Hello and happy Week One of the Autumn Vibes challenges.

I spent Week Zero recovering from a cold that tried to kill me over Labor Day Weekend. Feelin' sorry for Cidran - he had the symptoms pretty badly last night.

I managed to meet both of my unsaid goals this morning:

I did some editing on my book, and for the first time in months I did a set of the NF beginner bodyweight exercises.

Even with just one set, my shoulder got a spike of pain, so I also did Hinge stretches on my lunch break, and I'll do them again tomorrow morning.

After my two-goal challenge last month, I really want a third challenge. It being the month of Bilbo Baggin's birthday (albeit not with the excellent party from last year), maybe I should feature my hobbit food goals of enjoying produce from raiding Farmer Maggot's fields.

Surprise goal: I want to bike to the mall at least once a week. If I have the energy in the evening, that's good. If I have to go on the weekend, that's fine. And for doing so, I get to stop by Hot Topic and get a pin. 😉

Week 1:

💪 - success

📝 - success

Tonight is game night sans a player, and I never told y'all how last week went. 😅

So glad to see you! Excellent resolutions. I hope that your shoulder tunes up and gets in line without any more difficulty.

Of course I am here to cheer!

Wait, now I want a hobbit party...

It was so much fun! I had made both Bilbo's seed cakes and Beorn's honey cake because I couldn't decide. There was a masterpiece charcuterie board, pies, lembas bread, po-tay-toes, and more! I only found out there won't be a repeat this year the other week, and I am sad, but don't think I could manage the same effort just to make it happen. 😅

Good job on the bodyweight exercises!  How does the shoulder feel now?

Still hurting. Hopefully Hinge tomorrow will continue improving. Could also take ibuprofen. I took a dose at lunch, which definitely wore off some time ago. 😆

Also, I am glad you did not die.

Sneezed so much today, I'm not sure if I'm rid of this plague yet. 😅

Thanks. I need to bolster my resolve for my goals. Working on that from the mental side.

Me, too. It was nice that it had calmed down, and now it's bullying me again. 😅

There will be much rejoicing! 😃

And I can hardly wait to share the content of the last two sessions of Curse of Strahd. So much hilarity happened tonight! 🤣 But I must sleep, so I'm not sharing it right now. 😅 Goodnight!

Tonight is game night sans a player, and I never told y'all how last week went. 😅

So as of last week, the players stayed the night with the Martikovs, having cleared the winery of the corrupt druids, and coming up with a temporary solution for the interrupted wine production.

They helped deliver a shipment of wine to gain access to the town of Krezk, where they got sent up to the Abbey, met some disturbing residents there including the eerily pretty Abbott who bargained information in exchange for delivering a fancy white wedding dress for his ward.

On their way out, they bumped into his guest Esmeralda who upon meeting them, recognized them as the types of adventures who are lured to Barovia by Count Strahd von Barovich. She escorted them to a decrepit tower where they could go unobserved and she could do a reading for them regarding the path they must take to defeat said count. (I could share the card readings if you'd like)

They carried on to the town of Vallaki where they met family of the Martikovs and they stayed the night. There were shenanigans that evening involving following a suspicious man to his mysterious carnival wagon and the barbarian fitting right in with some wolf-hunting drinking buddies.

In yesterday's session, everyone woke up from vivid dreams (except the silver dragonborn, who couldn't be woken up, and was frosty cold like a reverse fever). There was no sign of Esmeralda having gone to the room to sleep, and no sign of Rictavio in his rooms where he'd been seen going the night before.

Lacking any particularly good leads on either of those missing people, they went to the church they'd passed on their way into town. The twilight cleric spoke with Father Lucian about the church, its theology, and its services. They got yet another errand, but also a lead on wedding dresses - that they could speak with his sister (who happens to be still enraptured with her dress, and was more than happy to show it to them and gabble on and on about her wonderful wedding).

