Mama T
time to updateeee!07-06-12CF open gym. Mama needed some alone time with the barbell. mobilityrowing: 500m x 2: 2:15, 2:18I read this article on a simple way to do strength training, and decided to apply it to snatch & clean practice. If you don't want to read the article (even though you should, if you like all things Warrior), it basically is a workout based on your estimated 6RM max:Warm up set 1: 10 reps @ 50% of 6RMWarm up set 2: 6 reps @ 75% of 6RMWorking Set 1: ARMAP (with good form) @ 6RM. If your estimated 6RM is right, you should get 5-7 reps Working Set 2: AMRAP w/ adjusted weight based on Working Set 1 Hang snatch20lbs x10, 30x6, 40x7, 40x3, 40x2** my estimate 6rm was 40lbs, and it was spot on.Hang clean25lbs x10, 37x6, 50x11, 55x5, 60x3x2** my estimate 6rm was 50lbs, and it was a bit too light.power clean65x570x265x3then got sucked into doing 200 kb swings w/ my Oly coach, going in sets from #'s 1 - 20, sometimes stringing the sets together, and taking a break. jdanger
Good stuff as always. And oh boy.. the 6RM APRE program has been around for a long time (created by one of my man crushes Yuri Verkhoshansky). I didn't read the article but I hope he gave my boy some props. Anywho.. I'm a little trepidatious about applying this form of autoregulation to the Olympic lifts but as long as technique is the primary focus and you aren't trying to be a Baddass and hitting extra reps past form fatigue rock it out. Further down the spectrum once you're an intermediate lifter the lifts become too capricious to really gauge rep targets in this way but different forms of autoregulation can and are still widely used - think "day max" and "by feel" type prescriptions. It's a valid way to train and I was actually going to make a post involving it that got eaten a few days ago, weird timing. C'est la vie. Eat. Sleep. High bar squat. | Strength is a skill, refine it. That's what I've been finding lately too. Even with today's workout, I had full intentions on half assing it, but once I started I just pushed through and came out with a respectable time. Angie sounds nasty. We had that come up once, but it was during the Open, so I did whatever the open workout was that night. Which I think was the AMRAP 15 box jumps, 12 push press, toes to bar one.
