Huge difference in location, wow!

I'm glad the paper was completed and turned in, especially regarding the guidance on where cuts can be made. That was always always always a huge problem for me - I wrote too much and didn't know where/how to cut without losing so much important information!

Rest well and travel safely!

You don't have to be perfect, you just have to be better than you were before. Do that every day and you will succeed.

The City, oh how I miss thee 😍😍

Happy to hear you’re navigating fine despite the crazy amount of walking over what you think you’ll be doing - I remember the subway station walks being exhausting my first year there.

And 🥳🥳 on turning that big paper in!

I did rest well, once I fell asleep, which was so late it was early. Okay universe.

I took the bus to this morning's talk, then bailed in the conference and went to the City to hit the NYPL, and wow!! It's so freaking gorgeous and amazing! I got lunch in the library cafe, bought some signed books and gifts for Vivian, though choosing was impossible; she and I will just have to come back together.

I took the D train all the way back to my hotel and now it's time for a bath and a nap before working on the presentation note cards.

The nap was exactly the restoration I needed.

I woke up, made tea, and worked on the presentation notes. It’s now complete and I’m very satisfied with it.

Time to knit and watch an episode and then sleep before putting it all on display tomorrow.

May you have peace, Friends.

Thank you, Darci! I did have a great time presenting today, and feel like I knocked it out of the park, actually.

After the end of the conference, some of us walked down to a nearby bar, where we did the post-conference conviviality (my tonic water was exactly what I needed, too — I was parched.) After an hour, I made my goodbyes, and I very much hope to see them again next year.

I made my way back to the hotel. I’m not sure what I sat in at the bus stop bench, but when I came into my room, I stripped down and did laundry in the sink while a fresh pot of tea steeped. This is the Way. My skirt is now clean again and hanging to dry; I have walked over 10,000 steps and want nothing more than to lie down and feel centered.

I need to add some more words and references to the Case Study, but that is Saturday evening’s work.

Today’s work is done, and it was wonderful.

❤️

Well done on the presentation.

Thank you.

It’s pouring here in NY, a thing that never used to matter and then, suddenly, after the events of a couple weeks ago, seems to completely dampen the spirit. No one is out doing anything, and I’m inclined to join them (but I’ve always been like that), mostly because I need to just do Nothing Much. I’d like to have the whole day to do Nothing At All, but Hadestown is at 2, and you know I’m not missing that (if the train is flooded out, I’ll take an Uber).  An ideal schedule would have been to take today for Nothing, and see the show tomorrow afternoon, then take all day Monday for the train. Monday is a school holiday, and it’s supposed to be one that Vivian spends with me, but I’ve not had confirmation from her dad and I suspect he’ll not send her to me, which is about par for the course.

I have a paper I could be working on, but I’m not feeling it, so I’ll probably just do the Staring At The Ceiling Thing until it’s time to leave.

May you have peace this day.

Vivian did not, in fact, come for a visit today.

It's rainy and grey and I turned on the heat.

Welcome home! I'm sorry re-entry is hard. I commiserate. 💜

Thank you.

I had expected re-entry to work to be difficult.

What I didn't expect is that re-entry to school would be even harder. Ooof, this is rough, and along with the kerfuffle that is blowing up, it's leaving me very emotionally disengaged from the whole landscape.

I sat and plotted out what remains of the work to be done this term, and I am taking a trudging approach to it. It will all get done, and probably in a timely fashio (i'm a little concerned that my assigned group still hasn't chosen a topic yet, despite two different suggestions; the final presentation is due 11/4). Anyway, it will all get done and then I think I'm going to take a break on the LIS classes next term, and probably take no classes at all over the summer. This was too much to take on and I've been running at maximum capacity for too long. At the end of this term, assuming I don't get expelled from the university, I will still have 7 library classes left to take for the MSLS degree. I can take them one at a time, if I so choose (we don't have assigned cohorts or tracks), and that might well be how it gets done (if it gets done). Next term is qualifying questions, then the dissertation after that, and that's a lot. That's enough.

I heard back from one of the job applications this morning, just a check in to see if I'm still interested in the position, and I said yes I was. We'll see what comes of that.

Forgot to mention that I met Mikayla and Kat at the gym this morning for some water aerobics, hot tub, and sauna before work.

This is amazing and wonderful and the best part of my day.

I am glad you found something positive which brought a little spot of joy to all of the madness elsewhere.

I send love and resolution energy from afar. May everything going forward be Good, Positive, and Painless.

You don't have to be perfect, you just have to be better than you were before. Do that every day and you will succeed.

Sounds like you had a great time in New York. I do not envy you having to write tedious papers at the same time.

I agree that coming back to your normal routine is hard after a break.

This is wisdom. You have been pushing yourself very hard. Qualifying exams are typically the most difficult hurdle of getting a PhD. I don't know about your program. In my program, if someone was going to fail at any point, it would be a qualifying exams. I think you are smart to allow lots of time for study and practice next term. You can take the other courses after you pass your exam.

Thank you. This is very welcome, as always, and especially right now.

There’s a line in Hadestown, when Orpheus is being told the conditions of taking Eurydice out of the Underworld, and he looks at Hermes and says “Is this a trap?” And Hermes replies, all solemnness, “It’s a trial.” What I’m going through this week with the school stuff is a trial, and it’s not the deep trough of homework, but evaluation of a possible misstep on my part. I’m not going to sugar coat it; when I got the email about the situation I broke out in a cold sweat and thought I would throw up. I have calmed since then. All will play out as it is meant to. There is no fight; I have no enemies.

Thank you for this supportiveness. I didn’t know how much I needed these words until after I read them. Yes, you are right; this is the Way.

I heard back from the job from yesterday with a pdf of questions to answer that will count as my initial interview. Okay, Universe, this is all moving very quickly, and it includes a training schedule as if I’ve already been hired, which I don’t know that I feel comfortable with, actually. I have always taken the approach that the interview is a chance for me to ask questions and test drive the company as much as it’s a chance for them to evaluate me. This feels like an important piece, and I’m not looking to jump into the deep end in the dark. I don’t know if I’m going to answer the questions or not, honestly. I’ll have to sit with this a minute before I make a decision, but I’m leaning towards not — it feels flighty and desperate, and i don’t need that in my life.

The vegetables have been delivered.

My house is clean enough.

I am taking a break from homework this evening to rest my soul.

I had an opportunity to talk with Neal and process the academic situation, and his position is very similar to mine, that of surprise both at the content and the escalation without any communication. This was helpful, and the transparency is everything. Also, he affirmed that he feels solid and certain about the way I approach scholarship, and that there is nothing he has ever seen to indicate that I am trying to pull a fast one or disregard the rules. This was centering. The more I walk the journey of this life, the more I believe that Ubuntu is necessary and essential, the concept-word that means “I am because we are.” We know ourselves through the reflection of others who are willing to walk with us on this terrible, magical, tragical, often-uphill journey.

Thanks for being along the Road with me.

May you have peace this day.

❤️
