Good for you on delegating the wedding stuff. Next weeks stuff sounds mostly fun. You are very talented and creative making your own corset and table runner and a movie style poster program (that just sounds like such a cool idea!) Do we get to see pictures of finished stuff? The harassing people who have yet to RSVP doesn't sound fun- and I must confess that I am alsways slow or negligient in RSVP's. But, I will let any future daughter- in -law know for sure that I plan to attend,:smug:

Oh, yes! There will be pics galore. I'll probably throw them up in the woot room when our photographer finishes our package. :D The movie-poster style program is partially to give everyone who helped a shout-out. And, since my degree is in film and planning this wedding sure felt like producing a film, I'll give everyone appropriate labels. My dad, for example, who paid for the bulk of the wedding and supported all my crazy decisions, is definitely executive producer. My mom, sister, very best friends, and myself are probably associate producers. Mom is also head of wardrobe, location management, I am prop master, my brother is a grip, and so on. Oh, my photographer is the director of photography, of course, lol. So, yes. I'll probably sit down with a list of ALL the jobs in film and figure out what I should attach to whom.

My response to this week's challenge:

My goals for this challenge are going mostly ok. I'm making breakthroughs in my diet (goal is to eat cleaner to shed a couple percentage points of body fat) and flexibility. Due to moments of weakness, I might not get the 25% bf that I want this round, but I'm definitely building better habits. I feel like improved and new splits are practically in the bag since I found those stretches. I now believe that all necessary wedding stuff will get done, and a little bit more falls into place every day. Despite all this, I seem to keep underestimating how difficult doing a pull up is. I don't feel like I've improved the last couple workouts and maybe I need to back track a little. I'm working through progressions I read about here, but I'm impatient. I've been working toward pull ups since two challenges ago and still can't do one. Maybe I need to change this goal, but I'm not sure to what yet.

1 year goal: Either get a better job making at least $25k/yr OR light a fire under the possible money-making projects I want to start and be able to live off those.

5 year goal: Have a car and a house. If we're going crazy here, I hope to not be in Nebraska anymore and instead be back in Texas or some other state with a favorable climate and stuff I want to do. Being closer to my siblings would be great.

10 year goal: Pay off my student loans. My payment plan goes for 20 years, but I do NOT want to turn 40 and still be paying for what I did when I was 20. I know a lot of people do that, and most students don't have a choice anymore, but I want to do better. If I get a $25k/yr job, my fiance's brilliant financial management skills will actually have my loans paid off AND a decent car in about 5 years, but in my environment, dreams must be either flexible or ignored. It's very difficult for me to imagine what will come in ten years when so much hinges on a call I hope to get tomorrow or next week.

To elaborate, I'm pretty damn proud of how well I've been eating. TWO (WORK) DAYS IN A ROW I said no to free baked goods. Y'all. There was cake on Tuesday. I was off yesterday, but today there were some beautiful donuts. I said no to all of it and instead ate a burger patty with bleu cheese and grilled veggies, reminding myself that I will probably let loose at my friend's wedding this weekend. Some aspects of primal diet are more bearable now. Some days I'll feel like I ate SO MUCH FOOD and I'm way under on my calories and carbs, actually over on protein, and in a reasonable window for fat. It's starting to be a pretty cool feeling. Those calipers aren't budging yet, but if I keep this up I think they will.

Now, when I eat sweets, I'll get part way through where I start feeling, "I've made a huge mistake," but I'm still in the range where I'll finish the treat anyway because I can't stand to throw it out, but I also don't want it to tempt me later. It's almost a waste to let my fiance have whatever it is because he's likely to forget about it, and it'll go bad. Life is short. Have your dessert and enjoy it, and learn to take smaller portions so you don't overindulge.

Natural forces have hampered my working out. Last week was food poisoning, this week I think my tetanus vaccine is backfiring. My whole shoulder joint is aching like hell! I can slowly stretch it out and it'll feel ok for a few minutes, then it freezes up again. I've never heard of this from a tetanus shot - muscle soreness, sure, but not my joint straight up refusing to do what it's supposed to. It's been 24 hours; hopefully it's better tomorrow.

