When we got orders to Japan, we had to give up our pets because they were missing immunizations that needed to be administered several months apart and we didn't have time. The alternative was leaving them in quarantine for a year. We had less than six months notice, so it was a bit more drastic than your situation, and islands are notoriously more strict because they can literally keep diseases from entering the country, but I would at least do your homework now, so you know what to expect and can start the process, if necessary. With as much time as you have, you can easily avoid that heartache 💔 PS - I love the colorful dice! Thanks for this, Ever. I had Dave look into it and there is no pre-immunizations required and we would have 12 months to get Sax’s shots to their standards once he is there. There also is no quarantine requirements, which eases my heart considerably. So the only medical thing I really need to be concerned about is whether or not we can get his anti-anxiety meds over there or if we somehow have to fill three years of them here and bring them with us… Gods, I hope not. They are $125 a month; three years in advance would be a nightmare to have to find the cash for… I am sorry you had to give up your pets. That is so hard. ❤️ Hugs for you. I prefer spiral bound for my gaming books so they take up less footprint on the table so this will be useful. And 1/3 the price is no joke; my last Archer and Olive book cost me ~$70 with shipping. Which is objectively absurd for a bound block of paper. Even good paper. I wonder if I should start binding my own sometimes, and then realize that I probably don’t need another hobby. Thanks! I didn’t know that about the sugar tax, that is interesting. I am the opposite of you and only drink zero sugar pop; on a very rare occasion I will have a full sugar soda, usually for flavours I will never ever see zero sugar such as birch beer or dandelion and burdock cola (like a root beer but better), that kind of thing. That said, I am not drinking nearly as much pop of any kind lately as I had been, which is interesting to me. I am not consciously cutting back on it either, it just seems to be tapering off. Hi Friends! I made a new to me recipe for keto chicken divan casserole yesterday for my work lunches for this week and I was/am very skeptical about it. I had the first portion of it last night for supper and more than anything it was *bland* and also had a lot of homogenous texture to it. Casseroles are not a regular part of my cooking repertoire so this is new territory for me. I don’t hate it, but don’t love it either, and I am not sure how it will last the week. I might make it again because the protein is quite high, but I’d tweak the seasoning pretty hard. I guess the original recipe is made with canned soup for the sauce which is completely foreign to me, but is apparently something that is more common in American cooking. I am learning things and learning is good. I had to fast after work yesterday so that I could go to bloodwork and an ECG this morning. This is regular stuff for me to monitor my meds and all that. I had a very sweet student nurse do my blood draw and ECG. The blood draw was flawless which really impressed me. The ECG took a bit more work, but we got there in the end. I was a half hour late getting to work, but thankfully it just cut into the “putter around the shop” time and not our actual hours of operation. I played Animal Crossing instead of doing my Tarot first thing this morning, which was good for reminding me I wasn’t allowed to have coffee, but bad because now I will need to do it tonight and we have company coming for supper. Dave is in Lloyd today picking up our lobsters because we are are having steak and lobster tonight! He brought the steaks home yesterday before I left for work so we seasoned them and they rested overnight in the fridge. Should be delicious. The steaks are massive so I will probably have leftovers if I expect to eat lobster and veggies too. I had an egg salad sandwich and a danish with my coffee from Jack’s for breakfast, a treat after having to fast for 12 hours. Thankfully the rest of the day’s food should keep me in my carb range for the day after such tasty treats this morning. I feel like I am really struggling to eat to plan with Dave home. My routine feels so off because my habit stacking that I use when he is gone gets disrupted which makes me feel more disorganized. I am actually doing better than I anticipated I would with him home, it just feels weird because it’s not the timings I am used to when he is gone and there are more snacks involved. I am exercising some willpower with snacks, but I am not as on point as I could be. This is really good practice for when he’s home for the summer come April. I am grateful I get a few more months of ingraining my habits before I have to contend with that, though. We were laughing about it yesterday because I was out of sorts and he asked me what was wrong. I replied “I love you, but you are throwing off my groove.” He grinned and said he was sorry and that I had to deal. He was right. I really admire people who can stick to a nutritional plan when other people in their households are doing different things. It’s a feat. I haven’t made my step goal in a few days and today isn’t looking good for it either. Trying to give myself grace this week, but also don’t want to give up completely because it means I am setting the conditions to not meet my goals when Dave is back for the summer. He needs to get used to me doing these things as much as I need to keep doing them. He’s very supportive, in a “you can do it as long as I don’t have to change what I am doing” kind of way. Which should be good enough if I can muster my resolve. I hope you are all cared for and cozy today. If you celebrate, Happy Valentine’s Day! I feel so much better off grains (they really