I just finished the Malazan Book of the Fallen series and right now I'm reading Allen Carr's Easy Way to Stop Smoking and Ready Player One.

I'm three books into the Malazan BoF. I'm reading Americanah for a book club, and almost finished with House of Durrow Street. Anyone else use Goodreads to set a year goal?

Just finished Death's End, the last book in the Remembrance of Earth's Past trilogy. Incredible book. If you like your sci-fi heavy on the sci, this is definitely a series to check out. Translated from the original novels by Cixin Liu.

Just finished Antifragile : things that gain from Disorder by Nassim Nicholas Taleb and woaw, it was really mindblowing. Never met a book that challenged that much my opinions about almost everything in fact.

I'm currently finishing too You're not so smart by David McRaney which is actually as fun as getting slapped 50 times as it forces you to go through every bias you have... Quite challenging :)

Yaaay for Allen Carr, wishing you good luck on this path ! This book helped me to quit smoking and I didn't touch a cigaret for the last 7 months (something around, I can't even remember the time it has been) :)

The Productivity Project by Chris Bailey.

Listened to his interview on The Art of Manliness' Podcast and picked up his book. Interesting stuff! I don't follow the exercises but I had change some of my work routine to follow more closely to his teachings. So far I am seeing more work getting done in less time.

I just finished reading Malcom Mackay's Glasgow Trilogy (The Necessary Death of Lewis Winter, How a Gunman Says Goodbye, The Sudden Arrival of Violence) and the addendum (The Night The Rich Men Burned).  It's a pretty awesome crime drama series.  There is a lot of toying with perception and particularly how characters are reading/misreading the situation and how that impacts the actions and motivations throughout.  There's also a fair bit of world building and you see characters getting information that is unrelated to them but comes up in separate books (especially TNTRMB).

Just picked up a copy of All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr. This came highly recommended by a friend and colleague, but I put it off for months. After I could not find what I was looking for at the library yesterday, this was on display. I nabbed it without hesitation. The librarian called this "library serendipity," which is a real thing, btw.

I love when literature does this, especially in mystery. You're not sure who to trust, who's wrong or who's right (if anyone). This is especially fun when the narrator is unreliable.

It was awesome in crime drama. I haven't seen anyone use it to build intrigue and establish character like this author did.  One character might consider how the other people in a conversation will react three or four different ways, but another might just think about how they need to react to get on top.  It really divided characters between simple pawns in a scheme, master chess players, and bad chess players.

Just finished Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver. Not a big YA reader, read it on a recommendation, but I liked it. Now I'm reading Just One Damned Thing After Another by Jodi Taylor (I'm loving time travel adventures after getting hooked on Season 1 of Legends of Tomorrow) and listening to Behind Her Eyes by Sarah Pinborough on Audible when I drive to and from work. Love this thread btw!

This is my book club's March book. I am so excited to start it. I feel like I see that cover everywhere! I hope you enjoy it.

I also love the idea of "Library Serendipity". I totally believe it is a real thing.

I just finished As I Lay Dying by Faulkner. It was my first Faulkner and I really enjoyed it (as much as you can "enjoy" a book about a mother dying and her family's several day journey with her dead body). But man, you have to be prepared for stream-of-consciousness.

About to start my book club book One Second After by William Forstchen. I've heard from a couple book club members that it's really good, but I have to say it doesn't look like my style. We'll see. :D

Just finished Just One Damned Thing After Another. It was....Sigh...A great concept and a fun read. Thing is, it's riddled with errors: spelling, grammatical, words in the wrong place in sentences...Made me quite dislike the book, and, continue to dislike the author, as I had the same complaints with her book Poison. Oh well, on to the next book in line!

I'm currently re-reading the Alex Rider books - now on Skeleton Key.  Getting myself ready for the release of the new book this summer.  Even though I'm 34, I totally love teen spy novels...or any spy novel for that matter.  Love espionage, assassins, etc.  If you ever have a recommendation for a good spy series or something similar, I am always game. :-)

There is never a sudden revelation, a complete and tidy explanation for why it happened, or why it ends, or why or who you are. You want one and I want one, but there isn't one. It comes in bits and pieces, and you stitch them together wherever they fit, and when you are done you hold yourself up, and still there are holes and you are a rag doll, invented, imperfect.
