Rangers,

We've got a lot of work to do. Specifically, SPRINTING!

Get your running shoes (or vibrams, or bare feet) prepared! Go out and DO IT.

See info here:

http://www.nerdfitness.com/community/showthread.php?18967-FALL-FRENZY-Battle-Round-One!

p.s. Tell your ranger friends -- if you don't see someone participating, maybe they haven't seen this, so egg them on!

So I did a 10k fartlek run this morning, which was 90s of 8:30-9:00/mi pace, then 30s of 6:00/mi pace (an all-out sprint for me). Do I count the entire 10k? or do I try to estimate the distance I was actually sprinting?

Is Spezzy pyschic and knew it was my spirnt day today ?

For tonight I'm going have to estimate how far I travel during my sprint intervals - got no way of measuring while I do it.

I'll try and do some more sprints at the gym tomorrow too.

Alright, folks, I did some math (egads!) because I was astonished that we could get 3rd seed after all the amazing work you guys did on burpees. I refused to believe.

<--- disbelieving face

What killed us is that Rangers have a whopping 160 challenge participants. That's the second largest guild after the Adventurers (who, bless their hearts, have to deal with 249 and attrition). We have almost double the number of Assassins who are next largest at 84.

At the same time, we have 68 Ranger threads that have not been updated since last Saturday, which means they likely (though it's by no means a certain measure) did not log burpees for the challenge (or at least didn't cheer about it in their challenge threads). We have more inactive members than four other guilds have on their entire rosters. If you take those 68 "inactive" Rangers out of the equation, we would have pwnd the burpee challenge so hard the other guilds would've crapped rubber nickels. As in, we would've averaged 128 burpees per Ranger. I just crapped rubber nickels myself as I typed that. Do you see how freaking l33t we are?!?

What this means:

The way I see it, if we want to rip this tournament up (and we do, ohhhh sweet jeebus we do), then we have two options:

(1) Everyone start on page 6 of the forum and start posting reminders to everyone who hasn't updated in the past three or four days. Encourage them to represent! Or

.

(2) The remaining 100 of us display our true Beast Mode by doing the work of 1.5 people to make up for the inactive ones. When you think you can't do any more, take a break, watch some Who's the Boss reruns, and then come back and do half again what you've already accomplished.

Hopefully we can actually get a combination of the two, blast past everyone in the rest of this tourney, and be renamed the Power Rangers.

Hmmm.... sprints are off my training plan right now. I might be able to sneak some in on the run this weekend but I have to go the whole distance and I'm shooting for a decent time. Trainer would be mighty unhappy with me doing sprints right now.... Rangers might need to help a girl out here.

I AM going the distance

'Cause all I wanna do is go the distance. Nobody's ever gone the distance with Creed, and if I can go that distance, you see, and that bell rings and I'm still standin', I'm gonna know for the first time in my life, see, that I weren't just another bum from the neighborhood.

Show your trainer how interval training increase both aerobic and anaerobic maxes while steady running only works your aerobic maxes. Direct him to Tabata training or just HIIT info! :encouragement:

Twilson over in the Assassin's guild did something really cool and volunteered to do extra burpees for his injured guildies. So...(I'm probably going to regret this since it's Balls-to-the-Wall Cline)...how many meters of sprints do you estimate you could've gotten in for this challenge? I'll do mine plus yours.

Seriously, I had other priorities last challenge and couldn't do many burpees, but this weekend will be sprint-a-palooza-fest time. Any NYC Rangers want to meet up at the Chelsea track and get some sprints in?

awesome. i would try estimating the distance you were sprinting, to be fair.

I posted in the announcement thread about this challenge. I see Spezzy saying that entire distances count if you are doing interval training...that doesn't seem fair to me though. Can I count the distance I walk after a sprint to recover and get back to starting point? Cuz that more than doubles my distance. I don't know...maybe I'm overthinking this...but it seems odd to me that an entire 5k would count if you do 1 min. sprints and 2 min. jogs.

Well Spezzy settled it. Intervals count entire distance. Period. So even though I disagree and think that kinda cheats the system, I will just sprint twice as much to make up the difference! QUAKE WITH FEAR adventurers!! I am coming for ya!!

I did a few sprints up and down a hill this morning by pure chance (does hill add extra credit? ;) ). I'll estimate that and log it a bit later. I will definitely do some sprints tomorrow morning as it lines up with my planned work out anyway. This weekend I'm out of town and doing amusement park stuff with the family... but whatever I got left at the end of the day I'll throw at some sprints.

The rules are mucky on this challenge, so when in doubt, count it, but attempt to play fair.

I sprinted a mile (1600m) this morning. It wasn't with intervals, but it was most certainly a sprint as I never slowed down to a jogging pace, so I'm counting it.

I'm doing at least five 200m sprints Friday morning and two 2 mile fartleks this weekend. That's 9000 meters, but I'll find a way to make it to 10k!