aggravate my arthritis) but pizza is so hard to satisfactorily duplicate and even harder to resist. *sigh* Because Dave is gone so often (and eating sub par rations or canteen food while away) I often ceed the floor to him on dinner decisions so he can eat what he enjoys while he is home. That is usually tasty foods, but not necessarily healthy foods. We smarten up when he is home for a stretch though, so this summer won’t be too bad. Mostly BBQ meat and veggies, which suits me just fine. We eat dinners together because Dave doesn’t cook much and certainly won’t often cook for just himself, having cereal or chips or something. If we cook together it’s healthy food and *gasp* he even eats a vegetable. Hi Friends! Oh my goodness, we had such a wonderful meal last night! And almost everything was ready at the same time, which was a minor miracle. I am always very happy when dishes complete around the same time as each other and aren’t strung out getting to the table. Nicole and Bryon joined us and we had fun cracking open the lobsters and laughing at each other’s efforts. The steak was perfect and I expected that - Dave is a master on the BBQ. For a wonder I didn’t over eat and was comfortable the whole night. That is not true for Nic, who ate to overflowing and is apparently still feeling it today. I feel bad for her, but she keeps reminding me that she could have stopped eating and didn’t. Dave ate my leftover steak for lunch today with the rest of the mushrooms and Brussel’s sprouts and we will divide the remaining steak for supper with a salad. A picture of my feast because I couldn’t resist taking one: I also had a humongous piece of a very lacklustre strawberry shortcake. I should have stopped eating it when I realized it wasn’t as excellent as everything else I had eaten, but my sweets compulsion kicked in and I polished it off. This is part of the reason it is better for me to stay away from sweet baked things entirely; I just don’t modulate myself well with them. But all in all it was a wonderful night. Dave also surprised me with the Tree Rex STL and says he has it printing on the resin printer right now. It will be done sometime tomorrow. I have wanted the Tree Rex (and the other dino trees) for, like, a year now, so I was very touched that he remembered and got them for me. I will have to wait until he’s home in April to get the rest of the Dino trees printed, but that is okay. I can paint the Tree Rex in the meantime. I decided to do a half hour walk on the treadmill this morning before work. That felt really good as I haven‘t prioritized my walking since Dave got home. I am currently at ~4500 steps for the day, and I might do another half hour after work depending on how I am feeling. I eventually want to get to a point where I am doing a half hour before and after work reliably. I wasn’t super motivated to walk this morning but then realized there was no reason *not* to, so I did it. That is new logic for me and I am glad to see it. I did the last 14 minutes at 3.0, too, and that went well, so I think I can step up to that speed reliably now. It’s snowing so I think the shop is going to be quiet today. Dave found two maps in a horde while we were playing 2e on Sunday and wants me to actually draw them out for him now so I might work on that for a while today. Should I post them here for you to see? I want to hang out with people today and feel a little stuck at the shop. I hope the forum is busy so I can read posts here to feel like I have some company. I've always wanted to have the experience of living overseas. It helps that many people speak English there and much of the chaos of moving would be smoothed by army protocols. The biggest challenge is Saxon and how we would need to manage him getting him there and once over there. And crossing our fingers that whomever rents our house here doesn't trash it while we are gone. But logistics aside, I think I'd enjoy myself. I have friends in France, Germany, and Scotland that I would love to see more often, and being in Europe for a few years would make that easier for that time. And Dave assures me that there's practically no chance of him ending up fighting in Ukraine or of Putin going into Latvia with all of the battalions stationed there, so the security part of things seems assured, as much as it can be. It does mean another three years of unemployment which will leave another gap on my resume, but really, we both knew I was never going to have a grown up job after we got posted out here. Thankfully Dave makes enough money for us to do what we need to do and my minimum wage-ness supplements that. Latvia is also a circumstance where many of our costs of living would be covered, so financially it's an excellent decision. I would miss my family and friends, but we are fairly remote now so I see people rarely as it is and rely on Facebook and phone calls to maintain relationships. My biggest social challenge would be running my D&D game with the time change because I'm not giving that up. Hi Friends! Slow going at the shop today and I'm a little down at the prospect of Dave leaving tomorrow. Trying to perk my mood up by working on my new Bujo and game prep for tomorrow. Had a nice "sweet" breakfast this morning of unsweetened Greek yogurt, various seeds and ground flax, and a blueberry cinnamon compote I made last night. It was quite tasty and very filling. Lunch was my chicken casserole thing. Supper will be spaghetti with gluten free noodles. I had my days mixed up yesterday and started browning onions and garlic for the sauce before Dave asked me what I was doing. It was confusing at first when I realized it wasn't Thursday, but then it was funny. We are adding a new player to the Friday night game and he came into the store today to confirm timelines and such with me. I'm excited to see what he's like at the table. He seems excited, too, which