NF character generator: Find your guild!

Recommended Posts

I just want to give some massive props to Nuala for this. Without the generator I'd not have been able to get started with the current challenge. I'd tried twice before without being able to sort it all out in my head and this just made everything click.

With that, I think I'm almost done with the guild selection. Next step: improving the race selector and then maybe I'll put the generator in beta.

...

Maybe :P

Upt:

Changed the character name description for:

Hulk, Thor, Xena, Conan, Staci. They can crush their enemies with their strength

Lara Croft, Nathan Drake, Desmond Miles. Not really strong, but their agility makes for it. No mountain is too high, no mansion is shut down for them.

Chun Li, Elektra, Daredevil, Rock lee. Master in their art.

Simon Belmont, Samus Aran, Indiana Jones. Because they have many different skills to help them getting out of any situations.

Mario Bros, Flash, Roadrunner, Sonic the hedgehog. They can outrun anyone!

Link, Princess Peach. Because every journey has a start and skills is something that grows along with us.

Dhalsim, Shaolin monks, Shiva. Because their body grows along with their spirituality.

This really helped me out. Creating characters is always hard for me but it gave me great results. Thanks so much!!!

Notes-

I loved the feel of it. It made me feel like I was starting my adventure. I wish there was more options for the book part. Like I chose the cookbooks cause I love cooking so it makes sense but bedtime reading is always adventure or fantasy. (But I think that is more a personal nitpick)

I loved how you even added the signature change thing. It really helped.

I tried this a few weeks ago in its early stages and just tried it again. Love the improvements. This is pretty cool. Both times it seems to think I should be an Assassin, barely edging out my chosen Ranger. But, I do like the updates to the questions and the scoring of the questions. Awesome work!

Rangers are tricky, I think I will add a question about what the user thinks about specialisation and separate the different classes into specialised (warrior, druids...) and not specialised (rangers, adventurers). That question will probably be worth a lots of points.

The generator agrees with my class choice now, so I think you've fine tuned it much better for the generalist. Before it was an almost even split between three classes, with ranger trailing. It also helped me upgrade my sig! It's a very cool tool.

Freaking awesome. The problem is when I am ready to move into another guild, my second choices are equally assassin, scout and ranger. As if I wasn't confused enough :)

The next update should clear all your confusions.

I added a question:

What do you think about specialization?

  • It's not my thing. I want to do everything!
  • It's what I aim for! Everything I'll do will be only to help me become a master.
  • Neither for or against.

No checkbox but radiobox instead. So only one choice is possible. In my opinion guild can be separated like this:

Highly specialised:

- Warriors

- Monks

- Druids

Not specialized but focus on one theme:

- Assassins (bodyweight theme)

- Scouts (moving around theme)

Not specialized:

- Rangers

- Adventurer

So, if you check "It's not my thing. I want to do everything!", Warriors, monks and druids will lose a lot of points. If you check "It's what I aim for! Everything I'll do will be only to help me become a master." of course rangers and adventurers will be the one who will lose some points and so on.

Problem is, radio button makes my calculations a little more difficult so It will take me a little more time to debug everything. It will be done today hopefully.

Typo in the final dialogue. Seeing is misspelled

"seing one of its member going to train elsewhere for a while"

Overall I love the improvement. I used to have Ranger barely in front of assassin and warrior. Now it is is obvious. Awesome work.

Typo corrected. If you see other mistakes or sentences that could be improved, please tell. English is not my first language, so my sentences can be a little heavy or clumsy...

Fixed:

- When you change your choice for specialization, the calculation is re-initialised (Ie, I give points again where I removed them earlier)

- The label on flexibility was not there

For the radio box I have:

It's not my thing. I want to do (or try) everything!

Highly specialised:

- Warriors -20

- Monks -20

- Druids -20

It's what I aim for! Everything I'll do will be only to help me become a master.

Not specialized:

- Rangers -20

- Adventurer -20

Neither for or against. I can do many different thing as long as they have a similar root.

- Warriors -10

- Monks -10

- Druids -10

- Rangers -10

- Adventurer -10

Any willing to test?

Did a test for you, and when I was down to the specialization question, I had a tiny sliver in favor of warrior. Picked an option and it stayed at a sliver, picked a different option and it jumped up. But then I went back to the original option and it had less but not nearly as little as there was when I originally chose it.

As for my results, I've still filled the bar for assassin but I've tied for monk and druid for second place, and those are pretty high as well, which I think is a fair assessment of what I aim for in my journey.

Thanks for your feedback! I'll re-check my calculations again as soon as my brain will be available. And you also reminded me that I should also do something in case of equality between 2 guilds.. But I will probably keep that for the beta version.

Special thanks to Aeryn who took the time to proofread my text! I hope I didn't forget any spelling mistakes. I feel like this page is advanced enough to be put in Beta. Meaning that the core of the code has been done and that I can focus on some less necessary add-on, like generating different kind of signatures, allowing a choice if 2 or more guilds are tied in the first place, improving the design of the page could be nice too (if there is a graphic designer willing to help, that would be awesome, That's definitely not my speciality), adding a calendar to explain when the next challenge is, improving the competence points system, adding more help and explanations, improve the story and the dialogues with the "old man"... That kind of stuff.

I'm of course open to any suggestions, if you think it's good we can still work on it to make it even better!
