I'm pretty sure as Sunday turned into Monday and my mind subconsciously braced for the stress of returning to work under such circumstances,

I have a Sunday-to-Monday situation too, with not wanting the very next thing to be heading to work. I will scroll, play inane games, one-click my way towards bankruptcy, etc. It's the stress talking, and I had to start owning it so i could find other approaches. Sorry to hear you're dealing with this. Here for solidarity.

Challenge Day 11: Thursday, April 6

Soak in the Sun

Had to rush out early, but still took like 5 minutes to have breakfast on the balcony. Sun was up but barely visible behind all the clouds, so not much sunshine to be soaked in anyway.

Serpentine Slither

None of this. Was a full day, going straight from work to see a friend visiting from the UK. We said goodbye around midnight and then I realised I'd put on the wrong lock on the brake disk. Didn't have the keys for it, so I took a cab home, then did some typing till 2am to prepare for the day after.

Inner Peace: Overrated

I was actually stressed leaving the bike far from home and not knowing if I'd find it intact or with a parking ticket on, disappointed at myself for messing this up and hyped from the pressure to finish the work stuff and have it ready for the next morning. Pre-sleep meditation was a must and I'm glad I did it.

Master of the Pack

Was out of the house for most of the day.

Caustic Cauldron of Cautiousness

Didn't have any food to take to work, but I did order a chimichanga instead of just grabbing a cheap low quality snack.

Sleep

2am to 6:30-7ish? Not great.

Challenge Day 12: Friday, April 7

Soak in the Sun

Forced day off because I had to handle some stuff regarding a personal client of mine. Still found the time to catch a bit of sunshine before setting out.

Serpentine Slither

Fully meant to do a yoga session in the afternoon, but did not. Weird epiphany thouhgh, see cooking bit below for more.

Inner Peace: Overrated

Since I was out for business which was split between morning and evening, I hit a passable italian restaurant to have something light for lunch. Used all the time between placing my order and the salad's arrival to focus with my eyes open and get a bit of mediation in.

Master of the Pack

Guess the cats are just sleeping their days away, because they were full of energy once I got back in the afternoon. It was also technically the little one's birthday (I have him as born on April 7th on his papers, but that's just a random day in April, can't know for sure because I found him some 3 months later). We agreed to throw a birthday party on Satruday Caturday.

Caustic Cauldron of Cautiousness

So, the epiphany. As mentioned, I had the day off and still worked my regular hours, just for me instead of my employer. At least I made about half a month's salary in a single day, so it was worth the trouble. Either way, the effort was similar and I got back home in the evening as tired as any other workday. Despite my best intentions to cook, do yoga and iron the few shirts I've had out drying for days, I just vegged in front of the computer for hours. Then, around midnight, I got this sudden burst of energy and inspiration, so I just casually cooked up some canneloni. It almost felt like the day was just starting and I was ready to get stuff done. Not that I was refreshed, after a bit of soul searching I realized it's just that I come back so spent, I need time to recover and once that happens, it's like a switch flicks and I'm good to go. That said, some tweaking of either my time schedule or mindset might be in order. Could fiddle with stuff to make sure I don't waste spend too much time to recover after work and if that doesn't work, at least I might as well go straight to bed instead of vegging out till after midnight.

Sleep

Speaking of midnight, that's when inspiration/energy/good mood hit me. Was fooling around till about 3am till the food was cooked, I had "dinner" and went to bed. Not great, considering I had a 10am appointment for a haircut the next morning, so it's not like I could just get my 8 hours of sleep and wake up later than usual.

Fret not, and apologies for the delay.

I get where you’re coming from on needing serious downtime before doing anything next. I’m glad you have a job at long last, and the stress warnings are real, Dear Ranger.

Sending good vibes, because I can tell you’re pushing yourself emotionally as well as physically, and that’s always a bad brew.

4 hours ago, Tanktimus the Encourager said:

Wait, what happened with the bike?

I drove to where I'd be meeting my friend, some half hour drive from my house. Left the bike at a spot I wasn't sure it was allowed, but so late in the night I was hoping there were no patrols out. After parking it, I realised I didn't have the usual anti-theft lock that goes on the brake disk, because I'd left it at home. I did however have an older one with me, so I slapped it on instead. When it was time to leave, around midnight, I realized I may have left the older lock in the bike's back carry space, but I'd taken its key off the keychain. Thus, I was unable to unlock it, which prevented me from moving the entire bike for more than a wheel's worth of rotation. I had to leave it there overnight and take a taxi back home, paying double tarif as it was past midnight. Then there was the stress of planning how to get it back and hoping I wouldn't find the backpack opened with anything missing (that's how I lost my first 2 helmets and a pair of gloves, two incidents two weeks apart from each other), the bike stolen, damaged or that some patrol wouldn't pass by in the morning and leave me a ticket. Fortunately, I did my morning work the next day, took the keys and the subway to where I'd left it and all was well.

Glad the bike was okay, D_R! You certainly have a lot on your plate, it makes sense that you need the reset time after work. I sometimes end up sitting on the bottom step in my house once I take my shoes off. I just gotta sit for a few minutes before my brain is like, 'okay, we can go again'.

A lone figure steps out of the darkened woods...

I've been more than swamped at work, but here's my attempt at pulling from memory and updating as best as I can...

