Name: Viking, otherwise known as Meg

Brief overview of goals:

1) Lost weight. My longterm goal weight is 140. My short-term goal weight by the end of this challenge is 225. (I am 235 right now.)

2) Get my strength up. I started weight training during my last challenge in December, and I've fallen in love with it. Kettlebells really are a girl's best friend.

3) Catch up on my schoolwork. Between work and the holidays last month, my schoolwork has been very neglected. Have to bring myself back up to speed.

4) Writing. I have been working on my novel for two years now. I am halfway done. I want to finish my rough draft by March. (About 100,000 words to go).

5) Establish a habit of not over-eating. To do this, I am logging my calories at MyFitnessPal through an app on my phone, so I can keep better tabs of my caloric intake. (myfitnesspal.com/megviking, if you're curious) Also, cutting back on diet soda. I love me some Coke Zero. I'm trying to cut back to 2 a day.

Useful team info: I don't care who I work with, but it was really rewarding and encouraging last time to have other people to follow and post on. So squad me up!

Viking

Class: Warrior. I used to be a Monk, but having examined my goals more closely, I feel I fit better into this class.

Way of eating: Still

Ranger (barbarian!)

1. Primary Skill: Pistols - I need 10 each leg, I'm within 2" of getting 1 at parallel

2. Secondary: Post Daily on my Battle Log

3. Personal Development: Take the greyhound on the 3 practicum visits required to receive her Certified Therapy Animal Certification and her scarf. We have three months, technically, but I want to stay focused and get her working.

Paleo - 98% of the time. Damn you, ice cream! Damn you! And my protein powder is lactose free, whey based. Acceptable if you follow Paleo for Athletes by Cordain.

Any other piece of information you think would be useful for team creation:
An active squad would be wonderful - I'm hard core motivational and would like someone breathing down my neck as well. =)

Brief overview of goals:

Lean down (up?) -- would like to get back below 160lbs, hopefully without losing any muscle or strength

Cardio and Conditioning -- at least one day of HIIT a week, may shoot for a weekly burpees goal rather than try to designate one day like I did last challenge

Figure out my diet -- this is going to be a bit of a loose goal, but I am going to try to laser in on the right levels for my macronutrients to cut some fat without totally stalling on my strength training.

Make my apartment look like someone actually lives here -- I've been making progress in buying furniture and getting things set up but I still have a long way to go.

Class:

Going to move over to Ranger for this Challenge

If you follow a specific way of eating:

Ehhhhhhh, not really. I'd say I'm pseudo-paleo, but the list of exceptions I allow makes the distinction sort of pointless. Basically, I don't eat processed crap and try to cook all my own meals 90% of the time. Lots of protein and fat.

Any other piece of information you think would be useful for team creation:

Not that I can think of right now!

If you want to be part of a team or if you want to work alone:

Team all the way!

Brief overview of goals:

-C25k

-Don't skip my new cardio salsa class

-Make lunch at least 3 days a week

-Work on getting my next job

Class:

Druid (strong Scout subclass, may be switching to Scout)

If you follow a specific way of eating:

Calories In vs. Calories Out, moving toward a natural diet that includes healthy whole grains

Any other piece of information you think would be useful for team creation:

Very new to this, both the Rebellion and fitness in general. I'm not a member of a gym, and I don't currently do any strength training (if this goes well, that will hopefully be a part of a future challenge goal).

If you want to be part of a team or if you want to work alone:

I guess I'd like to be on a team, but I'm a little worried that I'll end up defunct (due to work and other business issues, not for lack of working towards my goals), so feel free to leave me off this go around if that works better.

Brief overview of goals:

- C25K

- Take the stairs at school quickly and ignore the elevator

- Cut out the Culver's (that grease-soaked burger is going to be the death of me)

- Finish (well, and start, but that's why this is called a challenge, right?) data collection for my master's thesis

Class:

Scout

If you follow a specific way of eating:

I eat whatever my wife cooks, and she tends to do a pretty good job of making it healthy, but without a real overarching plan.

Any other piece of information you think would be useful for team creation:

Minyla, whose post should be a bit above mine here, is my wife. I'm not sure if that means we should be on the same, or different teams...

If you want to be part of a team or if you want to work alone:

One squad member, reporting for duty.

20 full workouts in February (this is a stretch this month, reasons in challenge thread)

Cut out all soda

Brief overview of goals:

Start with outdoor running as soon as the snow clears

Go to the gym and get a baseline on lifts and make myself a lifting program

At least 4 workouts a week (lifting, running, yoga, gym classes) plus walk to work weekdays (2 mile round trip)

Go to the YWCA across from my work and see what they are about (that is an easy one, just have to do it)

Class:

Ranger

If you follow a specific way of eating:

Calorie count- food journal

Any other piece of information you think would be useful for team creation:

Swear I'm not a stalker...but mediavoire's goals look pretty close to mine, minus the paleo bit

I have six 5ks coming up in April (including an obstacle mud run), so I am gearing up for all of that. I would like to finish at least one in under 30 min. At the end of last fall I was at about 34 min. I am sure I have backtracked some.

