All right, back to regular updates:

Song of Rest

Did not get any guitar time in yesterday, but did get 15 minutes of piano in. Unit 8 is minor keys, so I'm loving it.  And that puts me at 35/35 for piano week 1.

Sadly lagging behind on trombone, mostly because my mom's been sick and there's little less restful than listening to someone trying to get their embouchure back. She's up and about today, so going to shoot for a good trombone session in a bit. Also planning to find my dad's guitar today.

Bardic Inspiration

This post puts me at 5/5 for week 1.

College of Valor

Did workout C yesterday. 3/16

5x5 Squats at 38 pounds. Amazing what a difference 5 pounds makes. Going to stay here for the next squat day.

5x5 OHP at 23 pounds. Borderline whether to add weight or not here. I can only add in 5lb increments, at least for now. Think I'm going to add next time but may have to back off for the last couple sets.

Circuit: 2x10 Bent Over Rows at 11.5 pounds, 2x10 Glute Bridges at 5 pounds, 2x10 Tucked Hanging Leg Raise. The bridges and leg raises were good, going to add weight for the rows.

Could get a workout in today, but tomorrow is looking good as well and I've already gotten 3 in this week, so I'm going to take today as a rest day.

College of Glamour

Started chapter 5 of the Sacred Enneagram last night. Going to work on finishing it today and maybe double back over some stuff for an extra think.

All right, I don't have my tracker with me, but we'll see how I do from memory. I'll post a full Week One report tonight when I have my numbers in front of me.

Song of Rest

Got my dad's guitar out and it really did seem easier to hit Dm on it (not to be confused with easy, but easier.)  In comparing the two, though, I don't think the action is the problem, I'm pretty sure my grandpap just had really heavy strings on his guitar. And it's my guitar now and I can change the strings if I want to...but I think I'll just play my dad's guitar for now and revisit the Guild later.

Played my trombone on Saturday for ~15 minutes. Could have kept going a little longer as I wasn't completely dead, but decided I'll probably make more progress if I aim for consistent little chunks instead of marathon sessions.

Bardic Inspiration

Didn't hang out much on the forums this weekend, but already hit my goal during the week.

College of Valor
Did Workout D yesterday, 4/16

5x5 Deadlift at 50 pounds. Felt good, going to add weight next time. Didn't get my form video made, but things felt like they were clicking into place.  I know with dumbbells I had to be careful not to let the weight drift off my shins, but that doesn't seem to be such an issue with the barbell.

5x5 Chinups - only got 4 on my first (unassisted) set. Did the rest assisted. I also did deadlift first this time, I was thinking of alternating which exercise I start with, but now I think I'm just going to stick with chinups first as deadlift doesn't appear to be as affected by going second.

Circuit: 2x10 Lunges (23lbs) Pushups, Jackknives. I almost died at the end, it was great. Not going to change anything here.

College of Glamour
Didn't quite finish chapter 5, but did make more progress and went back to mull over the 3 section a bit longer.

Hahaha,    "Brass ensembles for the ailing."    Yeah, that album never sold, eh?

Hadn't thought about the strings being the issue - when I got mine set up, they got me some nice beginner friendly strings and I love them.

Nice job on week one!

I mean, I thought it was a masterpiece, but being escorted out of the hospital put a damper on preorders. Turns out there is such a thing as bad publicity.

The final numbers for Week 1, as promised:

Song of Rest

Piano 35/35 = 100%

Guitar 32/35 = 91%

Trombone 15/60 = 25%

Doing well on the strings. A bit of room for improvement in the brass section, though, to say the least.

Bardic Inspiration

5/5 = 100%

College of Valor

4/16 - right on pace. Would actually be fine if I got 3 workouts/week for the rest of the challenge, but if I get the chance to squeeze a fourth in, I will just to give myself a little wiggle room.

College of Glamour
Not quite through chapter 5 of Sacred Enneagram, which is technically a bit behind schedule, but the point isn't to rush through the book just to finish it, so I'm feeling pretty good about this.

How you doing today AP? x

Hey Sal, thanks for the poke!

So, as often happens, I followed too many threads this challenge and have completely overwhelmed myself, so sorry that I haven't been keeping up with your threads. My mom's still not completely better, which has been this underlying source of stress all week that hasn't been pleasant. But despite that I'm not doing too terribly.

Song of Rest

At 15 minutes each on piano and guitar. Spent some time just plucking the melody on guitar when I couldn't keep up with fingerpicking chords, and it was nice how quickly the frets/strings of the various notes came back. Also got 23 trombone minutes in one session, so that's coming along well.

Bardic Inspiration

Clearly haven't been keeping up here, but I did post Monday and am back today, so that puts me at 2/5.

College of Valor

Did Workout A on Tuesday. Not going to add weight on either squats or OHP, but I'm closer than I thought I would be on both. Staggered RDL felt awkward, but the second set went better than the first, so I think it's just a matter of getting used to it. 5/16 for the challenge.

College of Glamour

Haven't gotten a lot of book reading done, but did have an interesting discussion with @Asha Phoenix about the Enneagram based on a blog post she shared.

