I started "The Artist's Way" workbook today.  that entails writing three pages of random jumble every morning (also called the Morning Pages -- which I already loathe), and doing the homework assignments.

first assignement is to choose some Affirmations.  mine is as follows: I am a Writer.  my Mission in life is Create, to bring more life and wonder into thisworld than currently exists.

(this is my abbreviate Personal Manifesto.)

second assignment is to write about the three old enemies of my creative self-worth, and the third to visually vilify them.  the only issue with that I am my enemy.  all of my friends and family are very supportive and enccouraging.  my Depression and self-doubt is what keeps me from enhancing and embracing my skill.  D:

so I'm off to work on these assignements, as well as those that follow.

what's your writing Goal?

Hi there!

Your "creative enemies" prompt is interesting. I'm working through The 90 Day Novel and his process is a little different -- the prompt was basically to identify all the things that you are afraid of, all the reasons you "can't" write your story, and then to realize that those are basically the same fears your characters have.

That was really eye-opening for me, personally.

But I may have to pick up a copy of The Artist's Way, too -- the reviews are awfully interesting! Do you like it so far, other than the morning doodles?

I don't technically have a writing goal this time, but I do have a blog-related goal, and the main duty of a blog is to keep on posting. Twice a week, Mondays and Thursdays, I will be adding a new post. At the moment, this is fun and inspiration is plentiful - but I expect there will be times my will is sapped or that I simply get too damned busy. Help to keep me focused, please!

I do enjoy it so far.  I think it's going to help me out as I get deeper in to the course.

that's how it's set up: as a twelve-week course.  having only just begun, I can't say too much on it.

I struggled with the MP (Morning Pages) because you have free-write three pages.  like, literally write -- as in hand-written.  I hadn't done that in ages, my hand was hurting something fierce, lol.  it really sucked.

and I'll have to look into "The 90-Day Novel", thanks.  that makes me think of NaNoWriMo.  are you familiar with it?

just know that guess-posts are always a good backup plan, lol.

I have heard of and followed NaNoWriMo, but never really participated. Always chicken out at the last minute. Also I jealously guard what I am working on and always thought the idea of sharing with strangers over coffee sounded really daunting.

BUUUT all of those things are probably reasons why I *should* do it. Maybe this year.

I think I would like this Artist's way book because I hand-write almost everything. But yes, it's amazing how strenuous it can be if you haven't done much of it in a while! Those are strange hand-muscles. Kinda like if you ever try making pottery on a wheel, or kneading bread.

Artinum: is this a new blog, or one you had already been working on before the challenge? Just curious.

My writing isn't towards my blog as much as it for self realization. I want to get to the bottom of my eating habits. So I'm writing about what tastes good to me and what doesn't. I tend to eat the food i hate because it's already made.

Hey all!!  Thanks for getting this started, James!

My goal is just to write for 15 minutes a day.  It was tough starting today because I felt rusty, since I hadn't written in a long time, but I used a writing prompt from writing excuses (and if you've never checked out that podcast you definately should), and got a start.  Eventually I hope to work on one of my "in progress" projects, but for now I'll take what I can get :)

James, as for you being your enemy, I disagree.  Some of your habits may be your enemies, or some of your behaviours, or whatever, but YOU are not the problem. ;)  Let's do this thing!

1000 words per day, for the entire six weeks.  I'm actually close for today already! :D

ooh, go you!  I struggled with the 1,667 words per day as required by NaNoWriMo.  so I know how tough it is.  but we're all here for you!

writing is writing is writing is awesome.  :D

and I feel you on eating food you hate.  I naturally have a "seefood" diet -- I see food I eat it; I don't see food, I don't eat.

did my Morning Pages today.  it's though.  I've got to find some hand exercises to work those muscles back up, lol.  but I'm serious.  it's pathetic how much it hurts to write a mere three pages.  D:  weak hands are weak.

meanwhile, today's homework: take one of my three enemies (tiem, self-doubt, and my Depression), and create a horror story about it.  after that, it's focusing on my inspirations and support network.  I got this...