I anticipate that I will be a little quiet at the beginning of this challenge because work is a little crazy.

Challenge Goals:

Overriding goal: get sub 200lbs. This means losing a hair over 10lbs, or more specifically, 2.5lbs per week. Totally achievable. Specific goals to reach this milestone:

Health/Fitness goals:

1) strength training 2 times per week

2) aerobic activity 2 times per week (running, cycling)

3) all out sprinting session 1 time per week (running or cycling)

4) complete compliance to the Primal diet lifestyle

Level Up goals:

1) finish the Primal Blueprint, start 'The Paleo Solution' by Robb Wolf

2) clean up and organize my office.

Class: Ranger

If you follow a specific way of eating:

Currently casual primal, meaning I make efforts to eat as close to Primal (Paleo + dairy) as I can, however I won't turn down grains if we go out, or if someone else cooks a meal for me. I do however plan on spending this challenge being as absolutely compliant as possible.

Any other piece of information you think would be useful for team creation:

Currently my strength training consists of bodyweight exercises only - primarily routines that Steve has put together either through the Rebel Guide, or just his youtube channel alone. I'm also a strong believer in Pavel's Grease the Groove principles.

If you want to be part of a team or if you want to work alone:

I'd be quite happy to be on a squad again, but Spezzy already knows this. :)

Brief overview of goals:

  • Learn to eat slower. I have a bad habit of shoveling down food, which I'm worried will come back to haunt me when I'm older. My father, who does it too, had to have intestinal surgery when I was a child.
  • "Perfect" the four kata I memorized during the last challenge. (Nothing can ever be truly perfected.)
  • Recently went to a career fair and got a number of leads. I want to have applied and followed-up to all by the end of the month.

Class:

Monk

Eating:

No strict diet, though I follow a rather predictable set of meals that work for me and control my portions.

Team creation:

I'm fine with any team! I have experience going from being completely unfit and overweight to very fit, so I can help others and be a cheerleader!

Part of a team?

Sure!

Brief overview of goals:

1. Stronger: combination of barbell and bodyweight strength training workouts

2. Calmer: learn a qigong routine to a point where I don't need a video to follow

3. Efficient diet: get better at preparation/planning ahead for cooking

4. Writing: just started a blog, so I want to focus on filling it with content

Class:

Ranger

If you follow a specific way of eating:

Mostly paleo/primal. Mostly...

Any other piece of information you think would be useful for team creation:

None that spring to mind

If you want to be part of a team or if you want to work alone:

Name:

Justicar, because 'Will' is just so dull

Brief overview of goals:

The Goal is Multi-Classing, even if we don't have rules for it yet.

Bard - Improve on my terrible dedication to mandolin practice from last month and record a better video this time around, spend at least one hour a week on one of my Rosetta Stone lessons.

Ranger - Running, Push-Ups, Sit-Ups. It's what I need for the Guard, but never feels like enough of a workout. I'm going to go back through the New Rules of Lifting and dive into that.

Monk - Krav Maga lessons. I've been slacking on these, too. Generally speaking, I'm getting rusty all around; I've got no confidence in my knife defense, especially.

Class:

For this, Ranger

Diet:

I love cooking. The wife has an egg intolerance and garlic and almond allergies, so I have to be careful. On the other hand, I eat like a pregnant garbage disposal. I just need to eat even more healthy for it to do more for my body than it does.

Any other piece of information you think would be useful for team creation:

I started strong but died off last month, following an inexplicable and uncharacteristic bout of self-depreciation, minus the humor. I want to push myself harder. And then harder. And then harder.

If you want to be part of a team or if you want to work alone:

I don't think I represented the Squad very well last month; I really never heard anything from any of them, so I was probably that member nobody likes to be reminded is there. I'd like to give it another go, though.

1. Keep eating right

2. Keep exercising

3. Work on keeping up my New Years resolutions now that I've made plans

4. Start working on a personal budget - the household budget is one thing, I need to save my allowance for fun stuff. I suck at that - I need to do better

Class:

Jedi Knight! (ok, fine, Ranger)

If you follow a specific way of eating:

My total calories each day are less than 2200. I always infuse protein immediately following my workout. I TRY to design my weekday breakfast and lunch as follows:

• No MORE than 1/3 of my calories come from as low glycemic carbs as I can get (die sugar! Go Fiber!)

• No LESS than 1/3 of my calories from protein (preferably complete proteins)

• the rest in fats of 30% Omega-3's and 60% Omega-6's

• Drink Minimum of 1 gallon of water per day

Obviously, I do not always hit these guidlines; that's OK, it's a target to aim at.

Any other piece of information you think would be useful for team creation:

I need a starship.

Friend me (kahn265) on MyFitnessPal.com and RunKeeper.com

If you want to be part of a team or if you want to work alone:

It doesn't matter - However, its taking a LOT of energy and focus for me to eat right. I'm not thinking I'm great at much else at this time. Don't put me in charge.

Updates are posted in my Jedi Trials Thread