I'm considering doing a little less with my weight training (comfort zone) and moving to body weight routines for a while. Maybe that will give me the push I need. The Batman workout on the blog today is pretty cool, so maybe I'll see what I can do to modify it for me. I trust that gymnast guy. His wrist stretches from the handstand tutorial are really helping me in daily tasks. The giant iced tea maker I have to empty at the restaurant in the morning isn't as heavy as it used to be, and when busing tables I can grab four glasses in my fingers instead of three. Some jars are still pretty tough though. :( Never mind my pull up disappointment. I feel like I damn near max-out every workout, but I don't feel improvement. Was I really that weak starting out?! When doing pull up attempts now I reach maybe 3" and an instinctive knee tuck sort of just happens. I doubt I can get another 9" on my pull ups in 3 weeks.

Let's see...am I leaving anything out....? If I am I'll just have to write about it later. I love seeing everyone's progress! Have a good week!

Yesterday the almost-husband and I got our application for marriage license notarized! So his grandparents witnessed for us and brought us to dinner. I'm not used to eating out so I didn't worry myself much with low carb but passed dessert. Today some of my best friends got married and I am so glad I didn't say no to their blackberry pomegranate cupcakes!

Just did two rounds of split training and my left split is officially improved!!! Hopefully another split is attained for the first time soon here. Also gonna sit down and figure a seating arrangement.

Workouts from this weekend:

Yesterday I did two rounds of split training. Tonight I did Steve's basic bodyweight workout. Honestly, I haven't had a workout give me that good of an ass-kicking in a while. I'll be switching to this for a while, see if it helps anything.

Usual warm up.

3 Circuits of the following:

20 bw squats

10 push ups

20 walking lunges

10 dumbbell rows (1 arm at a time @ 25lbs)

30s plank (original says 15s, but I'm so used to hollow body I had to double it)

30 jumping jacks

Walked around for a bit, then came back to my apartment for a round of split stretches. Good news! Now able to hold left split for about 10-15s; right and middle splits are less than 6" off the ground. There's hope yet for BOTH by the time this challenge is over.

Making exciting progress with the splits! Also I think the calipers are starting to consistently read 27% body fat. Yeah, I know they're not the most accurate method, but who can argue with a $5 tool that is slightly less deceptive than a number on a scale?

Week 3 Wrap Up: Only two workouts, but there was an extra day that was just stretching. I need to find some kind of plateau-busting exercise for my pull-muscles because what I've been doing for the last month isn't cutting it anymore. Ever since I started keeping a tally of consecutive clean-eating days, I haven't had more than two consecutive non-clean days (The current tally reads 2 clean, 2 not, 1 clean, 1 not, 3 clean, 1, 1, 2, 1). My willpower with food is definitely getting better in ways I didn't picture ever happening. On a day that I'm determined to eat clean, I'm able to say no to all kinds of delicious crap, as detailed earlier this week. My wedding day is three weeks from yesterday (!!!!!) and the master task list is dwindling. Seating chart is done, and basically every guest's RSVP is accounted for. Out of inviting about 130 people, about 75 are coming. We're a little disappointed by this number, but apparently this is a terrible year for most of our friends to try to travel. Never mind the two years notice we gave them. But I guess it's easy to forget something that you're not spending almost every day planning. :P

Week 4 Missions:

1. Now that I know how many tables we're having, make enough numbers.

2. Design escort cards with everyone's names to put on the entry table.

3. Get contact info to girls who are planning bachelorette parties.

4. THE PROGRAM!!

5. Make sure all the paper work is in place for my sister's meeting with the venue this week.

6. Email visual materials to the cake baker.

7. Now that our buddy minister is married and his wedding madness is over, let's have him get our ceremony together. :)

Love the table cards-what fun! When is your actual wedding ? Seems like everything is coming together-it s goiing to be an awesome day.

Tell me when you figure out what to do to break the pull plateau- thats part of why I switched to chin ups because I was frustrated with my pull up lack of progress

Workout from yesterday:

Last night I did my warm up, then 3 circuits of the following:

10 neg. pull ups

10 push ups

10 hanging knee tucks

10 headstand push ups

16x180-degree jumps

Above took about 18 minutes, then spent about another 20 minutes on split training. Really starting to feel my hip joints loosening up!