You guys! They stole the dress! While she was right there! 😂😂😂 I died laughing for the next half hour as they arranged the shenanigans and distracted her, magically commanded her to forget when she saw the empty mannequin, then tried to get her out of the incriminating room, only for her to see again. In a panic, the twilight cleric cast Sleep, which knocked out both the woman and the other cleric. 🤣🤣🤣

So after tying her up, they're trying to get out, but they bump into a dangerous looking man with a demonic claw of a hand. He takes them to a sitting room, but as soon as he's down the hall and out of sight, they're high tailing out of the mansion looking for cover. Last scene of the night was the group barreling into the toy shop to get off the streets. 😈

Had a salad to accompany my lunch of leftover BBQ. Yum. 😃 Did a little editing this morning, as well as a low level of Hinge stretches to ease up my achy shoulders, so still doing good on my goals two days in. 😅

Hope you enjoyed the recap!

Quick recap: I did a set of BBW exercises this morning - my shoulder pain kicks in on the shoulder rows. I'll try doing the elastic band variation to take it easier.

Last night I played bass with Cidran, and tonight is Pulp Cthulhu. And I got another page of editing done this morning. At this rate, I don't think I'll have my condensed draft reviewed in time to use NaNoWriMo for another rewrite. Honestly I might use NaNoWriMo as a spur to type it up for sharing. Is it honestly taking me that long? Yes. Am I doing fifty other things? Also yes. Just keep swimming. 😅

Hello! Here to follow (and to shamelessly steal ideas from your campaign recaps, haha) and support.

I'm so sorry your shoulder is acting up. My right shoulder and I have a nemesis-level rivalry...let me know if you want to trade suggestions for PT exercises. Which makes me feel really old now that I've typed it 😅

I'm impressed with your perseverance on your draft, especially given how much else you have going on. Keep on with it  💪

Not quite yet, but looking at my progress on this condensed edit, I'm not making the best time I optimistically devised (read as "life interfered with the July camp NaNo, and I've not been spending every waking minute on the effort like I did in January"), and I know September and October are bound to be over in a flash. 😉

Yes, please. 😆 The Hinge exercises probably have a lot of overlap because they're very much "relieve pain by improving motion," but it'd be nice to have confirmation that I'm not missing anything particularly helpful. 😅

Except that which we attribute to it. 🤔 I'm happy summer is over, though. I'm not mentally ready for goals and challenges, but I shouldn't let that stop me from challenging myself anyway. 😅

So obviously, my issues are not your issues and YMMV, but these are the exercises that were pure gold for me (helped me go from near-constant tingling and numbness in my right arm and hand to being pain- and tingle-free with full sensation):

This one looks like it's all about the neck, but it's all connected and this helped deal with some nerve inflammation/activation issues I was having around my shoulder blades:

Hopefully some of them will be useful for you. These are the most important exercises from the routine that made me a PT believer

The Nerve Glide and the Chin Tuck look a lot like some of the stretches for neck and shoulders and upper back on Hinge. I've been doing a combination of tilting, panning, and rolling my head in turns (using camera terminology).

Spoiler

FNVk7eNXIAEScT-.png.2117a07f0267af28f6f4cf2a502fa5e2.png

The nerve glide looks more effective than the head being rolled or tilted, so I will give them a try. The chin tucks have been in the Hinge app, and I'll use the tip for the motion of it.

Ooh, those look nice. 😍 But I has no bench. 😥 How to do those? 🤔🤔🤔

Good morning!

Quick update that yesterday morning I skipped editing to play a little bass, but then I edited in the evening past the second fight scene, and then played ACNH for the rest of the night (and tried to figure out what creatures I've yet to catch for my museum).

I need to go do my BBW exercises before I run out of time before work! Done!

At my PT's recommendation, I do them lying diagonally on the bed with my nose/mouth just right at the edge of the corner - that means my arms are mostly off the bed too, which allows free movement, but my core and neck are supported. I warn you, the blackburns are harder than they look. It's insane how much harder the thumbs-up variation makes them, too.

