shaar
Howdyyyy friends and adventurers, I am BACK - for another challenge that I may or may not finish ahaha, as that seems to be the trend with me lately... :3 But yes, HELLO THERE! I am shaar, TL;DR old timer forum member from jeez I can't even remember how far back that, as of the past couple of years, has struggled to maintain a presence and get my shit together. The past year and a half for me has been nothing short of a frickin' Yee Haw Chaos Rodeo - I won't go into the sordid details here but I've endured a LOT of personal trauma and grief and struggle, since spawning various mental and physical issues that I'm doing my best to maintain. 2022 was the worst year of all of my years of being ALIVE and it burned me out, harrrrddddd. But I’ve been kind to myself, had a lot of support, I learned a lot, and somehow I’ve come out on the other side of the darkest part of my timeline, still here. 2022 was my soft year, because I needed it to heal mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. For 2023 I’m ready to push a little harder and start taking care of myself physically again. I’m ready to throw myself full tilt - CAREFULLY - into my fitness again, and this time do it the smart way. I’m 42 now and I’m learning that what I was able to do in my 20s and 30s for workouts is waaaaay different than what my body needs now. My days of pushing heavy lifting and PRs consistently are definitely not serving me these days; I’m finding myself fatigued easier, a little more injury prone, and struggling with what I used to be able to do. And I’m certain that all of this is a combination of - aging! - lingering effects of covid! - recovering after lots of trauma! - and I’m sure even more shit that I’m not even aware of! HOORAY! (actual footage of me getting out of bed in the morning ahahahahahaha help) I’m also struggling with being present on the forums. I’ve fallen off a lot over the past year and frankly it just doesn’t feel the -same- to me here; I hedged on even posting a challenge here because of it but I wanted to give it yet another big ol’ try because I’ve been here for SO FRICKIN LONG. It just doesn’t feel the same but also pretty much everything in my life isn’t the same anymore HA HA so potentially it’s just me??? At any rate, I’m going to do my best to be here. (read; learn to adapt shaar you dingus) On that note, my challenge goals are going to be about mostly, ADAPTING. I'm keeping it simple but here goes: 1. Gym 2-3x a week, depending on how I am feeling. LISTEN. TO YOUR BODY. DUDE. My gym consistency has actually been great for the past 2 months but again, I'm struggling with What I Used to Be Able To Do vs What I Can Do Now and it's frankly a hard pill to swallow. I have some lingering injury in my right shoulder and suddenly, a new challenger appears!, over the past 4 or 5 months my left hamstring and glute have been acting Very Uncool. I need to be mindful of what I can do, and not push myself to broken skeleton limits. Changing the way I train is going to be a big ongoing task for me this year! 2. Following up on that, STRETCH MORE. Mobility more. Target these crabby body parts with some consistency, because I know it helps and it will be good for me in the long run, obvs. I spend most days Pretty Achy and, while again I'm sure it's a combination of things I have yet to fully delve into yet, I don't like it. I'm aiming to do one day of yoga and one day of targeted stretching and mobility each week. I do not understand WHY this is so hard I mean instead of sitting on the fucking couch watching Meteor Garden I can howl around on the foam roller and still watch Meteor Garden while I'm doing it so ????? C'mon self. C'mon. ( to no one's surprise, i have been binge watching yet more k-dramas lately...) 3. Keep drinking less. I've been doing REALLY WELL with this since January!! Alcohol was a Very Bad Coping Mechanism for me last year and it got to the point where I was overdoing it way more than usual to numb myself out of my misery life. I've managed to cut back to about half of what I was drinking and it's been hard but SO good for me. I feel better mentally and physically; alcohol can REALLY affect me physically lately with a lot of inflammation issues and I need to keep this in mind and keep staying the course. I'll allow myself a drink or two on either Friday or Saturday and THAT'S IT. No drinking on work days or nights before (sunday - wednesday) and no drinking the days before scheduled gym days (thursday). I've packed on about 10 pounds over the past year and I KNOWWWW this is a big part of it. Those are my big 3!, there's other stuff I'm working on in the background like trying to find a new part time job that doesn't make me want to hurtle myself into the sun and work better on keeping my personal organizer straight so I don't forget to Pay a Bill or something dumb (not that that's happened mind you but i have become very SCATTERBRAINED LATELY) so uhhhhh yeah. I'll do my best to update at least every other day - my work days can be chaotic and somewhat rage-inducing SO WE WILL SEE how many spoons I have on those days......... 🙃 Anyways that's me!!! Hello old friends!!! And hello new friends!!! ❤️ Let us, DO THE THING, the best we can!!! 10 2 Quote i am not waiting for a hero. i saved myself long ago. shaar
