The bet is on. No excuses!

I guess it is time to start recording my stuff publicly... at least the exercise part. My main goal right now is to form a habit. They say it takes 3 weeks for you to create a new habit, so for the next 3 weeks, i'll do my set of exercises everyday, if not i'll have to play and listen to 5 ABBA songs, and that is... torture!! (I am sorry ABBA fans)

I have just started exercising after years and years of doing nothing other than working and sitting on the computer. Therefore i am starting small... A little something everyday is better than nothing at all right? Baby steps towards the right direction!

So this is what i am doing: It is based on the hacker's diet, with a few additions here and there (thank you flourless!) The exercises start small and then increase in number of repetitions and eventually difficulty. What i like is that you do it at your own pace. This is the second time i am trying to start this, the first time i stopped after a while (get ready for a lame excuse here)

<< ohhh i feel so lousy!!! my back hurts!!! I won't do it... just today!!>>

Guess what?? the next day became a just today too, and so on. So i decided to start over... from the very beginning.

It is divided in rungs... the beginners level goes from rung 1 to 15. I am on rung one.

Bends - 2 (this one feels more like a stretching to me than anything else, Even at my fattest state i have always been able to touch my toes!)

Sit ups - 3 (the first day, i could hardly lift my head from the floor, now i am on day four and i can actually lift it so i see my ankles!)

Lift leg - 4/leg (Lie face down on the floor, legs slightly apart, with the palms of your hands under your thighs. Lift your left leg, bending at the hip and knee, while simultaneously lifting your head from the floor. Smoothly lower both your head and leg. Then lift your right leg and head in the same manner -- i must say, it was a piece of cake with my right leg, the left leg was way harder, but i feel that it is starting to "feel" right)

Push ups - 2 (It is knee push ups. It is hard enough to get two done with my knees on the ground - i guess this one is the hardest one for me. My upper body has never been strong)

Run and Jump - 75/7/30 (this means 75 high steps, counting when the left foot touches the floor, 7 jumping jacks, and another 30 high steps -- i still get all kinds of breathless by the end of it)

Things i have added:

shoobie's sit ups thingys - 10 of each (i am not sure how to call these in English. I used to do them when i trained capoeira (brazilian martial arts). They are basically for your lower abdomen and sides -- so 30 total)

Heel and toe walk - 6 (3 of each style -- i walk back and forth in my 2m tiny living room)

squats - 6 (i must say that along with the push ups, these were the hardest ones -- my legs are not used to it anymore -- it didn't -hurt- just felt uncomfortable)

Reverse Plank - 6 (that one was easy for some weird reason)

In 4 days i am supposed to go to rung 2! Hopefully the squats and push ups will feel easier to accomplish by then!!!

In 3 weeks, after this habit and a couple of others (involving me keeping myself organized) are settled, i'll try and start walking maybe? We'll see how it goes!

This may seem small and too little... but i'll get there!

You'll get there, shoobie!

I walked today, and you did your routine, so we're tied. Saturday is your best chance to pull ahead. I don't even know where I'll -be- at 8:30 Saturday morning, other than "probably some hotel between here and there." With luck, it'll have a fitness room with a treadmill, because walking around at dawn in some strange city sounds like a bad idea. :)

Your are doing great shoobie and flourless, stick with it and I know you both can as I know you are both strong enough to stick to your guns. Eventually it will just become second nature, I am noticing that with my bike rides I go on, cause if I am not able to do it cause of things going on around the house I feel let down and upset that I didn't go on the bike ride and I also feel actually like I did something completely wrong that little thing in your head that steps up with the megaphone and says ( "HEY!! what were you thinking!!" ). And yes they will become easier for the most part shoobie, maybe easy isn't the right word but you will be able to do them easier it just takes time to get the muscles in tuned to what you are putting them through its areas you haven't been working out so of course its going to be difficult at first. And also in response to flourless maybe just walking around the hotel perimeter or I the hotel depending on the size of the hotel if there is long hallways and stairs in it. You two can both do this I know it, don't let me down and don't let me let myself down either, we are all in this together although I don't have to worry about Abba :P

A family walk at 8am? Hah! Maybe if I was willing to carry the small-fry on my shoulders... ;)

3 weeks of walking every morning seems difficult at two times of day. Right after I've finished walking (when I realize how much more chaotic morning routines will be on vacation and once school starts) and right before I go to bed (when waking up at 6:15 sounds like a -really- bad idea.)

By noon, the walk has just become another part of the morning.

nuh huh!!! I won't need to find any ABBA... coz i will win this bet!