James, I have to agree with Hiraedd. You are not your enemy, and fighting yourself is not the solution. Fighting your negativity, hell yeah. But not yourself! You need to take the James you don't like and change bits here and there until she becomes the James you do like - and that won't happen until you love her.

You've inspired me to write a blog post on facing one's demons. I'll add it to my list!

So far... I wrote about McDonalds. It was the "best" tasting meal I had yesterday which means... What the hell was in the other stuff?

Probably horse. :)

Today I have mainly been writing emails. But I also redrafted and uploaded my next blog post ready for Thursday.

LOL.

I did a phase outline for the story idea I started yesterday, and I think it's shaping up to be a short story.  Should be able to start writing it tomorrow, as long as my main character gets named first.  Tell me, what is a name you might give a pet that you found "thrown away" or lost or left behind by someone else?

I have heard of and followed NaNoWriMo, but never really participated. Always chicken out at the last minute. Also I jealously guard what I am working on and always thought the idea of sharing with strangers over coffee sounded really daunting.

I have done NaNo three times (November NaNo twice and Camp NaNo once), and I have never shared anything with anyone, online or over coffee.  It's mostly more an accountability forum of other writers.  You are welcome to put a title and synopsis of your work on the site or not.  And the verification of your story at the end?  They get you to scramble it first: you're not uploading your story to them.  Just some things I thought it might be helpful to know :)

for me, it would depend on the characteristics of the creature. what kind of a pet is it?

what's your writing Goal?

Good for you! I did that workbook in college at one point when I was studying creating original in the Experimental Theater Wing at NYU. It was awesome. When times get tough, I return to writing my pages of nonsense and usually some pretty crazy, unexpected, and insightful stuff bubbles up to the surface. Sometimes good seeds for new stories to tell and sometimes just insights into what's going on in my head that come out for the first time.

My writing goal for this challenge is to write two new blog posts a week! My blog is called Project Reroll and it's a journal of my whole weightloss experience that started 8 months and 90 lbs ago. I kept the journal privately at first but recently was asked by a lot of friends who were following my progress if I would share it online. So, I decided to start by sharing one backlogged entry a day and I have about sixty in total. Of course I'm still keeping my journal currently, but I really like being able to post every day and I know that will be unrealistic once the entries catch up to current time, so to keep me in the habit of writing/reflecting on my progress regularly, I need to keep writing 2 articles a week even if they don't get published till the old ones are all out.

We have the same goal! I'll definitely check into your blog and keep track of how you're doing!

My writing isn't towards my blog as much as it for self realization. I want to get to the bottom of my eating habits. So I'm writing about what tastes good to me and what doesn't. I tend to eat the food i hate because it's already made.

That's really important. A lot of times, till the "why" is addressed, it's hard to sustain any progress you make. At least that's been my experience. :) I'd be interested to learn more about what you discover!

Hi everyone! I'd love to join this accountibilibuddy group!

I write historical fiction novels and I'm branching out into short stories to try and get published in a lit magazine or two. I finished the first draft of my newest novel as my life goal last challenge, and set it aside for a month before I start on revisions. I'll be starting those revisions mid-challenge this time (writing goal 1), and in the meantime I'm reading some books for research/craft (writing goal 2). My third writing goal is to make sure I go to my writing critique group each Sunday, even if I'm out of town (Skype in). Yes, I have fitness goals, too, just a lot of stuff to accomplish on the writing side. ;)

Some of you have mentioned NaNoWriMo, which I love! I've participated in that for the last 6 years, and it's such a great way to get draft pages down.

Good luck on the challenge, and have fun!

thanks for pointing me here too!

i have a side goal in my challenge to write my screen play. i'm also writing a creative non-fiction novel, and taking a songwriting class that starts tomorrow.

i hope to do some writing, no matter how small each day. yesterday i wrote a few pages for the novel, and today i wrote down some random lyrics.  hopefully i'll be able to keep up.
