TimovieMan
Now that September is here, and the kids have to go back to school again, it's time to fall back into the regular non-vacation routine. Except this time around, the routine is slightly different. The kids' hobbies have changed their timetables slightly, and particularly TimovieDaughter has expanded on her hobbies quite a bit by also wanting to play football now. TimovieSon has football practice twice a week, goalkeeper practice once, and a football match on Saturday morning. This is more or less the same as last year. TimovieDaughter now has football practice twice a week, a football match on Saturday morning, swimming practice once a week (there's overlap with football for the second swimming practice), two music classes each week, and piano practice once. That's busy as fuck, since there's *something* every day of the (work)week. We've only got Sundays off now. TimovieDaughter will have to make a decision by the end of the year, though. One of the hobbies has got to go. Preferably the music since it's not like she practices often at home unless being nagged about it by us. But not only are the kids' schedules busier now, Mrs. Movieman has just switched jobs. Her first day was yesterday. And while she's working a lot closer to home now (biking or even walking distance), she's got a bit more responsibilities to take on than in her previous job, and everything is new, so she has a lot coming at her right now. That also means that we still have to get a handle on what her routine will look like from now on. So, juggling all this will prove a challenge, especially if I want to keep up with everything. This challenge for me will be as follows: Bad Poor Ok Good Excellent Frequency Notes Intermittent fasting < 14 hours ≥ 14 hours ≥ 16 hours ≥ 17 hours ≥ 20 hours Daily Calorie intake > 4000 cal > 3000 cal ≤ 3000 cal ≤ 2400 cal ≤ 2000 cal Daily Ballpark figures are good enough Curfew ≥ 1.30 am ≥ 1.00 am < 1.00 am < 0.30 am < 0.00 am Daily Add 2 hours before non-working days Sleep < 5h 30m < 6 hours ≥ 6 hours ≥ 6h 30m ≥ 7 hours Daily Fitbit numbers - naps count for half Avg. sleep < 6 hours ≥ 6 hours ≥ 6h 15m ≥ 6h 30m ≥ 6h 45m Weekly Fitbit numbers - naps count for half Steps < 6.000 ≥ 6.000 ≥ 8.000 ≥ 10.000 ≥ 12.000 Daily Fitbit numbers Avg. steps < 9.000 ≥ 9.000 ≥ 10.000 ≥ 11.000 ≥ 12.000 Weekly Fitbit numbers Workouts ≤ 1 > 1 > 2 > 3 > 4 Weekly Mini-workouts: 1/10 per exercise Distance < 15 km ≥ 15 km ≥ 20 km ≥ 25 km ≥ 30 km Weekly Walk to Mordor distance Similar to the previous challenges, but with minor tweaks to the curfew and the workouts, giving me ever so slightly more slack the coming weeks. And the weight is no longer part of this log. Which is not to say that I'm now maintaining. Just that I'm not going to fret about the week-to-week weight changes. I'm doing the weight loss PVP again, so losing 10 pounds to reach my second weight milestone is now a general two-challenge goal. 17 Quote Active challenges: Make work of working out | Walk to Mordor - (spreadsheet) | DailyDare | Weight Loss PVP 10/12 lbs in 10/12 weeks - (spreadsheet) 2023 threads: Challenge VIII | IX | X | XI | XII | XIII | XIV 2018-19 & 2021 threads: Battle log | Challenge I | II | III | IV | V | VI | VII Link to comment

