Like many other nerds, I have a weight goal I'm aiming at for the end of the year.   I'd really like to be in the 250's by the end of the year.  As of right now, that's just over 5 pounds.  Under normal circumstances, I think I could certainly buckle down and get there.  But these are holiday conditions.  Peach comes home from college in just under 3 weeks and then a week after that we head back up north for our family Christmas celebration. I don't want to let the holidays interfere with my goals but I also plan to enjoy the holiday and allow myself some grace.  My plan is to lose as much as I can before the family get together.  Once I get back I'll hopefully have just enough time to get back down to the pre-travel weight by the end of the year.  5 pounds seems like a stretch but I'll take what I can get.  

 

So here's the plan

 

Lose It streak of 30

I lost my streak logging food over Thanksgiving so I'm currently on day 5.  Logging every day until Christmas Eve I can get to 30.  

 

No Excuses Meal Plan

Just keep doing what I've been doing.  I still eat chocolate or cookies or whatever but it has to fit into my calorie budget.  It just requires smart choices if we go out to eat and not letting those frequent 'exceptions' derail me  

 

Modified Holiday Fitness Plan

This is where the grace comes in.  I've been taking a break from the gym after I hurt my back but it's time to get back there.  But I'm also busy and I'm tired of getting home after dark.  I don't want to stress over it but don't want to skip the gym entirely.  Plus workouts while traveling aren't really a possibility.

  • Part I - pre-travel
    • 1 walk per week
    • 1 gym strength workout per week
    • prescribed back stretches 3 times per week
  • Part II - Travel portion
    • Christmas Vacation Fitness Bingo!  While traveling I'll try to accomplish as many squares from the fitness bingo card as possible.   See below how to play along or help award prizes

Bonus goal - Daisy Squares

I'm attempting to make a blanket for Peach made from crocheted daisy squares.  I need somewhere from 70-130 depending on the size of the blanket.  I currently only have 22.  I need to crochet as many as possible hoping to finish this by Christmas.

The deadline has certainly kept me motivated but I'm not sure it's physically possible to complete it in time.  She might just get to open a box of loose daisy squares!

I really like the app actually.  It tracks my fasting and it allows me to spread my calorie budget out over the week with some high days and low days.  I like changing the high days weekly to correspond to activities I've got.  It's been really helpful.

Wednesday

I debated grabbing DDG after work and class to head out for a walk but I needed to stay late after class again to help a student.  By the time I got home it was already late, it was dark out, and I was tired and hungry.   We decided to stay in.  We are rewatching the Marvel movies before our Disney + subscription is ended.  We are watching them in the Cape Order.  We watched Black Widow, had easy chicken Caesar salads for dinner and I got a single daisy square done.   Lose it streak 6 and calories to spare for the day.  

 

Thursday

There were donuts at work.  I would have been fine if I hadn't looked at them but they looked extremely tasty.  I grabbed one for breakfast and broke my fast early.  Then later I realized there was also a maple frosted donut so I grabbed that to have after lunch.  To compensate for it I skipped my afternoon chocolate and skipped the frozen yogurt bar I had expected to have after dinner.  I also adjusted my high calorie day on Lose it.  But since DDG and I went for a walk at the gym turns out I didn't need the high calorie day.   I was against going to the gym.  Again I was tired from a very busy day and just wanted to relax but I also didn't want to save all my workouts for the weekend so we were troopers and just got it done.  DDG walked 3 mile.  While he started I did some stretches from my chiropractor to warm up and loosen up my back.  Then I stopped a few laps early and did some other stretches.  

 

Of course they cut into the evening. Dinner was easy chicken Caesar salad again and I didn't quite get 1 daisy square done while we watched Thor Ragnarok. 

 

The bingo sounds so fun so I decided not to wait until I travel.  I'll play each week and wipe the bingo card each Monday.  I made one modification to it and changed one of the car stretches to hip flexor stretches.  For the other car stretch square I'll sub in desk stretches.  Last night I did cobra, cat cow, and child's pose before my walk, then figure 4 and hip flexor stretches after.

Friday

I fasted an extra hour or so because work interruptions and then a chiropractor appointment.   Still managed to stick to my usual lunch and just enough chocolate to wash it down.  I got too busy for an afternoon snack. 

It was still just barely light out when I got home and it felt nice. I was hungry  then but waited until dinner instead of snacking. Dinner was a frozen pizza shared with DDG followed by a frozen yogurt bar. Logged all food and had calories to spare.

