato.  I subbed in the burnt ends for the other meat options and it didn't come with a side.  It was a perfect portion and probably the best BBQ potato I've ever had.

Friday - 5/6 goals met

I didn't make any time to tidy anything.  I was just happy it was Friday and work was done for the week.  I did make time to play RingFit.  I counted 20 minutes of playtime as cardio and checked off a strength workout for the week.

🌟Friday night is usually pizza night and that triggers a Life Hack.  Since there was so much eating out last week my life hack was:  Just Don't Do it.  So we just skipped pizza night.    Instead I had a little bit of turkey smoked sausage and some chicken breakfast sausage links so I used some pasta in the pantry and made a cheese sauce with whatever cheese was around, havarti, sharp cheddar, and a little bit of parmesan, and made some mac and cheese.  I threw in some of the leftover broccoli into mine just for some veg.  The cheese sauce broke and I thought it was awful but both DDG and Qbert were unphased and enjoyed it.  Overall Just Don't Do it is rated 7/10.  It's extremely effective but can't be used excessively.  I need pizza.

Saturday - 3/6 goals met

Peach and I had a date day so I failed half my goals.   But it was a fantastic day.  I got up early (for me) to see Qbert off.  His dad drove him back to campus.  Once he left, Peach and I were off for our day.  We stopped to buy her a laptop.  She saved up the tiniest bit of money and then has been saving up some birthday money from her granddad.  She did have to enlist both her dad and I to some extra funds but she saved money on researching and finding a sale.  We were going to get pedicures after and then brunch but we spent too much time waiting for help for the laptop so we decided to brunch first.  It was a new place and it was an excellent brunch.  🌟And another life hack.  It's brunch, and a new place so I didn't really feel like making any accommodations.  I ended up going with Order Light(ish).  I had trouble deciding on what to get so in a Life Hack effort I tried to pick the most balanced option.  The pancakes with fruit looked absolutely delish but is really just a plate full of carbs that I'd drizzle liquid carbs so I went for the breakfast sandwich and a side of crispy potatoes.  It seemed like less food overall than the huge plate of pancakes and it had some protein.  They make their own english muffins and white cheddar aioli.  I chose bacon as my protein and had the egg over medium.  It was aboslutely delish.  The crispy potatoes seemed like smashed potatoes and had all kinds of crispy corners and edges.  I ate the whole sandwich but only about half the potatoses, and I ate the orange slices used as garnish.  Peach got the fried chicken sandwhich and I had one bite.  We also ordered the churro french toast but decided to order it to go because we always want to try something else but are always full by then.   They were breaded in cornflakes and pan fried and came with chocolate syrup, maple syrup, and a caramel whip. The pieces were pretty small so we dug into 1 piece and shared most of it.  The rest we took home and ate as an afternoon snack with strawberries.  It was 11% better with strawberries.    Peahc left brunch stuffed, I felt pretty comfortable.

Then we were off to pedicures.  Peach got swindled into getting shellac nails so it ended up costing $15 more than we intended.  My flip flops broke so after the pedicure we decided to stop at a shoe store to spend more money unexpectedly.   I found some sandals and found I had a bogo coupon so I also bought a pair of casual slip ons.  Peach wanted some stupid expensive socks.  it's a day out so why not.   I always manage to spend a ton of money when I'm out with Peach.   We finished our date with the new Whitney Houston movie and finally made it home.  Since I handled brunch well, I was hungry for dinner as usual but have zero recollection of what we had.

Sunday - 6/6 goals met.

Sunday was a back to normal low key day.  I slept in a little and then lingered in bed for most of the morning.  By the time we got up we were famished and opted for quick and easy PBJs for lunch and some baked cheetos.  I made a quick fruit salad with some strawberries, grapes, and a mandarin orange mixed with some vanilla greek yogurt and some cool whip.   The rest of the day was spent being lazy on the couch and it was glorious.  We had talked earlier in the week about going out for a walk Sunday but then Sunday neither of us mentioned it because we didn't want to leave the house or do anything.