For an easier version, you can also do the same motion while standing. I actually do the last type (where your arms are in a V-shape) at my desk a couple of times a day because they just feel nice when I am working and need a break.

🤔 Maybe I should try them standing up first, to work up my tolerance for the motions?

Yesterday was a rough Friday, but still better than a few weeks ago. It went okay, though the last closing procedures ended up being an ordeal for my coworker and me. 😅

Spent last night watching YouTube, making dinner, and playing ACNH. Dinner was an excellent red Thai curry in which we included three whole vegetables. Great success. 😃

After breakfast and grocery shopping, I did my Hinge stretches to ease the flare of pain in my shoulder. Should do a page of editing before my other events today. Also should vacuum... 🤔

Thank you, Kalitraz! Glad to offer inspiration.

I hope everyone's weekend went well. Mine doesn't feel like it, despite having a lovely Saturday morning - breakfast, grocery run, vacuuming... I then attended a bachelorette party at which we talked wedding details, played on a playground, ate ridiculous amounts of sugar (thank goodness I brought a veggie tray, even if I was the only one to eat off of it), and played D&D until midnight when we begged the DM to wrap it up for us because we couldn't stay awake... then after lights were turned out, everyone stayed up talking until two in the morning.

I couldn't sleep by the time it was 2:30, so I left in the middle of the night, got home, and discovered Cidran had hurt himself and needed stitches. We didn't get home and into bed until 5:30, and all of yesterday felt like a dud, but I did do some emotion-processing gardening pulling out grass and vines and tree sprouts (and hopefully not too many of my wildflowers). And then took a shower to clean off the sweat and dirt. 😅

This morning, I did do warm up stretches because I'm still achy, but I haven't done my BBW even though I managed to get up a little earlier than usual. I did do editing for a page before Cid called into work, and I tried to do the same. I want to stay home to take care of him today, but the schedule can't accommodate that. No D&D tonight.

I convinced him to call in sick today even though he wants everything to be normal. I wouldn't mind him working from home, but I think he's scheduled in office, and he made it sound like they won't compromise even if he has stitches that need a week to heal.

I feel so exhausted. Hopefully lunch improves things. Glad I don't have to arrange for D&D tonight on top of everything else. Not sure yet if it'll interfere with Call of Cthulhu or not. Probably not? He'll be itching to go out anyway. We both will. 😅

Hahaha, yeah, no, not with him. He's back to work today. We rebandaged it last night after he took a shower, and it looks like it's doing okay so far after strictly stuck at home for a solid two days.

I played ACNH last night for a little bit, but mostly we got in some cuddle time and talked through some emotional upheaval. I think he made it out of his spiral. I didn't do my workout til this morning, but I did do it. Had some stretching yesterday, even if not through the Hinge app. 😅 Dreamt I shaved off half my hair. 😥 Oh, and I did do some editing, so I've still got that streak going. 😃

Last night Cid and I watched "My Bride is a Mermaid" after a fun dinner of brats with sides of seasoned gnocchi, green beans, and (for me) pickles (that I've had two opened jars, and needed to work on depleting them, but they don't go with most foods we make). I'm having the same for lunch today. Hopefully no one minds my pickle breath. 😆

I did another page of editing this morning, bringing me to the third clock tower town on the caravan route. I'm very nearly to the end of the second draft, and must consider whether to continue my editing through the mostly unchanged portion of the first draft, or to use the condensed form that originally came of it. There are portions that are still up in the air, some where chips have landed, and others I was already quite certain of. I think it's probably best that I continue editing so as best to lay down where I know the second draft went even if it hasn't been a quick read-through this go-round.

I started a lunch time stretches, but got interrupted by a coworker coming in to make coffee. 🙄 I should resume it. 😅 (EDIT: I did resume and finish my lunch stretches)