TimovieMan
Monday: Had a busy morning at work. My lunch break got postponed a bit because of this. Still went for a long walk, so I got my steps in. But my entire schedule had shifted a bit, and I simply didn't have the time to add in a workout as well. Will try again on Wednesday (since today is not an option). Today: Short night's sleep. Again. Divinity: Original Sin - Enhanced Edition is to blame. Again. Le sigh. My start of "zero week" so far: Week 0 M T W T F S S Intermittent fasting Calorie intake Curfew Sleep Avg. sleep 5h22 Steps Avg. steps 12.1K Workouts 0.0 Distance 7.26 km The song I'm picking now is from a band whose name I've known for decades but I never really looked too closely at their discography. That changed when I saw them live at the Alcatraz Festival last month. In my preparation, they'd already come across as "these guys are better than I thought", but then they also gave one of the better performances of the festival, and that made me sit up and take notice. Especially because I see and hear a lot of similarities with the band Paradise Lost (who I love). Both bands started in the doom metal genre, but evolved over time and incorporated different styles, leading to a rich discography. This song in particular is a favourite of mine now: Amorphis - House of Sleep 9 Quote Active challenges: Make work of working out | Walk to Mordor - (spreadsheet) | DailyDare | Weight Loss PVP 10/12 lbs in 10/12 weeks - (spreadsheet) 2023 threads: Challenge VIII | IX | X | XI | XII | XIII | XIV 2018-19 & 2021 threads: Battle log | Challenge I | II | III | IV | V | VI | VII Link to comment

TimovieMan
Good news and bad news. Let's start with the bad: again no workout on Wednesday. I'll try again on Friday. And I really need to start the DailyDare exercises again... The good: we have successfully convinced TimovieDaughter to give up music. Took some convincing. "But I super-enjoy it!" "If you really super-enjoyed it, you'd practice more!" 😅 That means that the kids don't have any activities on Wednesday afternoons, which makes working from home easier - especially these first couple of weeks when the missus needs to be at the office more. It also makes Thursday evenings and Saturday noons less hectic. Plus it'll save us the monthly rent on the piano AND clear out one of the larger pieces of furniture in our living room... 🤣 My week so far: Week 0 M T W T F S S Intermittent fasting Calorie intake Curfew Sleep Avg. sleep 5h21 Steps Avg. steps 11.4K Workouts 0.0 Distance 14.89 km Oh look, I got into bed at a decent time for once... 😇 Yes, I know that so little sleep isn't healthy. Didn't make my 16-hour fasting window yesterday. Didn't even make a 14-hour one. But I'm compensating with a 24+ hour one today... 😁 Let's talk movies for a bit. I love director Terrence Malick's philosophical / poetic approach in films - it has resulted in 'The Thin Red Line' for instance, a perfect companion piece to Spielberg's 'Saving Private Ryan' that released in the same year. But unfortunately, some of his films have parts that are simply "out there". 'The Tree of Life' provides one such example. That's a movie that I simply didn't "get". I know Malick was angling for spiritual themes, but I couldn't really connect the parts with the birth of the universe and emergence of life on Earth to the rest of the movie. I just didn't "get" it. However, one of those sequences was still jaw-droppingly brilliant. Images of the universe set to a classical opera piece - where the combination of the powerful music and the gorgeous visuals lead to an awe-inspiring movie moment. I still didn't "get" the context of it all, but my God, this bit was beautiful... Zbigniew Preisner - Lacrimosa Movie scene: Zbigniew Preisner - Lacrimosa Full song: I still haven't decided on a #2000 for my list, a song to open with. I have a #1000 (Daft Punk's 'Tron: Legacy Overture'), and I have a #100 (Carl Orff's 'O Fortuna') as milestones. I'm thinking this here might make an epic opener for the #2000 spot. Plus, it'll undoubtedly elicit some "WTF?"-looks from the kids... 🤣 11 Quote Active challenges: Make work of working out | Walk to Mordor - (spreadsheet) | DailyDare | Weight Loss PVP 10/12 lbs in 10/12 weeks - (spreadsheet) 2023 threads: Challenge VIII | IX | X | XI | XII | XIII | XIV 2018-19 & 2021 threads: Battle log | Challenge I | II | III | IV | V | VI | VII Link to comment