And then, hold it, hold it - my fiance has been saying for a week or so "Man, I really need to start working out!" He hasn't for about a year. Last night he registered on NerdFitness!! I think he's in the ranger guild. He's mostly a lurker, but I think once he sees how friendly this crowd is, he'll want to post his progress. He asked me to help him set up a regimen for what he wants to work on (core, posture, running). So I spent about an hour and a half demonstrating different things for him, and to his frustration he discovered he'd been doing lots of exercises wrong ever since he was a kid. As in, he was taught wrong. Big surprise. Anyway, so that's just something cool. Maybe now I'll have a workout buddy and won't have to truck off to the gym by myself as often now. I'm officially his personal trainer. :)

In other news, did not get the Verizon call center job. I'm pretty crushed about it. Plus I'm worried about my friend who was brought to the ER this morning with an obstructed bowel. She's in the best (only?) hospital in town. If she needs surgery, I hope they get in and out clean, no infections, and maybe they'll go wild and give her a hysterectomy that will alleviate many of her debilitating endometriosis symptoms.

Regarding the job, I'm tired of hearing "Oh, something will come, don't worry!" No it won't. I have to go find it. I'm ok with that, really, but I'm running out of optimism. I don't understand what I could've said in the interview for them to decide not to hire me. I thought (read: everyone around me said) I've got this job in the bag - all kinds of people get jobs in call centers and I'm great material for it. Evidently not. I continue to feel like I'm professionally useless. Everything I look at I'm either not qualified, qualified but they hire someone else, or only marginally qualified and get no response to my application. I'll work all the harder on getting my site up for custom invitations and launching a webcomic I'm thinking about, but I'm not convinced those will have success that's more than sporadic.

I'm sorry about the job. I think its just really hard to get jobs now. Maybe it will be an opportunity, as you said, to grow your business. Have you checked out books that tell you how to market stuff successfully? Maybe spend some of your time invetigating that if you haven't already done so. I think the idea of custom invitations is great, but yea in order to make money you will need a pretty consistent market.

Have you checked out books that tell you how to market stuff successfully? Maybe spend some of your time invetigating that if you haven't already done so. Thanks, lady. The sales lady who works with bridal couples at my restaurant job (they also host wedding receptions), as well as the director of services might help me get connected in the wedding industry network. I know I can make a good product that makes the client happy, but networking is a serious weak point and I need all the help I can get. Hopefully these women I work with will help. I'd like to pick up some marketing/networking books, but I need time to figure out what the "right" ones are.

Fiance's update (this is just funny to me because I've been there): He worked so hard on his core routine I designed for him, and today he was supposed to do his running routine, but he was way too sore. He thought he was going to dive right into a brutal routine and bust his chops every time and just keep barreling through. Someone's expectations have been adjusted. Just as mine were. Even though I tried to warn him. :)

Yesterday and today I dealt with my job disappointment by eating things I shouldn't (not binging, but relatively small sweets scattered around add up). Tomorrow I'm making dessert for some friends I'm entertaining, so that won't be such a clean-food day, either. In the future I need to make a priority of finding ways to deal with anxiety/depression that don't derail my fitness goals. At the moment, it's hard to get into that kind of constructive mindset because I know how many WORSE things people do to deal with feelings (smoke, drink too much, skip classes or work, yell at people, be mean, etc.) that what I'm doing doesn't sound near so bad by comparison. When I'm upset, I'm sulky and almost inconsolable, but my mood starts lifting after some chocolate cake or thick brownies. I just have to deal with it in my own way on my own time. Maybe this calls for an inspiring Pinterest board...embarrassing as it may be to admit it, maybe it would help. :P

Yesterday:

Usual warm up, waited on fiance to get himself ready to come to the gym with me. We were expecting company later so I rushed through mine.

3 Circuits of:

10 neg pull ups

10 push ups

10 hanging leg lifts (only got my feet about 8 inches off the ground but I'm REALLY feeling it)

10 headstand push ups

20 walking lunges

Took about 19 minutes, then rushed through about 15 minutes of stretching. I'm feeling it today mostly in my abs and a little in my hip joints. Regretting rushing through it. I don't feel as fulfilled as a workout where I take my sweet time on each rep.

I'm getting married two weeks from today!! Not totally sure I'll hit 25% bf by then, but I'm consistently reading 27% (25% happens on a great day, in the best of circumstances to measure). I'm in the process of checking with my property manager to see if we're allowed to have those pull up bars that hang off your door frame. I think my pull up goal will come much faster if I can practice every time I walk in or out of the bedroom. :) Not totally sure I'll reach a right or middle split, either, but I've made a lot of progress and I push myself a little more each time I stretch.

Feeling more optimistic this week, and have also had lots of carbs/sugar that maybe I shouldn't have, AND got a new (to me) computer!! Very excited to work with a 22" monitor instead of my 17" laptop. Tonight I'm thinking of a stretching overhaul before bed and some kind of upper body haul tomorrow.

