Not really an intro...more like a reboot.

Much like Bruce Wayne (in the movies), things went to pot. The past few months (like nine), I went from exercising regularly to completely shut up in my manor, peeking out like an agoraphobe at others while life passed me by. Girlfriend gone. Jobs changed. Publishing deadlines came and went. Weight came back on. Life just pretty much went to hell and never mind the handcart.

It's safe to say that I hit an all time low. Started smoking again and discovered the evil pleasures of starchy foods and all-night video game/Netflix sessions. I went swimming in the Gulf of Mexico recently and was almost kidnapped by a group of belugas on their way to their feeding grounds.

Whereas Batman had Bane to contend with, I had a reconnection with my ex. As in the movie, I was defeated catastrophically. Instead of a broken back, my injuries were decidedly more emotional. I was thrown into my own Pit.

My decision to live and rise came not from the discovery that my city was about to be completely annihilated, but from the sudden realization that I couldn't cross my legs without holding one up, and it subsequently going numb.

I am now ready to move forward. I am starting a bit more slowly that Bruce did, but I am starting. I discovered Gold Medal Bodies and am really into their method and have gotten myself a set of rings to start with. With dedication and an eye to the future, I will work towards that final leap to escape the Pit, and rise from the defeat that was keeping me in the dark: my own desire to be pitied.

Besides...she can't leave me AGAIN. ;)

From what I've observed (my own experience included) for a lot of us at NF the fitness thing is a result of overcoming something deeper, many of us have our pits.

Tanktimus: It's sort of related to the former. I'm actually from Texas originally, but the name comes from my father. Back in the day, before he married my mother, his CB handle was Lonestar. When he married, he changed it to Porky Pig and my mother became Petunia. Years later, after my first divorce, I needed a username for the chat rooms. "Lonestar" was taken, so it became "lonestar66" (which meant there were 66 OTHER lonestars out there).

The name followed me until I became active on a writer's site. After a year of being "lonestar66", and becoming a bit popular on the site, I changed it to "The Lonestar" so as to be more recognizable.

Sorry for the long, drawn-out origins story. I wish it were more exciting. ;)

Day One of the rise (yesterday):

Did my routine at the end of the day. I was fighting saying, "screw it" and just going home the entire time I was walking to the gym and getting dressed. Once I was in the gym, I was hoping that it would be empty as I would be using gymnast rings and had to hang them. I didn't want to be looked at like a fool. Mistake. After screwing around on the treadmill and generally being timid, it took me so long to get my routine done that I actually missed my bus home.

I think it serves as an illustration as what happens if you forget that you're a member of the rebellion: timidity causes you to miss the bus. Sometimes literally.

Today will be much smoother. I only have myself to impress.

Less of getting going, more of getting over the fear of public humiliation. I'm NOT a small man: I look like a vanilla ice-cream cone. Double-Scoop.

Yesterday just reminded me of the folly of thinking I know what other people are thinking. One of the guys who was in the gym actually was pretty cool afterwards. I felt like a fool, and for good reason.

Today will be much better.

Thanks for being there, tank. :)

That's what I do :) I struggle with the same thing. I'm having to teach myself that one, most people aren't forming opinions about me, or two are worried about my opinion of them and three, even if they have negative opinions of me it doesn't matter. Much easier to type than to put into action.

Hi Lonestar :) This is insanely true. Glad the girl is gone, it got you to be able to become a better you. I had to laugh at your timidity story (not laughing at you, just laughing because I saw me doing it). Hence, I became enamored with body weight exercises and treadmill cardio (yeah I know...boring as hell, but it works for me)

Anyways, I loved your re-intro and am glad you are here. Good luck with everything.
