Well, I suppose I should go over where I'm starting from:

  • 5'9" and 206 pounds as of the other day
  • was disabled for 12 years so my stamina is terrible
  • like to dance and garden
  • on paleo diet, have lost 5 pounds so far
  • my work involves sitting at a computer all day
  • turned 50 in August
  • really like the idea of leveling up
  • most of my family (except my daughter) isn't very active (my husband is very overweight) and not super supportive

Blah blah blah, right?

Since I came here in the middle of the challenge thing I'm going to do my own challenge:

  1. dance to something on youtube 4 days a week
  2. go walking the other 3 days
  3. go outside every day and garden
  4. cut out caffeine and alcohol to an occasional thing

Thanks for the suggestions!

I was drinking coffee every day and alcohol too ... this past weekend I got myself sick on both and decided to only drink either rarely if at all, when I feel up to it again. I don't even want to think about drinking either one right now.

ETA the update: got a good bit done in the front garden (for me) and danced to one song (6 minutes) before I got tired.

Today I dug up the sweet potatoes in the front yard (a freeze is coming so it wasn't optional) -- after that I was pretty tired and didn't dance or go walking. Boo.

No coffee or alcohol today ... what I'm going to do is reserve those for special occasions or weekends -- not more than once or twice a week. I'm getting really bad heartburn from both of them (on a trial of some meds just to make sure it's not a stomach infection/prelude to an ulcer) and I'm not going to drink either at all until it goes away.

I think I'll log my diet too.

One thing I've had trouble with is overeating, mostly taking seconds when I don't need it.

Let's see ...

Breakfast: fried cotto salami, decaf tea, apple, chunk of cheese (over the course of several hours)

Lunch: more tea, an orange

Dinner: pork roast, baked sweet potatoes, can of Sprite for dessert

Did a lot of walking today, had to bring in the plants because a freeze is coming, also went grocery shopping with my daughter.

Haven't been myself the last few days, but today I got some gardening done. I wasn't out there long but I feel really worn out.

Got a lot done as far as work goes; got nothing done as far as exercise goes. Bleh.

Still eating right and doing my calisthenics in the am, took another photo. I'm doing a series to chart my progress or lack thereof.

I'll keep that in mind.

Been out walking the last two days -- day before yesterday my ankle was really sore but yesterday I walked farther (about 1/2 mile) and felt much better. Had some computer problems so I couldn't post until now. :)

Very happy today!

Got some gardening done and doing a lot better on the diet lately (no Sprite!).

Musing about my goals for the challenge. I want to start back on my abs exercises and get more hardline about the walking. Not sure about the life challenge ... I have some goals for my business website to get done by the end of the year, does that count?

Here are my goals so far: any suggestions appreciated.

Went walking today, went farther than I usually do.

Decided to read this thread from the beginning ... the heartburn issue is gone, which makes me very happy. Cutting out coffee has really helped. I must be allergic to it or something, because the same thing happened the last time I drank it a lot (which was back in college)

Challenge day 1:

Walking: 12 min

Ab exercises: check

Fruit: 4/5 servings so far

Creative: not done yet today, I think I might start a new knitting project :D

ETA: I started a shawl! This will be the first one I've completed, I tried one before and gave up on it, but this pattern seems easier.

Challenge day 2:

Walking: didn't get outside but I'm the IT person for the house and my son got a new computer ... in his room, downstairs. I've gone up and down the stairs at least 20 times just in the past hour. I'm counting that. (whew)

Abs: check

Fruit: 5/5

Life: finally figured out this pattern when my son's computer arrived. Going downstairs to work on it now, thought I'd record my stuff before I forget.

ETA: got a lot of knitting done while watching episodes of Bleak House. I really like this show. :D

Challenge day 3:

Today didn't go so well.

Walking: didn't happen. I'm not going to wait until the afternoon to walk anymore.

Abs: forgot

Fruit:4/5

Knitting: I made the mistake of drinking while knitting and messed up the shawl somehow. I forgot to put the safety line in so I have to start all over. And I had gotten 13 rows in. :(

Challenge day 4:

Today has been much better so far:

Walking: 15 min

Abs: done

Fruit: 5/5 (cutting them up in the morning helps a lot)

Life: I'm going to restart the knitting today and put the safety lines in this time (facepalm)

ETA: got up to 8 rows, with a safety at row 5. So it's going well. :D

Challenge day 5:

I did a major cleaning job at home so I skipped the walking and abs. I got tired out before totally finishing it as it was, but it was good enough for now.

Fruit: 2/5

Life: did my knitting! (while watching the Matrix with my kids :D )