Just did 20 min of split stretching. Instead of holding each stretch for 60s, however, I held each for 10 slow breaths. I'm waiting for the part where the stretches don't hurt my joints as much anymore. But then, I guess it's only been two weeks. What sucks is I can't even get into my nice left split because my flexors are so sore. My right split feels like I could *almost* get it, but again with the flexors. There's no way that's just how far my hips can go, but it feels like that. Kind of aggravating.

Week 4 Wrap Up:

Only two workouts, and diet derailed for a while because I had junk in the house. Junk is now out, pretty much. And I've gotta eat all the food left in my fridge before I leave town for my wedding! Already updated my bf % according to the calipers, so I hope I haven't screwed it up too much with a few days off track. Today I spent a huge amount of time on wedding stuff - made program, made seating chart list, made a couple extra table cards since it turns out each table only seats 6 instead of 10 like I thought. I'm about to go to bed, so no workout today. Sort of forgot while I was working my graphic design magic and freaking out about centerpieces (problem solution: use old sci-fi books with action figures and various other toys and arrange them nicely! Relatively cheap except for the $100 the fiance spent on some lego sets for 3 tables). In other news, I have reason to believe I pulled my hip flexors? They're not so bad today, but yesterday was pretty rough. It's a setback I'm not sure I can overcome in time to get splits back on track. :(

Plans for this week:

Tuesday - work, get allergy shots, get latest projects printed, workout if time permits, hang out with friends who will move to Glasgow soon.

Wednesday - work, compulsively check my list to see if there's anything I can do, workout/stretch

Thursday - work and work. Only workout if I'm feeling super-ambitious

Friday - work and workout. Bachelorette party!

Saturday - recover from party....

Sunday - prepare for trip and workout

No workout yesterday... Ended up passing out sleeping for a while.

Today's workout though:

Warm up

3 circuits of:

3 pull up attempts (on my bedroom door, for lack of a pull up bar)

10 push ups

30s hollow body*

10 headstand push ups

20 walking lunges

Above took about 16 minutes, plus 13 min of stretching - not split training this time. Just trying to recover my pulled flexors...Splits just ain't happening this challenge.

*Not sure what happened to my hollow body, but suddenly 30s is REALLY hard and I even had to pause. Maybe because I couldn't watch the clock this time. Time to figure out a rotating workout program.

First workout since I became convinced I pulled my flexors. I looked up some recovery stretches and tried them out. Very disappointed that I probably won't make that split goal now. Just bending over or crouching, I can feel a tightness in the back of my hips. I also need to reexamine my posture for hollow body. I know the guy in the video says to press your lower back into the floor, but by the time I'm fully extended it's only my hips and shoulders/upper back touching the floor. When my best was 45s, this was kind of killing my lower back at the end of it. I'm not sure what to do about that anymore.

Maybe for this week's guild challenge I'll look at my favorite exercises for each muscle group, and figure out a rotating routine. Up until recently I haven't done the exact same workout twice, but I've done enough different exercises now that it's ok to repeat my favorites and track my progress.

Ok!! I know I'm hella late doing my wrap-up. I'm basically on vacation for wedding/honeymoon activities for the last week of this challenge, the off week, and the first week of next challenge. Still deciding whether I'm doing the next challenge.

1. Body fat decimation part 1 - only +1 WIS for this. I was doing ok, then I went on vacation. I'm surrounded by stuff I rarely keep in my house, and everything is DELICIOUS and WONDERFUL. So, my bodyfat is probably higher right now than when I started, but I'm on vacation. I refuse to concern myself with it until I get back home.

2. Flexibility - Only +1 DEX for it. I was doing well until I pulled those damn flexors. I'll do a redux of this goal later when they're healed enough.

3. Strength - Still no pull up. Slight improvement, so +1 STR.

4. Life goal - This was to get all the stuff for my wedding done, and ENJOY it! It was very stressful and difficult, but in the end everything was great! Sadly, because so many elements of my wedding were DIY, everything that wasn't directly related to the wedding or traveling had to be put on the back burner. So, +2 CHA and +2 WIS.

I participated in a couple of the guild challenges, but I don't remember what I earned, so I'll add nothing for it. Just gotta work harder next time! Reflection: this challenge turned out to have terrible timing for me, aside from my slips. Now that my wedding is over and I embark on my honeymoon tomorrow, everything after that is a new adventure unhampered by two years of planning, snarky families, and incompetent friends. Woo hoo! Bring on the next chapter of my life!