Dinner was a crispy ginger beef with green beans and I used up the leftover cabbage and steamed broccoli and carrots to make some egg rolls with some ground chicken.

Week 2 summary

Daily reading continues to be the only goal at 100%.  I missed fasting only 1 day, missed starting the day with water 1 day,  and getting a freggy in 1 day.   Move daily missed twice and tidying missed 3 times.  I'm not disappointed.  It was a busy week and it's a pretty good baseline.

Batch cooking and meal planning was a success.  To be fair it was pretty easy since I ate out 4 times last week.   And I managed to even lose 1 pound last week despite all the eating out.

I only got 40/150 minutes of cardio in.  Even with the extra from last week I didn't hit the goal.  Strength happened twice and stretching only once.  Missing the stretching goal gets me the most.  I could have easily worked in some yoga on Sunday.

Next week's meal planning is done with the exception of Saturday.  I usually leave that open for impulse cooking.  Last night's crispy ginger beef with green beans and egg rolls should last about 2 more days and we have one night out to eat planned.  But there's also a food day at work on that same day.  Still, week 3 shouldn't be as challenging as week 2.

Monday - 5/6 goals met

I didn't get any dedicated movement.  I got home from work and did some tidying and then some extra tidying.  I even tackled a box of junk I have moved around and let haunt me for at least a year.  It is now gone  Poof!  But I was tired after that and didn't have the energy or motivation for any fitnessing.  I suppose I could have just done some stretching or 5 minutes of anything to count but I just didn't think of it.  It was all or nothing.  Note to self, come up with some strategies.

Dinner was leftover crispy ginger beef and green beans over rice and egg rolls reheated in the air fryer.  It was even better than the day before but the leftovers aren't going to last as long as I expected.  Luckily there is some ground chicken leftover from the egg rolls and DDG is now brainstorming leftover ideas.

Tuesday - 3/6 goals met 😲

We had dinner plans for Wednesday with DDGs mom and sister but there was some weather coming so we moved it up a night.  Actually, we ended up moving dinner with his sister up a night and dinner with his mom to next week.  So this one planned dinner out became two.  We went to a place that one of their other sister's used to own but recently sold.  We wanted to see what had changed.  Sadly, the menu had changed.  There were more limited options.  DDG and I decided on the pizza and it was amazingly mediocre.  🌟 Dinner out triggers a Life Hack but I had absolutely nothing up my sleeve.  Ordering pizza didn't help.   It's one thing to stop eating regular food when you feel satisfied but the threshold for pizza is more about how much more can I handle before I die?   I did stop short of that but then suggested Dairy Queen on the way home.

I hadn't originally planned for dinner to be out so I was less careful about getting in a freggy.  I did fast until lunch but then had a bunch of Oreos after lunch which left no room for freggies.  We got home pretty late so we vegged on the couch a bit before bed.  No tidying and no fitness.

Wednesday - 6/6 goals met

🌟Another flipping Life Hack.   If anything, this goal has highlighted the frequency I participate in things that get in the way of my goals.  But that's life right?  Yesterday was a food day at work.  It was Taco Wednesday.  I brought in my same sausage nacho cheese dip that I made over Christmas.  My strategy:

Stick to the Basics

I figured if I could at least hold out for my 15 hour fast and start the day with a freggy, then that limits the amount of bad food I can eat.   I made it 14-1/2 hours out of 15 and I called that close enough.  I was genuinely hungry.  I had a banana.  And then I had some of my nacho dip with chips and was full quickly.  But it was a weird food day as everyone was paranoid about the impending snowmageddon (that wasn't really that bad).  So food was hot and ready to go by 10 or so and many had packed up their goodies by 11 so that they could leave at the first sign of a snowflake.    Regardless of not being that hungry, around 10:30 I made a couple small tacos and ate them while they were hot.  Someone had brought in some decadent bakery brownies and they were one of the few things that stayed out all day.  Luckily they were cut small but I think I ate a metric ton of them over the course of the afternoon.  Overall I'd rate this Life Hack 7/10.  It's effectiveness is limited but it's a good start.

