Barefoot Dawsy's Epic Gladiator Challenge - Challengers Needed!

Recommended Posts

[story]

Shanghaied. I suppose that's the best way to describe it.

I spent the weekend with my family. We had a laugh, ate some lovely food, did a few chores. Nothing unusual. Already it seems like a lifetime ago.

I woke up this morning to the sounds of screaming, cursing, and banging. The room was pitch black, and despite several minutes of blind fumbling, I couldn't find the light switch.

I sat in the dark, waiting for my eyes to adjust to the darkness, but with the complete absence of light, I saw nothing. Then I heard the sound of a key fitting into a metal lock on a metal door. I could hear its teeth straining as the rusty tumblers were forced to turn. A vertical sliver of light appeared, so bright I had to shield my eyes, then the room was flooded with light.

A filthy, stinking beast of a man stood in the doorway, a ring of keys in one hand and a crude mace in the other. He settled the key ring onto a loop in his belt, then reached behind him. By reflex alone, I caught the heavy pair of manacles that he flung at me.

"Put these on. Get up". he gurgled.

He led me outside to an open area where several dozen other manacled men and women were gathered. He gave me a push, and I fell headlong onto the sandy ground, then I heard the sound of a gate being swung shut behind me.

A man appeared above the edge of the tall wall that surrounded the yard. He was dressed in a garish robe, and had a sort of crown on his head. He raised his hands, and the assembled folk fell silent.

"Look around you. These people are now your closest friends and your most hated enemies."

"From this moment, you are no longer free men and women. You are the property of the Emperor. You will be treated as he sees fit. You will live as he wants you to live, and you will die how he wants you to die."

"From this moment on, you are the Emperors playthings. From this moment on, you are Gladiators."

As if this was explanation enough, he turned and left. We all looked at each other, bewildered. For the rest of the day, we were forced to run, lift and fight. We were teamed up, then torn apart, then forced together again. We were trained mercilessly until near sunset, then we were taken back to our cells.

That evening, I heard 2 of the adjacent cells being opened. I could hear a muffled roar as if from a million voices. It lasted no more than a dozen minutes. When it was over, I heard a single cell door open and shut again. Then I heard no more.

[The Challenge]

I had a whole bunch of goals in mind for this challenge, however they were derailed for one reason or another. To overcome this obstacle, I've devised a training schedule that is at the same time economical, and very effective. I've been trying it out for a couple of weeks now and am already pleased with the results. Now the true test begins.

Here are my goals:

1. 6 Days of Convict Conditioning Tabata: I'm using the CC progressions, but doing them Tabata-style with 8 sets of as many reps that I can do in 20 seconds, with 10 second breaks in between +2 STR +2 STA

2. Run: I need to run at least once a week. I've been finding it hard to get out lately, so this is very important +2 DEX

3. The big one: 1 PvP Challenge each week: See rules below +6 CHA (One per victory)

4. Australia: It looks like we're heading back to Australia. I've got 6 weeks to get everything ready! +3 WIS

[PvP Rules]

In order to complete my third goal for this challenge, I need competitors. I will take on any member of any guild in a PvP that follows the rules set out below:

  1. Each week I must face a challenger that I have not previously faced during this challenge
  2. Challenges cannot require any equipment
  3. Challenges must be completed in 10 minutes or less
  4. Each challenge must be unique and cannot involve exercises used in previous PvPs

If you would like to challenge, please reply to this thread.

I love the Gladiator Challenging theme you have going on. This warrior may need to think of something for a challenge (sans weights / etc). hmmmm....thinking cap is on.

If you plan to survive the arena you'll need to control yourself, both in mind and in body.

I challenge you to do nothing for 10 minutes.

Nothing. Just stand still in silence. You are not to think, to plan, to plot, or to focus upon one image.

Your eyes are to be closed, and you may open them only when the 10 minutes alarm sounds.

Your mind is to be breath and void, your body standing still, unmoving, relaxed.

You have to be in

specific
immobile (and
) for those 10 minutes.

Are you up to it?

Awesome! I had a sneaking suspicion that you would do something like this, although you have exceeded my expectations.

I just put up a mountain challenge in the PVP section if you want to use that to face me in the ring... although 10 minutes might not be enough time to finish...

To find piece with myself
I must first find a piece of myself

Wow. I don't know if you realise just what you've done here, but this may very well be the hardest thing you could ask. I accept! I'll put you down for week 1!

It's really hard to find a proper video showing the tai chi standing, so if you want we can arrange a skype/gtalk voice call so that I can explain the details that are crucial here, and you can get instant replies to your questions.

p.s. Sure thing ellisd012, hop on! :)

Wow what a great challenge for yourself Barefootdawsy!

I can't think of much I might beat you at but I love but I love Moredechaj's 10 mins of absolutely nothing challenge - I might have a crack at that myself! Maybe we could make it a guild challenge for ourselves? Did anyone find a video online of the Tai Chi standing position?

Regards

Quentin.

I already posted in your challenge thread, but I'm pretty sure you need a druid representation in your challenges. I said longest held handstand, but we could also do anything really...timed wheel pose? :) I may smile through everything but trust me, I'm competitive!
