So shrimp it shall be. During one of our hanging-out-near-each-other sessions, I read the rest of Chapter nine and made many many notes. This is all going to be grand. I was looking forward to going back and reading the rest of the book (I have only read the first and last chapters at this point), and settled in on the couch, book in hand, when everything went tippy-weird, like being on a tilt-a-whirl ride, and it just got worse from there. I'm not going to lie: It was scary. All I could do was close my eyes and wait for everything to settle down. My meditation was "all will be well. breathe. (and please don't puke.)" It went on long enough that I needed to give in completely and go lie down in my room in the dark and just be done with any expectations of the day, and that's what I did. I plugged in the heating pad and set it at my lower back, mostly thinking it would be comfy, which it was, and it also was very helpful in having a center point. I wasn't spinning, the world was all fine. Breathe. After a few hours of that, it all was calm enough that I was able to get up and brush my teeth and get ready for sleep. This morning I woke up around 5:30 and was very gentle with myself in the dark. I know I need to be more proactive in helping my poor brain. I got up and put on my tennis shoes and found my shower things and one of my gym towels and put them in a bag. It took about 30 minutes to get everything together, just becuase I was moving that gingerly. I walked out of the building and crossed the street to the the gym. At the gym I did a mile on the track, then rowed 500 m on a rower, and did a set on each of the circuit machines. All of this was just enough to get the sense of "being in the gym" back, not really trying to set any landspeed records or anything. I don't even know what the weights settings were--i just adjusted them until they felt right. I'll care more about this later. Today's motto was Just Do It. After the weights room, I took my bag and went to the steam room and the sauna. Lord, I have missed this. Why did I ever stop? (I know why, and that's not important right now. What's important is what I'm doing today.) I took a shower and then walked home feeling better than I have in ages. I dropped my gym towel into the washer and went upstairs while the kettle boiled. I stripped the bedsheets and added them to the wash, and set them to do their thing. I dropped the gym clothes in the basket for a round of dark wash later, and got dressed for work. All was right with the world, and I logged in at 7:30, right on time. I was reading @Ranger Hal's D&D themed thread about a Viridian Forest, and that led me to @Artemis Prime's thread, which is also set up in D&D terms, and is also, somehow, similarly color coded. I have stats and abilities breakdown, but she has Actions, and I think I'd like to explore how this fits in with my Philosopher Librarian. Cantrips = 1 point per Cantrip.Daily Goals: Log in to work; Neaten the house; Update forum; Eat well; Good bedtime; Laundry; etc. Spellcasting See Philosopher Levels section for spells per day, modifiers, and saving throws N.B.: Michelle and legal things go here. Universal understanding, restore balance (dispelling touch) Universal advice +3 Applying her universal understanding to practical matters, the philosopher can find solutions to most mundane problems. This works much like the Aid Other action; the philosopher must spend as much time on the task as whoever she is trying to help does; this gives an automatic +2 bonus on any skill roll, attack roll, or to armor class made at the same time. Unlike the Aid Other action, this bonus applies as long as the situation remains unchanged, and even if the philosopher performs other actions. Inner peace (immune to confusion, fear, and compulsions) As she advances in level, a philosopher comes to realize the vanity of the world and the foolishness of mortal temptations. This gives her the ability to completely ignore various mental conditions as she advances in level. At level 3, she becomes Immune to Confusion. I was going old school paper and book, but it became too annoying to have to keep looking a Vampirate's AC was or my spell save. I had a terrible case of restlessness last night -- every time I would start to fall asleep, I'd end up with weird non-sleeping dreams and it was a lot. I finally fell into actual sleep around 3, and slept until 7. Fortunately, my head was fine when I woke up, but it was about an hour later than I usually get out of bed, and of course my first thought was welp, there goes my gym time. NO. NOPE NOPE NOPE. I cast a light spell of Restore Balance against the fearsome and likely-erroneous idea that if i didn't log in at 7:30, everyone would be mad. Look, they won't even notice, and they don't care. You are not the center of the current storm, and that's so nice, isn't it? followed by a level 2 Gumption spell, fetched my gym towel from the dryer, donned my shoes and off I went, grateful to past-me for having put all the shower things and water bottle and gym card in a bag by the door. At the gym, my nerves were still a bit of a mess about being "late," and I set them aside as I started along the track. They were nothing at all by the time I'd done a few turns, and I continued on in peace for the rest of the mile. In the weights room, I did 250m row, just enough to warm up my back and muscles, and then, with a sincere nod at the clock, I went downstairs to the steam room and sauna. The steam room turned into a full-on meditation space, and I'm not sure where I was for those 7 minutes, but thank you Universe. YES. Friends, this is the Way. I showered and made my way back to the Loft, waving at the staff on my way out. I hadn't made tea yet, so I did that, and while the kettle boiled, I added the gym clothes to yesterdays dark wash and tossed the whole lot into the washing machine along with the gym towel. I think I'll need to find a lovely basket to keep the gym towel and clothes in, becuase having them in a heap at the ready made a big difference in the Gumption success this morning. Again, as I logged in, I had the feeling that today was already a success. I'm off to check the West-March and see how we are all getting along. This is all good. I could really tell how off-kiklter I was last week (and everyone else was too) with the weird holiday schedule and all the overwork that seemed to bury us all. I elected not to go to Zazen becuase I was overwhelmed with work.