I wasn't terribly hungry at dinner so DDG and I decided to save the leftovers and have something light.  I fried up some bacon and 2 eggs and essentially made us each a small breakfast quesadilla.  I made myself a decent sized fruit salad with strawberries, grapes, and a clementine and mixed it up with some vanilla green yogurt and some cool whip that needs to get used up.  It was tasty.  I also made sure that I got some fitnessing in and played Ringfit for 30 minutes.

Week 3 check in

Peach had surgery Friday.  It was expected and planned and has been my primary focus since my last update.  Everything else was pretty much put on hold.   Surgery was super early Friday and she had the stay the night.  I stayed at the hospital with her and she finally got to home around 5pm Saturday afternoon.   We were up extremely early Friday morning and sleep Friday night was negligible since I had the most uncomfortable hospital couch to sleep on and the non stop night time interruptions.   Every night since we've been home I've waken up every 3 hours (at minimum) to get her meds, ice packs, or whatever else she needs.  I've pretty much just been on survival mode.

-However I did start every day last week with water, including the hospital days and weekend.

-I fasted 5 of 7 days.  The lack of sleep is really messing with my appetite so I've been hungry early on in the day. Not to mention I didn't want to eat in front of Peach since she can only have liquids for the next 6 weeks so I tried to time my food around her too.

-I missed freggies on one day earlier in the week when we went out to eat but found ways to incorporate freggies while staying at the hospital and having them around the house over the weekend for snacks.

-Move daily goal has been more difficult.  4/7.  Friday I was able to walk a couple laps around the hospital floor but Saturday there wasn't much of an opportunity and then I was so beat by the time we got home I did just what was needed.

-Read goal 7/7.  I got plenty of reading done in the hospital during her surgery and while she slept during the day. I finished the 2nd book in my trilogy and started the 3rd book.

-Tidy goal obviously took a hit since I wasn't home for 2 days.  4/7 days met.

Fitnessing was rough this week too.  I only got 1 session each of cardio, stretching, and strength before Friday and then only got that hospital walk in since.  45 minutes of cardio beats week 2 though so that's a win.

Week 4 Prep

Meal plans are prepared.  I wanted to batch cook something ridiculously easy given the circumstances but wanted to avoid making something Peach really likes.  Tacos were out.  I made some chicken thighs with a Boursin cheese sauce and paired with instant mashed potatoes and tinned green beans.  It was very good and should cover a few nights this week.  We have 1 dinner out planned leaving a pizza night and a leftover night to fill in.

Monday - 5/6 goals met.

I didn't fast.  I was hungry and eating was the right thing to do.  It's just my body saying 'hey, we have no energy.  FEED us!'   I'm pretty sure I had fruit for breakfast anyway but I don't remember anymore.  I worked from home most of the day but had to run in to the office for an in person meeting that I couldn't move.   I was able to eat lunch at home.  I just love having access to the kitchen for work from home lunches.  I can make whatever inspires me and eat it fresh.  I used up some Panera sourdough bread that Peach brought home but can't eat and I made a grilled cheese with bacon, cheddar, and havarti cheese.  I ate some grapes with it.  Dinner was chicken thighs started in a pan and finished in the oven.  In the pan I added some chicken broth and Boursin cheese to melt and thicken.  Then added the chicken back until they were properly  acquainted.    Served over instant mashed potatoes with a side of green beans.  Killer dinner and barely any work.

Tuesday - 5/6 6/6  goals met.

I missed the move goal but it was the first day of class and I always get extra steps in and it just makes for a busier day.  In retrospect, I'm counting it knowing that if I had my Fitbit my calories burned would have been high enough to count.  I had to run into the office again but this time in the morning.  My boss moved a meeting from Monday so I could wfh but she just moved it to Tuesday.  I wasn't about to ask her to move it again.  She hates wfh as it is.  But I went back home to finish the day there and was able to make lunch.  I used up the last of the egg roll wrappers and made a crispy egg roll wrapper pizza for DDG and I to share.  Yum Yum Yum.  Dinner was leftover Boursin chicken.   It was the first day of class and I was not looking forward to it since I am definitely running low on spoons.   Luckily, Monday night Peach was able to take care of one of her middle of the night meds so I got to sleep a little longer uninterrupted.  It's amazing the difference it makes.

