JediNickD
Alright, folks, I did some math (egads!) because I was astonished that we could get 3rd seed after all the amazing work you guys did on burpees. I refused to believe.<--- disbelieving faceWhat killed us is that Rangers have a whopping 160 challenge participants. That's the second largest guild after the Adventurers (who, bless their hearts, have to deal with 249 and attrition). We have almost double the number of Assassins who are next largest at 84.At the same time, we have 68 Ranger threads that have not been updated since last Saturday, which means they likely (though it's by no means a certain measure) did not log burpees for the challenge (or at least didn't cheer about it in their challenge threads). We have more inactive members than four other guilds have on their entire rosters. If you take those 68 "inactive" Rangers out of the equation, we would have pwnd the burpee challenge so hard the other guilds would've crapped rubber nickels. As in, we would've averaged 128 burpees per Ranger. I just crapped rubber nickels myself as I typed that. Do you see how freaking l33t we are?!?What this means:The way I see it, if we want to rip this tournament up (and we do, ohhhh sweet jeebus we do), then we have two options:(1) Everyone start on page 6 of the forum and start posting reminders to everyone who hasn't updated in the past three or four days. Encourage them to represent! Or .(2) The remaining 100 of us display our true Beast Mode by doing the work of 1.5 people to make up for the inactive ones. When you think you can't do any more, take a break, watch some Who's the Boss reruns, and then come back and do half again what you've already accomplished.Hopefully we can actually get a combination of the two, blast past everyone in the rest of this tourney, and be renamed the Power Rangers.Dibs on red.Agreed. Our guild is huge with many inactives and a lot of first timers this challenge. But it is huge because we are awesome! And we WILL remind those Adventurers on Sunday when they check out our totals and have no answer for the thrashing they received.I wish I had more time to post. I'd rile up the inactives and ensure the new Rangers know about the minis and participate. Instead, I'll just have to run further than I anticipated.Dibs on green. Samunwal
I'm afraid I'm going to be a bit of an anchor on this one as real sprints would blow my rehabbing bionic hip out and I'd be on my ass for a couple of weeks. I'll do what I can on the elliptical, even though Spezzy said she's only counting 50% of the distance.CD- while figuring what we would have done without our inactives, did you see that if all of the monks but Flourless slept in this weekend and did 0 burpees, with his 2048 they would have still averaged 81.92? Ah well, FIDO. Let's just take this one. CyningaDena
Well Spezzy settled it. Intervals count entire distance. Period. So even though I disagree and think that kinda cheats the system, I will just sprint twice as much to make up the difference! QUAKE WITH FEAR adventurers!! I am coming for ya!!Maybe I'm grossly (and unfairly) underestimating the Adventurers guild, but it does seem a bit off-kilter when we've got folks here who can sprint interval a 10K. For folks like me who are just beginning sprints and have waaaay shorter time components (10 second sprints and 50 second jogs), it might make more sense to count entire distance because (a) it's not that much different, and ( how the heck would I calculate distance for a 10 second sprint without busting out my tape measure? As I graduate to the track, though, and start doing ladders, I think I'd switch it up and only count actual sprint distance. It would be a snap to measure on the track, and rest distance would start to make a significant difference. notcreative
I was pretty sick for the last challenge, so I only contributed 45 burpees (Which felt like a lot to me, but the most I had ever done at once was 10). I don't think I'll be contributing much in the way of sprinting this time, because I have a 10K on Saturday and I want to save my legs for that. And the following week I am going to be out of the country. I promise I will contribute something during one of these challenges!! udelkitty
Mmm, sprints! I love working them into workouts, and doing sprint work has improved my 5k times over the past year. I am a terribly lazy sprinter though, and the last time a friend had me do 200m sprints I wanted to stab myself. My god, those were easier to do in high school!I'll try my best! I had plans to do some nice running or interval work today, but my stomach has been wonky all afternoon and I'm not sure I have it in me :/ Boh hard, or Boh home. Link to comment
dajve
The rules are mucky on this challenge, so when in doubt, count it, but attempt to play fair.I sprinted a mile (1600m) this morning. It wasn't with intervals, but it was most certainly a sprint as I never slowed down to a jogging pace, so I'm counting it. I'm doing at least five 200m sprints Friday morning and two 2 mile fartleks this weekend. That's 9000 meters, but I'll find a way to make it to 10k!Yeah, it is seeming a little confusing. In an effort to be fair, while sticking to Spezzy's stated rule, I'm going to count the complete portion of a run where I'm running intervals / fartleks (some days I do half fartleks, half threshold running, for example) and not count runs where my heart rate is constant, even if the pace / heart rate itself means it would be classed a full threshold workout.I don't want to seem like I'm cheating either side, so does that sound fair to others on here? Rebel Pilot Gar
Would fencing footwork sprints count? We did a few of those, and some suicides, today at practice. tenaciousglee
I ran 5km this morning, 0.25km sprint, 0.75km jog. I recommend sprinting for time rather than distance, though. I thought this would be a good way to get an even 5000 meters, but I prefer to sprint for 30 seconds and then rest for 1:30 or something like that. The more tired I got, the longer it took me to jog the 0.75 km...But I got my 5k in! I don't think I'll have another chance this weekend for interval training, but I am planning to play basketball. I'm wondering if there's a way to count that since I'll be sprinting up and down the court.
