Dúnedain Team!

The Dúnedain are a race of men/women descended from the Númenóreans. Closest allies of the Elves and Valar, the island of Númenór was considered the greatest realm of man and as a gift to the rangers of the north many of them (Aragorn included) were gifted with exceptionally long life!

 

*Nevermind that whole fall of Númenór concept where they stopped serving Eru Illuvator and then the island sank into the sea. :-P

 

Elves, rangers, men, women, hobbits and all NF rebels are welcome to join! Hopefully you join because you love Tolkien as well!

 

I'm not sure if there is anything further I need to add here but note that we're here to help keep each other in check and support people on any fitness struggles they may have.

I totally dig the Numenorean thing. I saw this team on the list and I was like umm yes please! Adds yet another layer to this giant role play tat we have going on.

Hi!  I do love Tolkien.  I even studied Quenya for six months at one stage (and was one of the few who were disappointed that there was not more Quenya in the movies).  I've also added this thread to my sig.

 

I'm off to check out the challenges the team has set themselves :)

Is it OK to join more than one accountability group? I think this is the group for me -- I am a Dúnadan Ranger, after all. ;)

I know there are other Rebels in multiple groups. And there's nothing wrong with a little extra accountability!

As a half-orc, I feel that the Dúnadans probably wouldn't have been excited about having me around.  But you can't change your parentage and I'm working on fitting into Human society.

So group, what kinds of things do you need to be kept accountable on?  I've read through all your challenges, but I figured this thread might be a good place for the whole group to encourage each other.  

 

The two goals I'll need to be accountable for are my meal planning and data compilation/manipulation, which kind of go hand-in-hand.  The data just takes time to get all together and then actually interpret it to figure out my macro splits for meal planning.

 

Any recommendations on spreadsheets or apps for that?  I already use MyFitnessPal to track my weight and food, but I want to compare my food intake with my weight change going back to February 2012.

Yep. He's my favorite character. I had no idea what to use for a NF handle, but we'd just completed our yearly watching of the LotR movies so I was in that mindset. :P 

 

As far as things to be accountable for, I need to be kept accountable on my running goal. It's only two times a week but I am just not excited about running. I met my goal last week and went running once already this week, but I was supposed to go yesterday and took an impromptu rest day instead. :( I will go Friday (my originally planned rest day) to make up for it, but I can see myself as most likely to not meet my goals in that area. The bummer is that it's great cardio and a good workout. I even enjoy it once I get into the swing of things, by mile 3 or 4. Any suggestions to make running more fun?

Any suggestions to make running more fun?

 

My personal preference is to have a great playlist to run to.  A

can keep me going when I want to quit.  I also enjoyed intervals when I tried them this summer.  Instead of a boring steady (slowly declining) pace, I would jog for a minute and sprint for 30 seconds, or jog for 2 min and sprint for 1.

 

Steve had a good suggestion in this Gamify Your Life post: Pick a target in the distance and go all out until you get past it, then slow down and look for the next target.  Same concept as intervals, but without the timing component.

 

I've also seen several people on the forums who use the Zombies, Run! app, but I haven't tried it myself.

Ooh, I like the running to random targets idea. It's pretty cold here now, so I'm not running outside, but that's a fun idea for spring/summer. I definitely want to try the Zombies, Run! app. I already have a few techno songs on my run playlist that are Zombie-ish ... lots of distortion and bangs, set to a fast beat, of course. There's an O Fortuna mix that's particularly good.
