Milythael - Starting Over

Milythael contemplated his future. His deep cover assignment amongst the courtiers had left him soft in the most unfortunate ways. Sleep at all hours, and rarely much at all, consuming all manner of refined treats only available at the edges of royalty, indolent slothfulness his only activity. Each of these, though necessary to becoming invisible in the court, had cost him dearly. Considering the job was cancelled only hours before he reached his target, they hardly seemed worth the price. Now, he must prepare himself for the next job. Drastic measures would be required.

Goals:

Fitness

1) Whole 30 - complete the whole 30 program, starting on 8/6 (STA 1, CON 1, WIS 2)

2) Sleep reboot - spend at least 6 hours per night in a dark room with no electronics. (CON 3, WIS 1)

3) 6 days per week CC strength training (STR 3, DEX 1)

Life

4) 3 days per week fun in the sun (WIS 2, CHA 1)

Day 0 of Whole30.

I went through my kitchen chucking anything that doesn't seem like food anymore. Garbanzo beans, lentils, corn meal, flour, booze, country time lemonade mix, corn starch, sugar, honey. I forgot about the crystallized ginger. I'll have to find it and trash it today.

I made almost 2 lbs of salted amish butter into ghee or something like it.

I missed my Saturday pushups so I completed them on Sunday. 2x15 kneeling pushups.

I went to bed really late. I got to see Curiosity touch down on Mars. Four hours of sleep. It was worth it.

Day 1 of Whole30.

Carrying the detritus of a non-paleo pantry to the dumpster was a serious farmer's carry. The dumpster on my way to work is at least 1/6 mile from my apartment and I swear the trash bags were 20-30lbs each. I had to rest 3 times along the way for a couple seconds.

I ordered the following from U.S. Wellness Meats

  • 10 Pet Burger - 1 lb
  • 5 Beef Pemmican - Honey/Cherry Free Bar
  • 1 Small Marrow Bones
  • 1 Head Cheese
  • 1 Sugar Free Pork Bacon Ends
  • 1 Liverwurst
  • 1 Beef Tallow
  • 1 Sugar-Free Pork Bacon
  • 1 Beef Marrow Bone Stock Broth- 2.4 Pound Pail
  • 1 Braunschweiger
  • 1 Chicken Braunschweiger

I have no appetite today. I forced myself to eat my last 3 eggs at breakfast, because temptation at my desk is a bad idea. Running home at lunch time didn't affect my appetite at all. I cut a roast into steaks and ate 2, maybe 10 oz? At dinner, I will make my onion, tomato, squash saute. I'm curious how ghee will affect the taste.

It looks like tonight's horizontal pulls will be in the rain.

Day 1 of Whole30.

I ran barefoot, half a mile home for lunch, in the rain. I ran barefoot again, about 3/4 of a mile to the playground after work and did my horizontal pulls, again, in the rain. Last week, I did 3x10 on a shoulder height bar. I'm trying to build up enough strength to do them from the ground. First, I thought to go a little lower, but couldn't find a suitable bar. I tried to use the chains on the swings, but in the rain, I couldn't hold my weight on them. I just slipped. I decided to do 3x15 on the same bar. I'm not sure if it was too much, or just more difficult because of the wet bar but I only did 2x15 and I was spent.

After the exercise, my mood and energy plummeted. I felt ill, but still had no appetite. I walked to the market (again barefoot until I got there), and picked up some fruit and vegetables and some pecans. When I got home, I ate an avocado, an apple, and a grapefruit. Then I made my squash, onion, tomato blend with steak. I ate about half.

Day 2 of Whole30.

6 hours in the dark trying to sleep last night. I got 5 hours sleep, and spent the last hour with my eyes closed trying not to think about the time.

For breakfast, I'm having leftover steak and squash. Today's exercise is 3x20 straight bridges. Last week, 2x20 had me sore for almost 4 days. It will be interesting to see if it is better this week.

I like your idea of removing electronics while trying to sleep. I swear they emit some kind of crack like light particles. I have been avoiding the pc at night, and I sleep much better. I also will just lay in bed in the dark at night if I can't sleep, atleast I will rest my body that way.

Day 2 of Whole30.

3x20 straight bridges completed. I need to do a video of three different variations. From the research I've done, I seem to see the way I'm doing it, the way I think the book describes it, and the way people online do it and none seem to match.

One day of fun in the sun aka brief respite from the rain complete. I went to the pool.

So far, the food I've eaten has been Whole 30, but I have not eaten much. I have no idea what, or if, dinner will be.

5 hours of sleep, 1 hour laying in a dark room. I am 2/2 on sleep so far.

I went to bed without eating dinner last night. Still no appetite in the morning. This is not normal.

I like your fun in the sun goal- so much benefit!

I used to have a hard time sleeping- I have you read the section in Primal Blueprint about that? I don't sleep awesome, but better. The occasional mild night terror jolts me awake, but that's not in my control. I read encouraging books before bed- currently Chicken Soup for the Runners Soul. I go to sleep with those stories in my mind instead of whatever else is up there.

Day 3 of Whole30.

The appetite stuck his head out at lunch and returned full blast after lunch. I missed my constant companion while he was gone.

Lunch was 3 eggs scrambled with an onion sauteed in ghee, mixed with a tomato over lettuce.

Day 3 of Whole30.

Snack when I got home was 1 pemmican bar (no cherries or honey). OMG, yum. If you crossed the flavor of beef with that of butter and made it into a soft candy bar, this is what you would have. My next order may just be 100 pemmican sticks or a couple of pails.

Dinner may have been half an avocado, 2/3 lb of "pet burger", and part of a head of lettuce I was eating like an apple.

The fat content of the pet burger is really high. You do not need any extra oil in the pan. The organ meat keeps the flavor rich and wholesome.

Day 4 of Whole30.

Slept 5 hours without waking, tossed and turned for 40 minutes, slept another 40. The last hour of self-imposed exile is rough, but maybe my body is starting to catch on.

Day 4 of Whole30.

Breakfast was leftover pet burger with collard greens cooked in the drippings and a pemmican bar. There might have been an avocado but I can't remember. Lunch ended up being a tomato, some pecans, and another pemmican. If I didn't know better, I'd say I liked the stuff. Oh, yeah, I don't know better. I think I like pemmican better than ice cream.

I procrastinated until the rain started then tried to out wait the rain before work. I didn't get to the office until 8:30 am. This was a bad start to the day and I only lasted until about 4:00 or 4:30 before going home, instead of 6. I also had another unproductive day. I'm 2-3 days behind on my project. It is difficult to stay positive, but I've done okay so far.

This morning, I did 3x15 bent frog raises, learning my hamstrings are incredibly tight right now. Straightening my legs at 90 degrees was tough. I also did the first walk for the first assassins' mini-challenge. My feet hurt almost all the time, but walking barefoot seems to help. I need minimal shoes that pass at work.