I'm kind of wondering how I did these before without running into time constraints. The new routine is not a well-oiled machine yet. The lack of sleep caught up with me. Wanted to watch the Alcaraz vs Medvedev match. Fell asleep on the couch. At least I got to recover *some* sleep. TimovieMan
Sunday afternoon was spent at our friends' house for a barbecue. And lots of appetizers. And a lot of dessert. And I had two rum-and-cokes and a lot of Ice Tea. Also very few steps. But at least I got a good night's sleep for once (got in bed relatively shortly after watching Coco Gauff win the US Open), and even managed to get my average sleep length over 6 hours for the week. With the amount of "less than 5h30 of sleep" days, that's quite the achievement. So of course I followed that up with getting in bed at 2 am last night, so this week starts with another "red" sleep day. Blame the average rally length of the Medvedev-Djokovic US Open final. And then I couldn't even get to sleep because it was just too darn hot in the house. Even though TimovieSon had crawled into our bed and I thus had to sleep in his - which meant that I could sleep in the coolest room in the house under an open window. No avail. Oh well. Week 0 summary Week 0 M T W T F S S Intermittent fasting Calorie intake Curfew Sleep Avg. sleep 6h01 Steps Avg. steps 10.5K Workouts 0.0 Distance 26.04 km Eating was good, apart from Sunday but that was an expected "red" day. Weekly weigh-in was on Sunday morning, natch. 😅 Sleep was piss-poor all week. Let's chalk that one up to me playing Divinity: Original Sin. It's more of a reason than the US Open was. Steps were decent enough, but faltered over the weekend. No workouts is a massive point of improvement for these coming weeks. Didn't even do the DailyDares either. Need a respawn on this. Weekly weigh-in Weight: 92.95 kg (+0.55) Body fat: 22.1% (+0.1) Measurement was before a day of heavy eating, but during a heat wave, so water retention is part of the issue. I couldn't take off my wedding ring, which is a good indication of this. Walk to Mordor Distance walked/swam this week: 26.04 km (16.18 miles) Road to Mordor: total 546.8 miles - Rivendell to Lothlórien - Dec. 30 / 1 Yule - Night 6 since Rivendell - reached the crest of another low mountain spur. Turned southwest at descent. Here's the title song of Paradise Lost's "One Second" album. A band that was probably the most influential death/doom metal band in the world just a few years prior to this release, suddenly had a shift in sound and made what is probably their softest album to date. With this arguably being their softest song. While the band has spoken out against some of their releases during their "softer" era, I'm pretty sure that they still like this particular album. They played two songs off it when I saw them live last year. Including this one: Paradise Lost - One Second Is it me, or does singer Nick Holmes resemble Coldplay's Chris Martin a bit in this video? 🤣 7 Quote Active challenges: Make work of working out | Walk to Mordor - (spreadsheet) | DailyDare | Weight Loss PVP 10/12 lbs in 10/12 weeks - (spreadsheet) 2023 threads: Challenge VIII | IX | X | XI | XII | XIII | XIV 2018-19 & 2021 threads: Battle log | Challenge I | II | III | IV | V | VI | VII Link to comment

They're at that difficult age where they want to do ALL THE THINGS, but they're still too young for us to go "well take your bike and off you are then". 😅 1 hour ago, Waanie said: There is no such thing as half a game of Civilization. Civ VI kept everything that worked in Civ V and expanded upon it, and in theory V and especially VI should be better than CIV, but for me personally, CIV is the greatest game in the series. There's such a thing as making the games too complex and time-consuming. Some games are just far more fun when they're dumbed down a little... 🙃 Probably why I'd sooner go back to Championship Manager 01-02 with an updated database, than try any of the newer Football Manager games. They stopped being fun after 2007, since there was so much to do that it took you three hours just to advance to the next match. Back in CM01-02, you could finish an entire season in about eight hours... 7 Quote Active challenges: Make work of working out | Walk to Mordor - (spreadsheet) | DailyDare | Weight Loss PVP 10/12 lbs in 10/12 weeks - (spreadsheet) 2023 threads: Challenge VIII | IX | X | XI | XII | XIII | XIV 2018-19 & 2021 threads: Battle log | Challenge I | II | III | IV | V | VI | VII Link to comment

And the logistics of getting their jerseys washed in time as well. In a couple of years it'll be a bit easier since we'll be able to let them go by bike, but now that's still a little iffy.