If you want to make it harder on yourself by -having- to do it by 8:30 am even with a week vacation in paradise -and- the small-fry going back to school, that's up to you, dear... but i am good with you just walking... exercise is exercise no matter what time of day ;)

No, no. That's all right!

Hmm. I'll keep score both ways, though! I'd like to have it all done by 8:30 most days. Leaves me more time for the rest of my fun!

Right... I am up, I've had breakfast and i have done my exercise routine.... The squats felt easier today and so did the run and jump part. the push ups are still very hard and after 2 knee push ups i feel my arms all wobbly and like jello...as for the custom sit ups, i am increasing them by one repetition per day.

Cranking up the music to eleventy really helped me get through it all in a more pleasant way too... I'm feeling good!!!

Oh and today i have to run some errands!! I have decided that i will walk instead of taking the bus. It is not that far!! about 5 Km round trip!

Mmmm... to be completely honest... i was happy i did it... but didn't enjoy doing it! I think i'll need some motivation for that as in "a spoonful of sugar makes the medicine go down" type of thing.. i am not sure how i'll do it, but i am not worried yet... i still have 3 weeks to find that motivation! We'll see :D

Ok, so after waking up and being lazy for 3 hours in bed... i decided to stretch some and put my clothes on and head out for a walk. I walked 4.5 km today... i did stop in the middle of it and made sure i looked like a crazy woman doing my exercise routine right there by the beach.... tourists looking at me with that "these brazilians are weird" type of look... and the fellow brazilians looking at me with the "WTF are you doing" look... oh well...

I still have to get stuff done for the day... but the exercise bit is done!! My right foot hurts for some odd reason.. it might be my tennis shoes.... maybe i should try the bare foot walking thing?

I would check into the barefoot walking thing as it was just recently mentioned that barefoot walking isn't really all that great unless you build up in baby steps as in like 100yards and such till you get accustomed to it as the toes tend to spread when walking barefoot and cause ligaments to move in ways they are not used to and end up causing more pain after. But I would check into it on your own to make sure and do whatever feels comfortable as its no fun to do something that you know is going to cause you (bad) pain. But I know you can do this, there is no doubt in my mind. You will find that groove and stick in it and soon enough you will not be looking back :)

So, last night i was supposed to go to rung two... but I didn't! I had a hard day walking around like crazy and taking tests that added up to 10 hours!!! 240 questions and an essay.... and about 7 km of walking to get to the test locations... When i got home my legs were aching like mad, so i decided to wait some to get my routine done... i ended up doing it at 5 am... just for the sake of doing it really.... as i was tired, i decided to not change the runs... i will do today tho!

So things were a bit harder today... I started rung 2.... it felt like a whole load of work to be honest... i am aching all over.... good type of ache tho...

The rung 2 consists of

Bend - 3

Sit up - 4

Leg lift - 5 each leg

Push up - 3 (this one was -HARD-)

Steps - 140 (7 jumping jacks when you get to 75 steps and then 65 more steps)

Shoobie's sit ups - 48

Heel and toe walk - 8 (4 of each)

Squats - 8

Reverse plank - 8

There was no walking today.. My legs still feel week from yesterday...

*poke**poke* You're not posting.....

I had an excuse, but now I'm home from vacation, and intent on pestering you!

I got exercise evvvvvvery day I was gone. Of course, since the plan of the vacation was to walk around a theme park, then walk around the zoo, then walk on the beach - that shouldn't really be too surprising. ;)

I know i haven't been posting you pokety-poke person!!! lol

My week has been quite chaotic with a bunch of stuff to deal with, fires to put out and stressful events here and there.... so didn't really have the peace of mind to post anything. However, i have been doing my routine everyday... still on rung 2... still hard as hell... but i am getting there... i have walked on and off but nothing that was really worth recording... it was either going to the store or to moms apartment and so on... Oh and my weighting balance broke!!! according to it i weigh 23kg now

This next week will be hell as well as i will be moving! Looking on the bright side, i'll be lifting boxes and squatting here and there and stretching here and there too... so it cant be that bad! i intend to keep doing the routine first thing in the morning, before logging in to the computer... that way i get it out of the way and dont have to think about it after a long day.

I am not sure if i am sore due to the whole packing and organizing i have been doing or because of the exercise routine. I am still struggling with rung two, and that tells me i will spend more than a week on this one. This is fine tho... i gotta do it in my own pace!

Doing it first thing after breakfast is working quite well, as it is something i don't really enjoy doing... and it just gives me the feeling of "yayyy!!! i am free for the rest of the day!!!"
