Haikoo Breaks Out of Her Funk

Haikoo

Recommended Posts

I'm in a funk. I really don't know why. I feel down, negative, depressed, tired, defeated and frustrated. It's just a little of everything in life compounding, I'm sure. I'm usually cheerful and happy and able to take the day. I don't like feeling like this. It's time to break out, and these goals (among a few other things) are going to help me break out.

Goal #1: Complete a Whole 30

It began yesterday (Sept. 24). I have been eating fairly well lately, but this will just help clean the rest of the junk from my body, hopefully making me feel better. Hubby is doing it, also, so we have each other to lean on. Day 30 will be October 22.

Goal #2: Century Push (The http://hundredpushups.com/ program)

I set out to do this during my first challenge but hurt my shoulder and could not complete it. This time I am completing it. I just want to do all the pushups, even if I can't do 100 in one set by the end.

Goal #3: Get some blood to my brain (and work those core muscles)

I'm going to do headstands. I keep talking about doing it, now I'm going to do it! A headstand a day sounds good, I will hold it as long as I can. I did miss yesterday but I didn't know what my goals were yesterday so I won't count it against me. Today I will see what my base line is and work from there. I hope having more blood will help me think more clearly.

Goal #4: Win back a piece of my sanity by way of organizing the caves which my children call rooms.

Now that they are back in school, I can get in there without all the whining about "DON'T THROW THAT AWAY!" and such. I am tired of not being able to walk and yelling at them to put things back in places that aren't clearly marked and organized. I'm going to make it easier for them to understand where things go (especially the 5 year old) and get rid of the junk they don't play with or need. This will make me a less insane mother and I won't have to yell at them every night at bed time.

So that's it. All simple, fairly boring, and seemingly unrelated goals, but things I keep trying to do. No more try! DO!

-finished organizing shelves. Everything is now on a shelf in its place

-Didn't get much done in this aspect during this week. Mostly just nagged the boys to keep their room as I left it. it's still clean.

Week 3:

Did not get anything done in the girl's room. I was delayed by the mess in the garage. I HATE MICE.

You are really rocking the mud in your avatar. Nice shoes.

Good luck with the Whole30. You have our support. Also, great idea getting the blood flow to the head. It sounds silly, but I really think frequent inversion helps the mental processes.

I'm looking forward to your posts.

Thanks! I was worried they might stain after all that mud, but i rinsed them well and they washed up almost like new! I had a great time!

Nice and clean! Good luck with the last goal - I know how tough that is to get your kids to understand where things belong!

Thank you! I really hope they get it, too. I need to implement a system and some chore lists, too, to keep them on top of it without my having to use up all of my energy and patience :P

Afternoon update: No problems with the food. We have been eating so much whole30 style in "practice" that it's not a big deal for me right now. Had an egg with some leftover chocolate chili, olives, avacado and a couple mini peppers for breakfast. Lunch was 2 organic/pasture raised hotdogs (ingredients: Beef, spices!) alnog with 3 figs, some grapes and a yummy salad with red peppers and tomatoes from my deck containers.

I already did my pushups for today! 5 sets: 18, 22, 16, 16, 28

They went well. I needed to do 25 for the last set, and was able to squeeze out 3 more.

Also did my first headstand. I'm doing it tripod style because I'm not strong enough to get up from forearm supported. I got 22 seconds! Not bad for my first try.

Have also been organizing in the boys' room this afternoon. Just about to get back at it.

Girl,

I just lurve you to bits!!! and organization for kids will do wonders for your sanity!

I was trying to upload a pic of the shelves I got for the lil ones room- but alas, my work comp is being difficult!

Awwww<3

It feels like they have so much stuff! I pitched some things, but they really do play with most of it! It's just that I want them to not play with it ALL AT THE SAME TIME. Plus we need to lose some of those damned giant stuffed animals people think is a great idea to give you when you have kids....

Deary Diary,

It was a good day! I got a lot done in the boys' room.

Food has been fine. I haven't really gotten any cravings yet. I think it helps that I've been eating Whole30 style on many days. We'll see how it goes after a week or 2. Breakfast was eggs and half an avocado and some peppers. Lunch was leftover chicken, grapes, roasted beets. Dinner was an tuna steak braised with garlic and olive oil, roasted curry cauliflower and a couple mini tomatoes. Plus a handful of grapes. Yum!

I did an Angry birds style work out since I did not make it to the gym. Jumping Jacks to warm up, 75 squats total, 15 close in pushups done in sets of 5 (still taking it easy on that shoulder, that type of pushups has agitated the shoulder in the past), 3 one-minute planks, and I also did my headstand---twice! The first was 33 seconds. The 2nd was 44 seconds!!! Good progress there.

Over all, I'm feeling a bit better in the head today. It took a bit to wind up, but this evening I don't feel like such a failure.

Tomorrow is Day 2 of pushups. Bring it!

Maybe I'll get brave enough to video my headstand (HAH!)

Sincerely,

Koo

Dear Diary,

Feel the burn! It's been an active 2 days.