Challenge Days 13-6: Saturday, April 8 to Tuesday, April 11

Soak in the Sun

This has become a habit by now, so I'm pretty sure I did it. Had a haircut appointment at 10 on Saturday though so I couldn't stay for too long. Sunday was better. Had some pressing things to attend at the office on Monday, plus the weather on both workdays wasn't ideal for sunshine.

Serpentine Slither

No yoga sessions these days, but I did get one in today (Wednesday) so I'm not completely off with this one. More on the next update.

Inner Peace: Overrated

Meditation has been another habit that's fallen a bit off and judging from how these last few days have been, I really need to put some effort into doing it.

Master of the Pack

Cats are doing fine and I did get to spend enough time with them. Since I also won't be going anywhere for Easter, I was asked to take care of the neighbours' cat, who'll also be hosting my older cat's original buddy. That means there's a quartet of felines in my immediate future and I can't wait.

Caustic Cauldron of Cautiousness

Did my shopping and cooking during the weekend. Ate some spinach risotto with a bit of leftover grilled liver on Monday, Tuesday was carbonara but with pancetta instead of bacon and no cream, just eggs.

Sleep

I took a nap on Saturday evening and ended up sleeping from 17:00 till 22:00, so it was hard to fall back asleep at a normal time but I did so around 2am. Thankfully, it didn't affect my sleep schedule much. The rest of the days I've been doing more or less ok.

Challenge Day 17:  Wednsday, April 12

Soak in the Sun

Got my bit of sunshine as usual. I'm glad I did, because work went completely off the rails with pressing matters and deadlines. Would have been much harder if instead of a chill start to the day I'd rushed off to work.

Serpentine Slither

Thought of doing a two session combo. Figured it's best if I don't push it. Not like I'm gonna replace frequent consistent small sessions if I do a larger one once every however many days. Water B it was, then. Bonus points for purring kitty, especially when it decided to get comfortable on my upper back while I was doing Ironman pose.

Inner Peace: Overrated

Didn't bother with this one. Let myself calm down naturally and slowly after the stressful day at work.

Master of the Pack

Took the time to play a bit with the cats. Apparently it ticked them off, because they kept going on their own, either chasing toys or each other.

Caustic Cauldron of Cautiousness

I ate the rest of the leftover spinach risotto at work. Sadly, did not get to cook anything for dinner or for work the day after.

Sleep

Ugh. Sleepless night.

Technically, I was able to go to bed at 5am the night before, but didn't as my alarms go off at 6 or 6:30. This means I had some time for breakfast etc, but the sun wasn't up. Also, I had to be at court by 8:30.

Serpentine Slither

Checked if the weight training can be a thing again as long as I do it at a slower, non-crossfitty pace with better breathing and without the app's timer on. Did a set of 14 dumbbell squat clean&presses as a test. Could totally feel my blood pumping after that, so decided to stop. Considered doing some yoga before bedtime, but couldn't be arsed to do so with an aching body that lacked sleep, let alone do the whole shower etc ordeal afterwards, so I just allowed myself the extra sleep instead.

Inner Peace: Overrated

Finally did a bit of meditation before sleep. I'm pretty sure it contributed to a better sleep experience afterwards.

Master of the Pack

I was a responsible pet parent as I managed to order some backup food for my furry kids, while also taking care of the younger one's front claws.

Caustic Cauldron of Cautiousness

Didn't have home cooked food to take to work, so I ordered a burrito.

Sleep

Given the sleepless streak, I put myself to bed early around 9 or 10 so balance was restored.

Challenge Day 19: Friday, April 14

Soak in the Sun

I'd ran out of breakfast supplies, so I gave myself permission to get some extra sleep in the morning.

Serpentine Slither

No yoga was had on this day either.

Inner Peace: Overrated

Think I tried this one but couldn't focus? Not sure.

Master of the Pack

Turns out I won't have to care for the neighbours' two cats, but I'm still having fun with my own.

Caustic Cauldron of Cautiousness

Whipped up some quick pasta and red tuna sauce in the morning, so I had food for work.

Sleep

Think I went to bed around midnight, which still gave me like 8 or 9 hours of sleep given I'd be waking up into a Staruday.

Totally hear you on the needing to unwind after work thing - I have days where I can barely string a sentence together by the time I get home (though thankfully, those seem to be rarer of late). When I commuted to work I used to nap on the train home to try and have some brain power in the evening.

Glad you're managing to catch up on sleep now, that'll probably help too.

Challenge Day 20: Saturday, April 15

Soak in the Sun

Had some time to myself in the morning so I caught a bit of sunlight before setting out to get stuff done.

Serpentine Slither

Decided to invest whatever energy I had into going out and getting some last minute purchases made before everything shut down for Easter.

Inner Peace: Overrated

Got a quick session in before sleeping.

Master of the Pack

Being around the house for most of the day means extra kitty shenanigans.

Caustic Cauldron of Cautiousness

Since the Easter Sunday table is centered around spitroast lamb (or goat cooked in an oven, as a compromise) and eating a ton of stuff, I decided to go light and detox a bit ahead of time. Lunch was home cooked and puree'd fava beans with some achovies and mackerel. Had some chicken breast that had stayed in the fridge for a few days, so I grilled it to save it from going bad. Wrapped it in a tortilla for dinner, alongside a bit of Philadelphia cream cheese, a slice of cheddar and a splash of avocado and lime sauce. Delicious.

Sleep

Stayed up for the Easter celebrations at midnight. Watched whatever few fireworks went down (which is good, because they tend to freak animals out) and went to bed.