We watched Avengers Infinity War. I finished the crochet square from the night before, and other full one, and then almost finished another.

Thanks.  I aim for a 15 hour fast.  I can't quite get to 16 hours comfortably.  I could try to get there but I think 15 serves me well.

I am a big fan of IF for the most part. Right now I am not "really" doing it as I have a protein shake on the way into work but I don't really eat until 11. So solid food isn't had from 5pm until 11am. So about 18hours. I think what I like about it most is getting in tune with your body and being like "Hey I am hungrier than normal this morning I wonder why?"

Same!  I will listen to my body and if I'm genuinely hungry in the morning for some reason I'll go ahead and find something to eat, hopefully something healthy.  The other benefit I find is that I am more in touch with what being hungry actually feels like.  I don't wait so long that I'm ravenous but true hunger feels different from 'I'm bored and I could eat something' or 'I'm just thinking about food so I should eat something'.

Week end Update

Saturday

No news from the neighbor about empanadas so we had to whip up our own lunch.  We had some leftover breakfast sausage links so I chopped them up and fried a couple slice of bacon for a breakfast skillet with hashbrowns, eggs, and cheese.   It was very delish.  Saturday night is always an impromptu night for dinner.  There's no batch cooking and we are usually out of leftovers.  We did have some leftover canned alfredo and pizza sauces from pizza night the week before and a half bag of pappardelle pasta in the cupboard.  I stopped at the deli counter at the store and picked up just enough italian sausage for the night and made some creamy tomato sausage pasta. We even still had garlic bread in the freezer.  Snacks were minimal for the day and I was well under the calorie target.  

 

We did make it to the gym.  I love Saturday afternoons at the gym because it's so quiet.  I did my prescribed stretches for my back to warm up and then did the last workout from my trainer minus the RDLs that messed up my back in the first place.  3 sets of everything.   I crossed squats and penguins off my bingo card but never managed a bingo.  I suppose had I looked at it I might have been included to be more strategic with my accessory work.   

 

We finished our Marvel Cape Order movie marathon before the gym.  In the evening we started the Indiana Jones movie marathon.  I spent a lot of time crocheting daisy squares but still only managed to finish a little more than 4 squares.  

 

Sunday 

Sunday was a lazy day.  I didn't even feel like making anything for lunch so we had peanut butter jelly sandwiches with baked chips and we shared an apple.  I was ravenous by afternoon so I put together a mini charcuterie meat and cheese board with some grapes for us to share.  I gave the dog a bath and then cleaned up afterwards and then showered myself and washed my hair.  All of this counts as a workout as far as I'm concerned.   While I was doing all this DDG was out picking up groceries.  I was hangry by the time he got back and we started on supper right away.  I made Christmas potato soup because my extended family doesn't want it for Christmas anymore.  We had salads on the side.   I had just enough calories leftover for a frozen yogurt bar.  I only got 2 daisy squares done because of all the time I spent Christmas shopping.

Overall it was a great week.  I only got 2/3 stretching sessions in but to be fair I hadn't decided the goal was 3 until Wednesday when I posted my challenge.  I did, however, plan to do one Sunday and never got around to it.  Monday weigh in was 264.2 for a 2.6 pound loss last week, which included some Thanksgiving bloat.   I hit all other goals except breaking my fast early 1 day.

Looks like good progress so far! I've been using LoseIt too - I love that you can set high calories days and adjust your plan!

RDL's are a great lift but like any movement of that kind they can cause injury. I hope you get back to them soon!

I think they are great too and never had an issue before.  I wasn't even lifting that much.  Thank you!

Monday

Busy day.  I had work and then class as usual.  As soon as I got home from class we turned around and went back out for DDG's grandson's chiristmas music program.  They live about 30 minutes away.  We grabbed Jimmy Johns on the way.  I did my usual routine and took everything off the sandwich, then ripped off about 1/4 of the bread and then reassembled.   I had a bag of BBQ chips with it and then grabbed a frozen yogurt bar from the freezer when we got home.  I was well under calorie target for the day.  

 

My back was feeling pretty tight and I had a chiro appointment so I found an empty room and did some stretches - cat cow, cobra, and child's pose.  Sitting on the bleachers at the school program undid everything.   Once we got home I got comfy on the couch and finished 1 more daisy square while we watched the Dial of Destiny.