Yesterday, I did my 2nd day of pushups of the week, 5 sets: 20, 25, 20, 20, 28

That last set was BRUTAL. I almost didn't get through it. I will be repeating that day. I don't like to go on if they are THAT hard. It probably did not help that I had also done a bunch of burpees previous to that. That's right, the burpee challenge began. Yesterday I did 62 burpees (all but 12 were with jump and pushup--the last 12, if I tried to go down, I would have face-planted). My headstand yesterday was 53 seconds! It's getting easier but the top of my head is still a little tender. I also did a Turbokick class last night. It was a new round, and after all those burpees, my legs were about to die by the end of TK. They almost gave out on the stairs when I got home.

Today thus far I have done 30 burpees (may do another set or 2 yet tonight). My shoulder was a little agitated after all of yesterday's activity, so I'm trying to take it easy on it. My headstand tonight was 58 seconds! Love this kind of muscle sore, though. I haven't had enough of it lately.

Food is still going great. I have had to stop myself several times from licking my fingers after getting the kids yogurt or something non whole30! But I am catching it, which is great. I think having done so many full paleo days now, I kind of built up to this. The Whole30 isn't such a drastic change for me now. 5 days and no major cravings yet. We'll see how it goes when hormones come a calling.

I didn't really get much done on the sanity goal today. However I've made good progress this week, so I'm not too concerned yet. I've just been on the boys to make them KEEP the room where I left it and put ALL THE THINGS and pieces away.

Tonight, Adam is working pretty much all night :( I hate going to bed by myself. Every stinking noise in the house freaks me out. It usually keeps me up WAY too late. Boo for stupid server migrations or whatever the hell they are migrating tonight.

Time to do some more burpees.

Yours Burpeely,

Koo

Turbokick this morning almost kicked MY butt. Legs did not like the legs section .

Then I came home and did a bunch of headstands! I think I did 5 or so. The longest was about 1m 8 seconds or so!

I even made a video, head standing with my son (who cheats, btw--but I didn't realize it until he lifted his hands off the floor lol)

Do an extra one today to make up for it and don't worry. It didn't affect your awesome one jot. You're awesome.

Thanks!! I didn't do an extra yesterday, but I will today.

Yesterday was a pretty good day. I did do a headstand, but I didn't time it. It is getting much easier to get up there! For kicks, I tried to do a forearm headstand--couldn't even get up. Guess I have a lot more work to do :)

Food was excellent yesterday. Still clean, though I was craving bread crazy like last night when I was having my spicy soup. It's day 10 of whole30.

I Didn't do a lot of exercise yesterday. It was a pretty busy day, plus I was still really sore from Monday.

As for today, I finally did the first day of pushups for the week this morning! 23, 28, 23, 23, 35 !! I'm amazed I got the 35. After each 10, I paused at the top and took 2 breaths before I pushed on. That really helped me get a few more in. My rest wasn't as long as I thought I would need, either, before the last set. It was probably 2-3 mins at most.

For breakfast this morning, I got brave and used the veggies I had....So i chopped up some leek and some jalepeno pepper and saute'd them up, then threw in the last of my spinach and the last few tiny tomatoes. Then I threw eggs on top and made a scramble. It was actually really good! I'm getting more and more brave. i have never just chopped up jalepeno to eat in my eggs before. It's usually in soups and stuff.

Going to try to get to gym tonight and put in some sprints for the mini challenge.

But first I need to get some things done.

I've been known to transition between a regular headstand and a forearm headstand while I was up to just relieve some arm fatigue. Maybe doing this would help you get used to the position on your forearms.

Congrats on day 10 of Whole30. I would love to get that a try but need to get the wife on board first.

And great work on the headstand and pushups.

Hey Muscles! are you seeing more of Adam at home these days?

Nice work.

Somewhat. He keeps getting called in the evenings, though, so ends up downstairs trying to fix stuff. >:[

Thanks! My hubby started seeing my results and then I had him read It Starts With Food. After that, he was sold. That book does such a good job explaining things.

I think my arms are going to fall off.

I missed my 3rd day of pushups last week, so started back in today. I did 28, 35 (barely made it through this set), 25, 22, 35. The last set was killer!! I took 2-5 mins rest between. This was SO hard .My arms feel like they are about to fall off.

Meanwhile, I'm smashing the food goal. I made my own paleo mayo 2 nights ago. BEST.MAYO.EVER. It is so good I dipped my sweet potatoes in it. Yum! Tonight's fare is salmon and some roasted veggies. I will update on my headstand later. I'm going to let my arms rest a bit before I attempt that. Headstands are getting much easier, though! I don't even have to stop and rest my knees on my elbows anymore. I just go up!

Meanwhile, I didn't get much done in the girl's room last week. I did, however, get a LOT done in the house this weekend and I pronounce my house company clean. Also, I did a LOT of laundry over the past few days. I'm almost completely caught up! Woo hoo!

Now it's time to go find some lunch.