Haaaaiii friends! Quick lunchtime work update - updates might be scarce Mondays through Wednesdays cause these are my hella busy days right now and time is SCARCE This week has been a little bit of a strugglebus, we’ve been dealing with some kind of Non Covid Sickness since the weekend and workouts have slowed to a halt. I am being kind to myself and realizing shit happens but UGH is it frustrating when you’re really trying to keep things on a schedule. So far today I’ve been feeling ok though and hope to be able to handle a light workout after work….. 🤞🤞 I didn’t stretch last night like I planned to because I felt like Dog Ass so I just came home and collapsed on the couch to catch up on The Last of Us. My body needed the rest tho cause I slept like a BRICK No alcohol since Saturday!! YEEEAAAHHHH keep the streak ALIVEEEEEE Ok time to go heat up my lunch I am STARVING! I batch cook our work lunches every Sunday and this week is - Korean-style sloppy joes with rice and green onions. It is one of my FAVORITTTEEE lunches to make…. :3 More later!! 🖤 6 Quote i am not waiting for a hero. i saved myself long ago. I NEED TO BATCH COOK LUNCH damn it. xx I have no earthly idea how I got into the habit of batch cooking but I've been doing it pretty religiously since I lived in North Carolina and it's a butt saver for SURE. I'll batch cook about half of our lunches for the week so we can kinda wing it for the others, or have leftovers, or something different for variety, but it's so good to be able to wake up in the morning and just grab a tupperware from the fridge and not even have to think about lunch! GOOD MEOWNING FRIENDS My work week is officially OVER until Monday and phew am I glad. I've been very busy and fighting off some kind of non-covid plague so it's been a strugglebus. Also Ao has been on call this week for emergencies so there's always the stress as we are falling asleep of IS THE PHONE GONNA RING??? Which gratefully hasn't happened too much thanks to warmer temperatures... I am mixing up my schedule and heading to the gym today because tomorrow is supposed to hit 50F (!!!) so I'd like to try and head outside for a walk somewhere!! Temperatures have been wildin out this winter, over the weekend it got down to -6F and now 50F... something something global warming..... hmmmmmmmmmm..... ANYWAY I am feeling good about this week! No alcohol cravings and I'm very confident this goal will be smooth sailing through the weekend. ^^ (Lowered stress levels helps this one OBVS).. workouts are going good, and so far I haven't had any raggedy aches and pains sideline me from my current schedule... HOWEVER I know this will change so I just have to be proactive and keep stretching and mobilizing throughout the week. I have been playing a lot of Genshin Impact again lately and I'm at the part where I have to fight the Raiden Shogun and I keep getting my LITTLE ASS BEAT because let's face it I'm out of practice and I should probablyyyyyy uh upgrade my characters a little more with their weapons and little trinkety doos and all that garbage. Maybe? It's been a while since I played seriously so I'm like that Parks and Rec gif Except for the doing it well part, HEH. Okay friends that's it for now, I'm going to finish my coffee and oatmeal and checking in on everyone, then tornado myself into my gym clothes and go DO THE THING!! ❤️ 4 Quote i am not waiting for a hero. i saved myself long ago. shaar
GOOD MEOWNING! HAPPY FRIDAYYYYYYYY I had no idea my previous gym pic would blow up to post at the size of the fuckin' Milky Way so SORRY about that ahaha but yes, I did accomplish The Thing MILKY WAY STYLE, whatever that means.. I was also smart about it; I've been having some ongoing issues with my left glute and IT band so before I even left the house I got 20 minutes of targeted stretching in to loosen myself up, and managed a really solid workout when I got there. Deadlifts: 75x5x5 95x5x3 105x5x3 115x3x3 I cycled these with: Paused Squats 30x8x3 OHP 30x8x3 And a 10 minute walk to cool things down. I was a little worried I overdid it with the deadlifts, I could feel my glute getting snarky, so when I was home in the afternoon watching TV I did a good half hour of targeted hip and IT band pressure release with my fingers and a tennis ball (v painful) and this morning I have awoken PAIN FREE I am pretty surprised but also in the back of my lizard brain I KNOW taking care of my body produces results so, duh??? Either way, I am pleased heheheheh. Last night for dinner I made... HOMEMADE FISH STICKS IN THE AIR FRYER !!!!!! It was my first time attempting this debacle and it came out REALLY AMAZING. I used cod and a pretzel breading and the breading was a weeee bit salty so I've just decided that in the future I'm going to concoct my own fucking breading when I make fish sticks and chicken nuggets because the ones I buy are just TOO SALTY and it dunks on my homemade freshness. (Even the non pretzel breadings I've used are salty, ugh, america why) Today it's supposed to be in the 50s so I'd like to go for a walk before hitting the grocery store (oh yeah i gotta finish that list huh).. I also have an ass ton of cleaning to do, I need to vacuum and wash the towels and uhhh what else, I don't even remember, I'm sure these delightful opportunities will present themselves to me later however! WELP that's me for today~ Happy almost weekend nerds WE GOT THIS!! ❤️ 2 1 Quote i am not waiting for a hero. i saved myself long ago. It took me an hour and a half but I have created an ungrammatical sentence from your dots and dashes (I found you could've been as liberal with dashes as dots) ../_/._././_./.._/.._./.._./._./.././_. ITRENUFFRIEN (It *are* *enough* *friend*) pfft Worth the effort of making some message out of it. 😂 3 Quote Level 8 Ranger Spoiler Previous challenges: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 Current challenge: 9 - to write my second draft, to keep moving, and to keep eating more freggies Link to comment
