cline
Btw, obstacle courses are a lot of fun. Worth it if you find the right fit. I AM going the distance 'Cause all I wanna do is go the distance. Nobody's ever gone the distance with Creed, and if I can go that distance, you see, and that bell rings and I'm still standin', I'm gonna know for the first time in my life, see, that I weren't just another bum from the neighborhood. jimmie65
Yeah, they are a bit pricey. Fordzaphod and I have been meaning to try one of these out for a while, but we didn't want to do the one that makes you walk through electricity. That just knocks it out of the realm of fun physical challenge into something resembling masochism. I have a feeling I'll be so slow going over the rope climbing obstacles, I won't have to wait for anybody, although the people in the following wave will probably have to wait for me. :-PElectricity wouldn't bother me so much. Ropes might; I can do nets and walls but rope climbing straight up not so much.Nice job on getting your 5k goal!ThanksSaaaweet! Is a huge milestone.Btw, obstacle courses are a lot of fun. Worth it if you find the right fit.Yeah, I think you're right. Money and crowds are probably more of an excuse than anything else. jimmie65
Challenge update:Tuesday ended up being a rest day. A weekend of burpees and no rest on Sunday caught up with me.Goal #1 -10 pull-ups - might put this on hold while the sprint mini-challenge is going on.Goal #2 - 5k in 30 min - done. Now working, conveniently enough, on sprints. Goal #3 - 60 mile bike ride - bike is in the shop; bent rim and a tune-up. Should have it back in time for a 40 miler Saturday.Goal #4 - diet - Did really well until yesterday, when i was craving carbs (blew it at lunch). Oh well, it's a new day today.Goal #5 - new places. 1/3 done. I hiked/walked at a new park in my area after work yesterday. Our new mini-challenge is sprinting. I'd already planned on a 100 meter and 3 50 meter sprints; so upped it to 4 of each. First on the sheet! jimmie65
Nice job on the sprints! Good luck on the barefoot runs - what is your plan to get that going?I've done a few 1/4 and 1/2 mile runs. Probably going to start with a 1/2 mile barefoot run twice a week and see how that goes. What sucks is that I have to do this on running trails and sidewalks; going on rough trails is probably not going to work real well. I did a 1.5 mile trail run/stumble after work yesterday in my GoRuns and my feet are killing me right now. Texas is not a place for barefoot trail runs. Samunwal
For new places, troll the county government websites in your area. A lot of the time they'll have some pretty neat parks that just don't show up on maps at all (especially Google maps), or on web searches that aren't really specific. I've found some great camping/hiking/running options near me that way I'd have never found any other way.Great work on the sprints. I'll see what I can do tomorrow, but the last time I did intervals, I was crippled up for a couple of weeks so I'm going to be really cautious. I do have to do my exercises Sunday afternoon and I should probably let everything rest at some point. Find any great new parks yet? For the barefoot running, if you use a mid-foot strike, the sidewalks are no problem. Yuo'll know if you're using a heel strike 'cause it'll hurt like hell. It really is a self correcting problem (unless, of course, you're a complete masochist or imbecile, and you strike me as neither).