I tried to make myself a goal of, reading others then posting in my own this time around.    But sometimes, I also just say, "I will read 2 persons threads today, and two next time."      Haha, but yeah, keep up with what you can how you can.  No stress.

Thanks, guys! I'm going to try to catch up with everyone at some point this week, but between stress and hormones I just wasn't up to it this past week.

So, good news/bad news. My mom has pneumonia, which is obviously bad news, but she finally went to the doctor and got a diagnosis and antibiotics, so hopefully will start to get better soon and I can stop crafting doomsday scenarios in my head, which is good news. Also being in charge of the kitchen lately has reaffirmed that I like cooking and am actually pretty good at it. I was starting to doubt my kitchen skills since I've been so out of practice lately, but I'm once again very excited about having my own kitchen hopefully sometime this year. (The kitchen issue is about 68% of the reason I'm building myself an apartment. My mom and I get along very well for the most part, but that woman is insanely territorial when it comes to her kitchen.)

Despite less than stellar circumstances, Week 2 was not awful:

Song of Rest

Piano - 30/35 86% - making good progress in my primary book and, because I remembered I had it, also spent some time in my Alfred's theory book.

Guitar - 35/35 100% - fingerpicking is still difficult, but I'm getting better at it.

Trombone - 45/60 75% - still not quite where I'd like to be, but I got this time done in two chunks, and feel like my dynamics and all are getting better.

Bardic Inspiration

2/5 - 40%. Not great, but I haven't completely disappeared, which is something.

College of Valor

Got 2 workouts done, so at 6/16 for the challenge. Really wish I would have gotten 3 in, but to steal from @sylph's scale, shit happens.

College of Glamour

Have progressed in Sacred Enneagram and he's now discussing contemplative practices, which I love, even though I don't always make time to incorporate them into my life.

Heh, I don't have a ton of room to talk myself, wonder why the two of us find ourselves butting heads? I like to tell her, nature or nurture, I got this from you!

She has perked up considerably already, thanks!

Week 3 is going decently:

Song of Rest

No piano yet, but 5 minutes of guitar time and 15 minutes of trombone time so far.

Bardic Inspiration

Here for the second time this week, so 2/5, and have started to catch up on some other threads.

College of Valor

Did not feel like working out yesterday but told myself if I did the two main lifts, I could skip the circuit. Squats and OHP weren't bad, and I decided to do the rows, then ended up doing glute bridges as well, so really all I skipped was the hanging leg raise, and I might have even done that, but my pull up bar is in my bedroom and my weights are in the basement, and that just seemed like an insurmountable obstacle at the time. 7/16

College of Glamour

Almost done with chapter 7.

In non-challenge related news, I didn't have to work on Monday and the weather was decent, so I got the framing done on my apartment! Still have to finish framing the lean-to, but steadily eking out progress.

I'm also having a bit of a work conundrum (sorry for the repeat, discord folks!), in that l love my job when I'm busy, but there are a lot of days that I don't have much, if anything, to do. There's an opening in the Magistrate's office that I'm considering applying for, which should be higher engagement and is also higher pay. The only thing really holding me back from applying at the moment is that my department has such a good working environment and I hesitate to risk giving that up. Meeting up with a friend on Friday who is in the know with other departments, so going to see what she's heard about the Magistrate's office and get her opinion on whether it's a good bet or not.

Sounds like a good compromise mixed with the pleasure of doing more than minimum you set out to do. Big win! :D

Thanks! She said that people seem to really like being at the Magistrate's Office, so I'm going to go ahead and apply. I'm not sure what my chances are of getting it, but since I do like my current department, it means I'm in the best position to either get a better job or stick with the one I have.

Week 3 - my mom is on the mend but continues to have very low energy, so I'm still out of my normal routine with her not being up to our normal division of labor. But that really hasn't slowed me down much.

Song of Rest

I got 35 minutes each on piano and guitar, so that's 100% on each. I took a bit of a break from Into the West on guitar since I was starting to feel a bit frustrated, and it turns out when I don't play songs with Dm, I can fingerpick pretty well. And I am making progress on Dm, just not as fast as I would like. Came up just a tad short on trombone at 55/60, but that's still huge progress and I'm starting to get my full range back.

Bardic Inspiration

This continues to be the weak point of this challenge, which is okay because it's mostly here to facilitate my other goals, and as long as I'm doing well there, this one can slip a bit. 3/5 - 60%

College of Valor

I got three workouts in this week, putting me at 9/16 for the challenge. I did back to back workouts on Friday and Saturday to set me up better for my schedule this week, which felt ok as I was doing it, but I was sore today. I'm ready to add weight on both squats and OHP and still consistently adding weight to deadlifts. Trying something new with my chinups and instead of doing 5x5 and going assisted to finish my sets, I'm just doing 5xAMAP unassisted. Friday I got 4/3/3/3/2

College of Glamour

Almost done with chapter 8 of the Sacred Enneagram, and had some interesting discussions with some friends at church. My next spiritual direction meeting is Friday, which I'm looking forward to.