Wednesday - 5/6 goals met

Was able to work from home the entire day.  I met all the goals except for daily movement.  I'm still being lazy and catching up on sleep.   Peach is slowly getting better and I'm no longer needing to get up at night to help with meds.  There are a lot of milkshakes being made in the household.  I made a banana milkshake for DDG and I to share and a vanilla for Peach.  I love banana milkshakes.  And I got a freggy in.  I really got in a few but that was my favorite.  I also stopped at the store and bought her 4 more flavors of ice cream for some variety in her diet.

🌟 DDG and I had dinner plans out with his mom.  This triggered another Life Hack.  We went to the same place I had gone out to eat with the folks at work.  I debated trying other things that sounded good but I ended up getting the same Fire Chicken as last time.  The soup of the day was sadly not the one I loved from my last visit so I opted for fries.  For my Life Hack strategy I opted for

The 8 Fry Rule.

I like to save the best part of the meal for last so that I leave the meal with that flavor rather than any of the others.  When I get burgers and fries, the burger is the star.  But when I save it for last I often find I'm stuffed half way through.  I don't want to neglect half of my burger for fries when I'm really after the burger.  So the 8 Fry Rule is at sounds.  I start with just 8 fries.  Then eat the burger.  If I'm still hungry I'm more likely to make smart decisions while picking away at the fries than at a burger.  Overall, this is successful 9/10.  The only room for improvement really is that it doesn't help when the burger is too much.  But that's a problem for another day.

Peach and I hung out once I was home from dinner.  She wanted to watch some Gilmore Girls.  She devilishly picked the episode where Rory goes off to college.  At the end she declared that we both made it without crying.  She was wrong.  😪  (Why are the emojis broken?)

Thursday - 6/6 goals met

Back to work in the office and it was a busy day running from meeting to meeting.  And they were actual meetings in person and not just calls so I was up and away from my desk a lot.  I also had class so there were enough steps to count for movement for the day.  I was totally beat by the time I got home from class.  I checked in with Peach and then crashed on the couch.  We were out of leftovers so for dinner I whipped up some pappardelle carbonara and made some garlic bread out of the last of the Panera sourdough bread.  It was amazing and amazingly simple.

Friday - 4/6 goals met.

Still no daily movement and no fitnessing.  I no longer really have an excuse either.  No tidying Friday either.  🌟It was pizza night so it's time for another Life Hack.  Despite really wanting to stuff my face with pizza, we opted for

Pre-Portioned

Totino's pizzas are a great choice.  They are pre portioned into a a smallish pizza so there's no way to over eat.  Every time I sit down with one though I get a little sad, thinking it's not going to be enough.  But every time I get to the end and realize I am sufficiently, if not just a tiny bit overly, full.  10/10.  Would recommend.

Saturday - 4/6 goals met.

I missed the exact same goals as Friday.  Peach wanted to hang out so we watched Muriel's Wedding and then binge watched more Gilmore Girls.  Dinner was a one pot chili mac as I was trying to come up with new things I could make for her that she could puree and eat.  She's craving savory meals and this one with the spot.   I made her french toast for breakfast too  We cut off the crust and let it soak up a lot of the custard mix and then she doused it in syrup.  She was in heaven.

Sunday - 5/6 goals met.

Still no fitnessing but I did get some tidying done and put a few things in the donation pile.   I slept in a very healthy amount and just had PBJ for lunch.  I'm doing a lot of extra cooking for Peach and I wanted something easy.  Dinner was ridiculously easy.  I put sliced potatoes in a crock pot, covered them with browned lean hamburger and garlic, then taco seasoning, cheddar cheese soup, and piles of shredded cheese.  It was called Crock pot  beefy potato taco casserole.  That's a weird and long name.  I prefer to call it Irish Taco Hotdish.  Rolls off the tongue much better.