is nice. I don't know him well but Bryon and Dave do (he's also Army) and have vouched for him. Hopefully it's a good fit. Got my steps in yesterday and did the wrap up math for January and I have a deficiency of ~36k steps to be on track for my 2,023,000 step goal for the year. I'm behind on February's steps already, too. Really need to be more consistent if I want to hit this goal! Otherwise not much to say. It's very simple: ~2 cups blueberries (I had a largish container and just dumped it in), water to barely cover the fruit, 1 teaspoon cinnamon (or to taste), and ~2 tablespoons honey. You can use white sugar or the sweetner of your choice or omit it completely, up to you. I used my Bourbon Hot Honey, which is a subtle but lovely vibe in the whole thing. Simmer on medium until the fruit starts to break up, then mash with a potato masher or fork. Continue to simmer until you get to a viscosity you like. Know that it will get a bit thicker as it finishes cooling. It's not very sweet, but I prefer it that way. Sovalis
Hi Friends! I'm trying to think myself out of a minor case of the blues. Dropped Dave off at work at 4 am. Managed to fall back asleep for a few hours, but my whole morning has been off. I'm at the shop now and got here on time, which is the important thing. I took a quick walk to the local crystal shop which is about a block and a half from work and treated myself to a polished orange calcite and a small blue lace agate "cave". It's full of tiny sparkles and makes my inner magpie happy. I recognize that I went out and spent money to cheer myself up, but at least I'm not eatingy feelings? I feel like that's something of a win. Not much going on today. Had a yogurt parfait and a small cinnamon brioche from Jack's for breakfast because I was running too late to make my smoothie and drink it before leaving the house. Have my chicken divan and some veggies for lunch. Supper will be zucchini noodles and leftover spaghetti sauce from last night. Game tonight at 7; have quite a bit of work to do to get it sorted out in my head. Going to try to get some steps in as I go. Hope you all have a moment of inspiration today. Sovalis
Hi Friends! Mood is a bit better today. Still wanting to spend money to perk myself up so I went and bought groceries to make this Copycat Zuppa Toscana Soup for next week’s lunches. While I was there I bought some pens to use with my notebooks and their colours made me smile. One of them is a quiet blue-grey and I think that it might end up being the colour I paint my bedroom. We will see. I am definitely feeling the need to respawn now that I am on my own again. This morning it was hard to get up the gumption to make breakfast despite having plenty of time. So I went for groceries and then bought myself a bowl of homemade roasted tomato soup from Jack’s. Not a traditional breakfast, but it was warming and tasty. Didn’t really achieve my macro goals, but *shrug*. Can’t win ‘em all. I do want to start winning again, though. I feel like I was doing really well with my food and movement goals and I want that groove back. I think the chicken divan that I made isn’t something I will make again. I have three portions still to eat and it it’s just hard to face. I don’t want to waste the food, but I am not into the idea of finishing them. This rarely happens for me and I feel minority conflicted about it. It’s probably not that big of a deal, just seems amplified in my brain right now. Game went pretty well last night despite me being quite tired. The God of Passage is missing and now I need to figure out where he went and what, if anything, can be done about it. Fun times. Other than that, not much to report! Super excited to have a day off tomorrow. Going to be a chill in my pajamas day for sure! Hope you are all well and have a pleasant dream tonight. Thanks for being here. ❤️ 6 Quote Past Challenges: #1, #2, #3, #4, #5, #6, #7, #8, #9 Current Challenge: #10 Link to comment

Hope Dave got off safe and sound ❤️ How long is he away with work this time? Loads of love to you - here for you xx Thanks, Sal. ❤️ He’s gone until ~April 5th this time, as long as nothing changes. And then should be home until mid-August, we think. He will be in the field here for most of May and some of June, but at least we might see each other once every few days during that time. 3 Quote Past Challenges: #1, #2, #3, #4, #5, #6, #7, #8, #9 Current Challenge: #10 Link to comment

Does he have to go away a lot? He's going to be away for a number of months this year over various trips and taskings. We just did the first stretch from beginning of January to last week. Now he's gone until early April, then he's in the field for Maple Resolve which is usually another 4-6 weeks from May to June. And then as far as we know he heads back to Latvia mid-August until early October. It's been like this for the past two years, and the year before that he was gone for 11 months. Hopefully next year things will slow down a bit. It's hard to know what to expect though, especially as the situation in Ukraine evolves. Hi Friends! It's a lazy pajama day here, as planned. I've spent all day chilling. Played a tiny bit of video games and then started working on game prep because it's been challenging lately. That's been productive, which is a relief. I've focused on eating good meals instead of junk today and that's been a good decision, too. Had Greek yogurt and seeds and blueberry cinnamon compote for breakfast, gumbo with nutritional yeast and some Laughing Cow cheese for lunch, and I'll have something healthy for supper soon. Maybe zucchini noodles and leftover spaghetti sauce if my zucchini are still good. Haven't walked yet, but I should do that. Hope you're all as delightfully chill as I am! Thanks for being here! 💛🧡 6 Quote Past Challenges: #1, #2, #3, #4, #5, #6, #7, #8, #9 Current Challenge: #10 Link to comment
